Morning, I hope everyone is feeling a little bit more motivated today. :)

Does anyone want to join me in the hourly challenge?

Possession, I had to laugh at your 7 year old want to be goth. My 13 year old is a hard rock, guitar player with long hair. I was so concerned at first as I am very traditional but he is lovely and has stayed that way so far.

Hi BB your get up and go will be in there somewhere. It is just a case of turning it back on slowly.

Cat, I hope you are sorted out ready for your lovely new washer? x

1st hour today, recycling done. My reward is a coffee. :)
2nd hour, half of the dishes done. My reward is to watch some of the hockey.
3rd hour, 2nd half of the dishes washed, worktops cleaned and hob. Dry towels folded and put in to the airing cupboard. Bed made, curtains opened and dirty clothes put in to the basket. A very productive hour, it must be because the sun has come out. :)
4th hour, kitchen floor cleared and my husband has hoovered the full house except my sons bedroom as he didn't want the noise while on xbox live to his friends.
    5th hour, bathroom bin emptied.
6th hour, bathroom tidied and lunch made.

    Hi everyone,

Badger, the reason you feel like there are more interesting things to do than clean and tidy is because it's 100% true. The thing is that when you can establish a good routine rather than chaining you to the house it frees you from it. It's just that the legwork you have to do to get to that easy point can be long and a bit tedious because it's the hard bit - decluttering and finding a home for everything.

In terms of the days when you've done a long shift might a set of minimums help? Just the absolute basics to keep things ticking over - making sure everyone has something to wear, something to eat the sink is clear (which might involve washing up), squirting cleaner down the loo, wiping the bathroom sink and spending 2 minutes putting things away in the main rooms. That's maximum 15 minutes work then you could do the other things when you're not at work. And I don't mean spending the whole day cleaning but just fit in the bigger jobs like hoovering, dusting, laundry etc, maybe a 30 minute blitz on top of the minimum jobs so you can get on with your day.

I love the top of the hour bursts Soworried does too, as you know the sooner it's done the sooner you don't have to do anything else!

Today I'm doing a few small tasks, getting on top of the washing and giving the bedrooms a dust and hoover. We start our holiday on Wednesday so I want everything to be nice and tidy (we're having a holiday at home) and I don't want to see something out of the corner of my eye and think I need to deal with it. So two big days should do it.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone hope it's ok for me to join you all.
I have been reading this thread for a while now and it's time for me
to take control of my house.
Today i am going to sort out my drawers at the side of the bed.
The drawer is that full i can't get anything else in and i bet it's all junk for the bin.
I'm hoping posting here will help keep me motivated and push me into doing something.
Looking forward to getting to know you all :)

    Morning messies!

I like Soworried's methods too - and I so agree about the sun! It makes me want to do more when it's sunny and warm.

The bread turned out really well, I'd forgotten how much nicer home made tastes. The only problem is that it's a bit too solid for sandwiches, if you know what I mean.

I have a little electric slicer machine that can cut it very thin, but it's still a bit too heavy for making sandwiches. But then I do add oatbran, wheatbran, pumpkin and poppy seeds to it, so that's probably why!

We've just had a very heavy shower here, monsoon-style. The cat has just come in soaked, and expects me to dry her off with an old towel. Hmmmph. I wonder if the crickets are good swimmers - the garden is awash!

I'm off to the shops again in a minute - I need some more sparkling water from Aldi, and might have a rummage in some charity shops as well.

    Have a great day messies!

Edit: welcome Saffsie - good luck with the de-messying!

    morning messies, welcome saffsie!:D

Did the washing machine last night, it was surprisingly easy to move, didn't need any help in the end. I'm sure it's much lighter than the one I had before!

Anyway new WD coming between 11 and 1, so feeling a bit in limbo till that's all sorted. Made one important phone call which needed doing today, got another one to make but that can wait. Wrote a difficult pm and not really feeling up to making any plans. Thought about walking up the garden centre later to buy a decorative pot for my plant (still alive :)) but it keeps raining quite heavily so maybe not.

    Hugs all :) xxx

Right OH is working away for 10 days as of Wednesday I am determined that when he gets back the bedroom will be cleared and I will have FINALLY finished my unpacking from April! :(

I only have a couple of extra shifts this week but one of them is all day Saturday so I'm hoping my Sunday shift won't be all day (rota doesn't get done until Sat)

Anyway any tips on tackling this the room is a bit of a dumping zone for clothes, books, magazines ect. I was thinking of piliing everything from the floor on to the bed (bagging up any rubbish in the mean time) and then picking my way through the mountain of rubbish.

Worst case scenario if I don't clear bed straight away I can sleep on put you up in spare room. Does this sound like a logical plan?

I also want to go through the wardrobes and have a declutter but I'm thinking that can wait or is it best to do it all in one hit.

I just want him to be pleased when he gets back as I know it is seriously beginning to annoy him (there is only so much mess he can take). Plus we have been having a rough time recently and by cleaning up it will show I care lol

I would say it depends. Is any of the stuff that's all over the place going to go into the wardrobe? If yes then I'd be tempted to do that first so you have a nice decluttered space to put things in. Plus a wardrobe is a clearly defined area - you know when it's done, rather than a room that has a huge area to deal with.

If the other stuff isn't going into the wardrobe I'd just start at the door and work my way through the room. Using the multi bag/box method, I find that's the easiest way rather than having a big "misc" pile. Remove all the obvious rubbish, any laundry and dirty dishes first as that's really easy then you're left with "put away in this room", "put away elsewhere" and "stuff to leave the house" - recycling, extra rubbish, charity, car boot etc. I personally wouldn't pile it onto the bed as that's just more work imo, but if you think that would help you then go for it.

I'd set the put you up bed up before I got started, on the off chance it's needed. Doing it first means there's one less job to do at the end of a tiring day.
