Difficult, isn't it, Laurel? If it was 'just' worktops and fronts, it would be so much cheaper, but to make the units higher is a whole different ball game. If you do the tiles, the decide later to do something about the units, the tiling will have been wasted. What a quandry.0

Hello!
hope you are all ok!
Been out of the house on a trip with the kids today so not got anything done!
Bearcub - i start new job in September when the opening hours change at the new surgery. This isn't the main surgery so it's only open for an hour a day in our local town but they are hoping to extend to 3 hours a day and maybe squeeze in an evening surgery if there's plenty interest. How are your horses??
Laurel - I got a 2nd hand kitchen off ebay 2 years ago, it's a farmhouse antique pine one that was in a house that someone was renovating. The bloke delivered it from 100 miles away and then we had to see if we could make it fit into our kitchen! A friend of a friend is a joiner and he was a brilliant help, got the units fitted perfectly, all we had to do was buy new worktop and tiles to finish it off. I priced brand new kitchens and the cheapest one i could find was going to cost us £3000 and that was without tiles or flooring. I paid £900 on ebay for my 2nd hand units and had the money to get the tiles and flooring. It really is lovely!
JPS - Disco Napping sounds like a great idea to me!!!
Take care all,
JxxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Laurel, the sink really bugs me in our kitchen. It has a draining bit one side and nothing the other side (well apart from clutter!) which gets wet all the time and drives me nuts.
Mum won't change it - it doesn't bother her as much.
I am however a bit of a perfectionist, for example I am currently not tidying up my room (sorry Molly?) until I can paint the furniture and put the rabbit hutch up there(don't ask just call me the crazy Guinea Pig lady) plus I want rid of the fish tank.......so the mess piles up until I can make perfect. And I don't bother with the halfway house of having a tidy but not perfect room (house)
I wonder if it will always be a pain the a*se kitchen and not worth sorting out....? It might not be, but I know in your position I'd have to fix the units so I could fix everything else if that makes sense.Nevertheless she persisted.0 -
Thanks, FW-I have been looking (for over a year now), but the kitchen is biggish and an awkward shape AND north facing, and I guess I have quite a fixed idea about what I want. Ever hopeful, though. I waited more than two years for the perfect Ebay greenhouse, after allimport this0

FW, I bet you're really looking forward to the job. Our local vet's branch is only open for a short time each day, with the main branch in town, 12 miles away. Our equine vet is also in town, but there's no such thing as 'proper' appointments with them - it's either before of after noon. I guess you have a similar thing with farm animal vets. Our horses are fine, thanks. Lots of horse flies about late this year, cos of the odd weather. Can't get fly spray on the NF pony, even on our hands but, although he gets flies all over him, they don't seem to bother him. I just keep a close watch on his eyes, just in case.
All pet owners are mad in their own way, Buffy, I'm sure of it. Picked up one of the piggies today to move from grass run to hutch for the night. Said piggy made so much noise, I found myself saying that we'd put her on the BBQ tomorrow, then wondered what on earth a listening-in neighbour would have thought! :rotfl:0 -
Yes, Buffy-the kitchen is 25 years old and I just don't think the units are in good enough shape to justify new doors, for instance. I can paint the doors-that's cheap enough, but there's obviously a limit on how much money and effort one can spend dragging it into the 21st century before it's dumb not to just save it (the money and effort) towards a new one.
But hey ho. One way or another, the days of those Eighties tiles are numberedimport this0 -
I haven't been on this thread for ages what with being busy with one thing or another and I got out of the habit but think it's time to join in again.
Recently I had let my ironing slip and there were piles of it in the bedroom but I've got on top of it this week as I've been on holiday from work. I must have spent 2 days ironing! How silly having to do that in your holiday!
In recent weeks I've done a few car boot sales, mainly to sell stuff of my dad's as he's gone into a nursing home but I've also managed to sell some of my stuff. This has been really satisfying and there's still more to sell but I won't get the chance to do another boot sale yet until September. Most of the stuff is in boxes in the garage although there are a few bags of unsorted stuff in the dining room.
There are plenty of tidying up projects that I can be getting on with but I have to sort a corner/cupboard/drawer at a time as these days I can't seem to blitz a whole room at a time, the mere thought of it puts me off completely.
So, what shall I do today? I will have to take advantage of the sunny weather and get some washing done. There aren't many clothes in the washing basket but I will wash blankets and bed linen, including the mattress protector. I've got a pile of papers that need sorting and filing so will aim to get that done. The kitchen floor needs mopping and I'll vacuum downstairs. I've also got all sorts of bits and pieces on top of a set of drawers in the dining room that need to be put away.
It does help taking part in this thread as you feel you have to do the stuff that you have said you will do, plus it's motivating reading about what everyone else is getting done. Plus no one judges if it all goes by the wayside sometimes!0 -
Morning, you are all doing so well at de-messying. :j
:rotfl: Disco nap, I jave never heard of that saying before. My husband likes them.
1st hour today, recycling done and 1 worktop cleared.

One step must start each journey
One word must start each prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care0 -
ah disco naps - a hobby of mine!
I am going on a date today. Deep breath. just be myself. shiny and cheerful (not entirely true but hey)
I cleaned out the hamster (who looks a bit better, has been ill) and the gerbils.
I have a sort of plan, to be honest am not really feeling the dating thing at the moment and have 3 weeks left of my holiday and really can change things here.
SO yeah out today and maybe tomorrow night with friends and them I am going to put myself back to work. I just have to deal with the fact that things must done and my life will be eaiser if I get on top of them.
Catch you later messies, enjoy the sunshine and your day xxxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Have come in for a gentle kick.
Out till 3am with DS looking for the Perseid meteor shower.
Up at 8am to take DD to work.
Don't feel especially tired, but am clearly a bit useless, because I've faffed around without achieving a single thing bar a couple of Ebay listings.
Oh, yes, I remember now. I came online to do a shop :rotfl:import this0
