Blasted nettles, they do rather well don't they? My "small patch" at the [STRIKE]weedy[/STRIKE] wildflower end of the garden is getting a bit aggressive. I will have to wade in and beat it up a bit, but however well I cover myself up, those stingers manage to find a tender spot and zap me!

  • For starters, big hug*

    As previously mentioned:
You have to find a new handyman/ plumber, ask family and friends who they can recommend, and order a new tap (ebay?).
Then.....I would get a loada boxes and start packing up your kitchen bits and bobs, while doing that throw out the stuff you can't/ won't use anymore! Try and get everything washed or wiped, you could boil pans of hot water if the kettle is struggling!!
Then get the soaps and bleach out and give all cupboards a good wash. Can you remove the plinth and maybe investigate where the damp is coming from? Is it just the dishwasher? you might have to invest in a new dishwasher too depending how old yours is. I know it's hard to motivate yourself, especially working long hours,
ask for help from family or friends, it will take half the time and you could have a laugh while doing a chore
    :)

    Afternoon Messies.

Emms, I'm so pleased you came off not too badly with the fall into the nettles. That could have been so nasty. Good news about DD's man's car, even if it took you away from planned de-messying. :)

Jps, I feel for you about the weight problem. Apart from Christmas and New Year a couple of years ago, I've never been overweight, but I have more around my middle than I would like. I used to be an exercise instructor in my 20s, for goodness sake! At 50, I looked in the mirror, and thought, "You've not a bad figure for a 50 year old." Mmm, went downhill from then on :(. DD1 struggles with her weight, DD2 has been fighting an eating disorder for 10 years. And I though we gave them a sensible attitude to food when they were young! Portion size is the way OH went, because of BP problems, and he's done really well.

Well done those who've managed de-messying, especially if you've the hot sticky weather we have atm.

And lots of <hugs> to those who are feeling down.

FW, bit of a bargain you got yourself there. :T Do you know when you start your job?

Yesterday, with the DDs and DD2's bf's mum went very well, with lots of laughs. DD2 hadn't told bf's mum about the problems, which made things a bit awkward when we were left together, and she was saying how pleased she was that they were so happy together, and going to buy a house. DD2 was naturally bouncy (ie herself, not on a 'high' which used to happen sometimes with the depression) and, when I was able to talk to her on her own, being very mature about the whole thing.

Washed 1 WM load before going stable-ward. Have put washing-up away, cleaned bathroom, picked raspberries. Will sweep kitchen floor in a mo, cos I'm walking around in bare feet, and found that the floor's not as clean and clear as it appears to be.
  • Bearcub - I`m so glad your day out went well. Pity about the BF`s mum though, I expect she`ll be saddened by the split-up. Still, there`s time enough for that, sufficient unto the day...
JPS - you`ve just inspired me to go on a ten-minute garden potter! Thanksxx
Since last post I`ve Henry`d hall, LR & kitchen, LR rugs shaken outside & turned clean side up, mopped LR, kitchen & bit by the back door. Didn`t take as long as I expected. Why do I put things off instead of just getting on with it???

Glad the nettles didn't do too much damage. I was spiked all over when we made a start with the brambles this week!

The rabbit pen arrived and looks great, it seems to be going down well with the buns and it's doing a good job of containing the hay - I haven't had to sweep today *yay* Ikwym about jobs not taking as long as you think when you just get on with them. I think of it like exercise - just doing is is better as otherwise I think about what I'm going to do and it feels like I've done it already and it makes me feel tired and also like I don't need to do it again as I've gone through it in my mind. Sounds odd but it's how I think. Ha!

I got a bit tired and had a disco nap after I last posted :o It was jolly hot though, in my defence!

I am just going to do a quick ten minute potter (I like that term, let's have it as a mantra for garden de-messying!) in a minute, then have tea.

Oooh enjoy your "you" time soworried!

A disco nap is a nap in the afternoon so you have enough energy to go to a disco later  Well in my disco days flares were still in, but y'know :D

Soworried, how lovely for you and your OH to have time on your own together - IKWIM.

Alec eiffel, I'm glad the buns like their new home, and a new home that saves you clearing up time must be good! :)

Never heard of the term disco nap, jps, but then I didn't really do discos - I was too busy 'head banging to rock music! :rotfl:

The couple are trying really hard to save the relationship, Emms, and I'm fairly hopeful they will. They were totally tickety-boo until 3 weeks ago - when bf started working for his father :(. And in latter lies the huge problem. The man is a bully and very manipulative.

I swept the kitchen and conservatory floors, and managed to get some gardening done this evening, trimming a few plants, particularly one of the lavenders in the front, that's finished flowering.

Well, I've mostly decluttered the study. A small pile of filing to go.

And pottered up two more buckets of weeds.

And...just pottered things into place, really.

But it's all maintenance. Nothing important started or finished.

Need to make decisions re kitchen.

    Do I...

Knock off tiles and retile? (Advantage-no further spending, except maybe a good tile cutter)

Knock off tiles, sell tiles already bought (which are far more deeply grooved than I thought when I bought them-dirt trap alert!), fix walls and buy splashbacks/upstands instead? £

Buy new worktops, get plumber in to disconnect gas and water, raise old units to comfortable height? (As I'm probably stuck with this kitchen for years, DS isn't getting any shorter and is already complaining of backache?) ££ And is it really going to make me like the kitchen???? I suppose new worktops are optional. But I really hate them, and it's a lot of work/expense just to move the blasted things.

    Sigh.
