Hi Magpye,

First piece of advice which I use to help keep my sanity is to shut the door.
Really, it helps a little.
Then every hour that I am at home, I force myself to do 1 little task. Even if that is taking a cup from the living room in to the kitchen. It is more to keep me moving rather than anything else but it has helped my home get better, all be it very slowly.
I still get some days where I can not motivate myself to face it, but then I get some days where I can do a lot. :j

Your hours of work are much the same as anyone elses so there must be another reason why your kitchen has got like that, do you not do any housework on the weekends?
If you leave for work at say 7.00 am and you're home at 5.00pm there's still enough time in the evenings to set to and make a start on getting it clean again, especially while it's light in the evenings. It's what every full-time working person in the country has to do. Your hubby is still at work for 2 hours after you get home, so try and get some done so it's nice for him to come home to?
Sunday mornings I find the best time to scrub stuff, just get a set of scruffs to wear while you do it, get the radio on and sing your way through it.
Plan to spend half an hour cleaning every night, you'll soon catch up.
Bleach is the best thing to get the cupboards germ free, and there's mould removing products you can pick up.

I think you need a new plumber or if you look on YouTube, there are loads of videos that show just how easy it is to change or repair a tap.

Do you need to replace the units? Perhaps there's some sort of leak going on at the back of them causing all the damp? But all the Stuff is getting in the way of this?
How about - considering that you can get a replacement dinner set for a tenner - taking one Saturday afternoon and binning the lot?
Bin the plates.
Bin the cups.
Bin the teatowels.
Bin all those tubs and packets and funny little plastic gadgets you thought might be a good idea at the time, but just make it hard to close the drawer properly.
Bin the rusty old tins you never use and the salad spinner that's been sat on the top of a cupboard for ages.
Bin the doormat.
Bin EVERYTHING except for the large appliances.
Once it's all gone, use paper plates for a short period.
And scrub, bleach and scrape every surface with incredibly hot water.
So when the new plumber comes round (as you won't be wanting the current one when he's back from his very nice foreign holiday), there is a lovely clear, clean and easy to access kitchen for him to work in.

It didn't get into that state overnight so it won't get back to normal overnight..you're going to have to do it in bite size pieces.
First thing is to get a plumber in.
Before that you're going to have to get those dishes washed somehow and wipe down the kitchen units. It might take a few sessions and a few boiled kettles but it will be so worth it to you emotionally and physically in the end.

Hope you are all ok.
We got our silage in :rotfl:!!! The weather is being kind to us at the moment so fingers crossed we'll get our wheat in on Saturday...
I cleaned the bathroom this morning, i hate doing the bathroom, i think it's because i don't like the suite and would like to change it but we can't afford it at the moment! I went in to use the loo and decided i'd have a quick whizz round, 20 mins later it was lovely and clean. That put me in the mood to hoover the living room and sweep the kitchen floor, the girls said to me 'are we getting visitors or something?' haha cheeky monkeys!!
I got some le creuset items on ebay the other day, i look out for ones that are within driving distance as the postage is so expensive as they are so heavy. I went to collect them from a lovely lady who was selling them because she 'liked the red ones better'??? I now have a huge blue pie dish, ramekins & lasagne dish - all for less than £30!! She also said that she will get in touch with me when she sells the rest to see if i'm interested! (gives me time to save!!)
Oldest daughter had tennis lesson tonight so i sat in the car and did some sewing - picture for my dad for xmas. Got home and made supper for us, mr farmer won't be in till after midnight as he's silaging at his brothers farm today.
Well, i'd better go and tidy the kitchen before mr farmer gets back and sees the mess on the kitchen table.....:D

Being surrounded by stuff in the name of being MSE or in danger of turning into a hoarder's kitchen? I know which one I prefer. Even if it cost fifty quid, it's worth it.
Especially as boxing up and [strike]dumping[/strike] shipping them to [strike]take up space[/strike] be stored by somebody else involves washing, sorting, buying boxes, buying packaging, packing, transporting, bringing back and eventually tripping over the unopened boxes in the kitchen again.

I have had a major clean up today - although I vac up nearly every day, I had a big push today. The conservatory roof and all it's nooks and crannies was cleaned and then I cleaned the rest of the conservatory as well, floor, sills everything. It did not look dirty at all but after three bucket changes of water (with soda crystals and stardrops mixes) the water was pretty dirty. I have to say it is immaculate out there now.
I have done four loads of washing (last lot just done now and that will go out on the line tomorrow). I washed the voils at the front door and also I have allot of fabric which I weave around a pole that is in the kitchen so I took that down and washed those. I also cleaned the kitchen blind one slat at a time and then put polish on it. Cleaned the kitchen window again inside and out even though it was done just over a week ago. Everything in the kitchen was clean so felt it needed an extra push just to finish it off. Got to say the kitchen floor is gleaming as I used stardrops on that as well. I am a bit hit and miss with stardops sometimes I use it all the time and other times I forget about it. Must try harder with it as it makes cleaning easier with good results.
Stripped our bed back and washed all of that it was nice to see the white sheets on the line in this lovely sunshine.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

Magpye - first of all you are not going to achieve anything by waiting for this plumber. Ask your friends or colleagues for a recommendation - that is the best course of action then act on it.
When you are at home in this nice weather keep the room well ventilated, get your windows open and if you have a back door keep that open as well.
Mould spores are best dealt with by using hot water bleach and a cloth and most importantly elbow grease.
Once you have got the plumbing issue sorted out then you can get cracking on your kitchen. For the time being it may be worth putting everything that you dont use into boxes and putting them elsewhere, that will keep your kitchen down to the bare minimum and will allow you to work - you are going to have to do this for the plumber to be able to his/her job anyway.
In a tip the key is organisation, once that plumber jobs are done you will be able to then make progress.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

Today I got all our holiday laundry washed and ironed and put away apart from some underwear which is on an airer in the conservatory.
Got three suitcases unpacked and put in the attic.
Had to strip DD's bed this morning. She has Autism and sometimes has trouble controlling her bowel movements. All washed, dried outside, bed remade and smelling lovely and fresh.
