My day got better...
The phone went...why wasn't I at my nephew's 18th birthday party?
Er..because I honestly believed the party was tomorrow...:o
So...flew out, stopping only to buy a very non-MSE bottle of I-owe-you-an-apology champagne. Arrived a deeply [STRIKE]impolite[/STRIKE] fashionable two hours late, to discover that champagne really can buy me out of any bother with my sister.
And, after a really lovely afternoon with family, I'm just home.
I guess the rest of the tiles will have to wait.:rotfl:
jps-I am also deeply impressed with your chainsaw skills. It isn't a male/female thing for me...more that I know my mind tends to wander when my hands are busy  So I have a little alligator chainsaw...much harder to lop off a limb that way...
I agree about the thanking-I try to thank all posts as a way of acknowledging I've read them, especially as I'm not that good at responding via the threads. But it's very frustrating when the thanks go missing, and deeply embarrassing when only one does! But we all do it our own way, and that's fine.:)import this0 -

Wow laurel I take my hat of to you for getting to the party, getting off the hook and having a good time!
Don't be too impressed, I only have a little Bosch thingy. But I do feel like a proper grown up when I use it! I need to prepare a log store and lay up a lot of the leylandii for the fire this winter.
I have a very small open fire in both living room and bedroom, and use a little chiminea in them because I don't have the money to have proper firegrates put in at the moment. It works fine and the leylandii are just the right size.
I managed portion control fairly well again but earlier I made some bread and had three slices while it was warm, with butterOh well. I feel a bit hormonal today, so I'm going to have some rice pudding as comfort food

Ah, you don't want to to do that, jps - grow up, I mean. I'm going to do my very best not to, and I'm 60 (sadly). As DD2 once said, "I spent years wanting to be a grown-up, but now I've got there, I don't think I like it very much."The advantages of being a grown-up are much exaggerated.
Laurel, very impressive apology, and I'm glad you had a good time at the party!0 -
You're right bearcub - I'll just play at being grown up when I use the chainsaw
Off to bed for me now... night all, sleep tight.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

hello messies - just a quick one! Very warm here tonight, not sure if that's just me! Had my op on Wednesday, it went well but the results won't be known for a while. I might get a rough idea when I get the plaster cast off on Thursday.
No demessying at all, I'm not allowed to;) Well, I COULD do a bit now but don't tell the kids that!:D I'm not supposed to bend down and crouching is just tooo much effort!
Haven't really been able to catch up but Emm, LOVED the chalk story:T bearcub hope your DD and her bf can sort things out, seems such a shame that his own father can be such a bad influence!!:( Laurel, glad you enjoyed the party.
Night all xxx0 -
Hi All, off to bed but just checking in...POGGED on a HM curry, mega de-nettling -not just revenge, but for the survival of my raised beds (got 2 now!) & lavender planting this pm.
Cat, great to hear from you again, wondered where you`d got to. Forgot you`d mentioned an op. Glad it went ok, and now just you say "buggrit" to the de-messying, and milk it for as long as poss! xx
JPS & Bearcub - " I met a Grown-up once. I didn`t like him" Quote from an old archery catalogue, dunno where it actually originated!
Goodnight all, will catch up with the rest later - need to put this curry horizontal now!0 -
Just been woken up by helicopters ,police and ambulances. Dont know whats going on.
Im going o try going back to sleep.0 -
Morning messies...
Hope you are ok there snookey - I hate it when that happens.
Back in the garden today, hopefully I will get into the really overgrown end now and get the more aggressive plants under control.
Have a great day messies!
Edit - Cat glad you are back and OK - take it easy!
Emm - :rotfl: love that quote!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

There aren't many clothes in the washing basket but I will wash blankets and bed linen, including the mattress protector. I've got a pile of papers that need sorting and filing so will aim to get that done. The kitchen floor needs mopping and I'll vacuum downstairs. I've also got all sorts of bits and pieces on top of a set of drawers in the dining room that need to be put away.
Well, the washing got done but then that's one of my favourite things.
Wasn't in the mood for the filing, maybe today...
Didn't do the kitchen floor either but I really must do today. Nor did I vacuum!
I made a start on putting things away from the top of the drawers but didn't finish. Why can't I just get on and do things?
On the plus side, I cleaned the bathroom and made a trifle.
Here's to us all making progress today.

My washing machine has just been sick! Proper projectile vomiting!
It was really quite spectacular. I had a couple of lovely pale jade colour chenille throws, picked up VERY cheap a few months ago. They'd been on the sofa and chair, then swallowed by the black hole in my boxroom until I uncovered them today for washing.
Popped them in the machine and off I go doing other stuff. Then the machine was making the "clean my filter or I go on strike" noise, so I unwarily unscrewed the filter thingy, and out pours what can only be described as green fluffy sick! Tons and tons and tons of it!:eek::eek: It spread out over the floor in a huge green wave and I just stood there frozen to the spot in awe.
This is what it must be like to have children - HOW DO YOU DO IT, MUMS??!! Not only do you have to deal with the stuff itself, but at least this smelled clean :rotfl: You have my undying admiration.
I've had to do several quick rinse cycles to clear it, but the machine is working fine now. It's very fine fluff, just tons and tons and tons of it. I am chucking the chenille throws away, unless anyone has advice about how to rescue them? If it can't go in the machine, it has no place in my home (the only exceptions are the enormous rag rugs that I have instead of carpets, which I wash in the bath).
Oh well... I hadn't planned on mopping the kitchen today but I can now say that I have!
I'm just having a cuppa to calm down and then I'll be off into the garden, just hope I have enough energy left now!
Edit: Right, I'm not touching anything else today.
I thought I'd cleared all the green fluff out but no, the pipes were all blocked and more projectile vomiting, this time from the outlet pipe! Fortunately I have one of those drain python things and managed to wiggle it through to clear the block. I think it's all clear now! But of course that was another round of cleaning, including getting the washing machine out of it's hole. At least it's clean behind there now
My washing (the load before the projectile vomiting) was nicely dry on the line and while I was wading through green fluffy sick again it rained! Managed to get it in just slightly rained on - will air it off in the dri buddi as soon as I feel my destructive streak is over.
Got the washing in, finished cleaning up green fluffy sick in the kitchen and sat down exhausted to calm myself with a bit of MSE reading, and my glasses broke as I went to put them on! :rotfl: I am only laughing because they cost a pound from the cheapie shop, I only use ready readers at the moment, thankfully.
I really shouldn't be typing on this keyboard, should I? :eek:I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
