My home is a mess

I painted the shelf, shirting board and undercoated the small wardrobe door this morning and sanded another wardrobe. Going to have a coffee now then I am going to sweep the living room and put away all the stuff that's collected on my tray.
I am really bad for leaving my bits of junk lying around so I have a tray on the coffee table, all my bits and bobs go on there. And they can stay there as long as they're contained within the tray. If things start spilling over then something has to happen. Works well for me, it's only ever little things like handcream, thread, bits of quilting fabric and sweets.
I've also established a place for our "in use" books and magazines to live in the living room. Doesn't sound like much but it will be a great help.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Hi Messies!
Hello again Soupdragon, nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear about your OH, but your hay meadow sounds fine - better than my jungle anyway!
FW & Enlightenment - I tried that confiscating clutter thing ages ago when our lot were little, but as they didn`t leave stuff they REALLY wanted lying around the place, it didn`t work. With 4 fosterlings all infants/junior school age group, I DID find a `Points Chart` helpful though.
The points could be docked or added as extra, and that translated into a bit more - or less! pocket money. The chart was on the LR door (along with a sticker that said `door` in ball & stick writing - these were all over the place, to help with reading & word recognition as the kids were all struggling with school.) Then my DS discovered that the eldest lad was very neatly amending the chart, even though it wasn`t `competetive`, and cooking the books in his favour!
After we scrapped that idea Hubby started another scheme, this WAS competetive - each would be given a task (taking age/ability into account) and timed as to who got finished first. He made it great fun though, giving a hilarious sort of running commentary as the kids were busy - and sometimes tasks didn`t get finished because they`d all be rolling around giggling helplessy at the commentary!
Soworried -glad your day out went well. It`s a big step forward, well done you! (I used to hate the rides, only thing I liked was the dodgem cars, but that was always a popular ride with all of us)
My neck is the afflicted area - I went doc-bothering this morning, now off work a few days & watch that space. I will be doing a bit of gentle pottering and try to make good use of the time.
Have a nice day all.0 -
Oh dear, I really must keep up to date here - have read the last two pages and thought, oooh I must reply to that, and that, and that.....and now I can barely remember any of it!!:o
So, apologies
- big hugs to everyone who is feeling down/unwell. Emm, thanks x, gillybean glad to hear your good health news, and soworried I'm so proud of you and glad you all had a good day yesterday!! :T
I did go to Pride on Saturday, it was really good, very colourful, but didn't stay that long because the heavens opened badly (just about the time Joe McElderry came on stage. I'm not saying the two events were related or anything.....:p).Myself and a couple of others repaired to a pub, though DD1and one of her pals stayed on to see the Cheeky Girls and said they were surprisingly entertaining!
I'm struggling a bit to get back into that good groove I had before going away, I think my holiday came at the wrong time! Waiting in today for the carpet cleaner and bathroom cabinet to be delivered, any time between 7am and 8pm....0 -
Thankyou Cat x
Getting a new carpet cleaner might be the spur you need to get you started.

Hi Cat - don`t fret, you did so much before your hols I`m sure you`ll get back into it. Glad your Pride day out sounds good despite the weather - so many events are getting piddled on lately, it`s heaving down here today and it`s supposed to be next doors youngest`s sports day!
I`m getting Something done today...
AlecEiffel`s tray sounds so neat compared to my log basket....
I have 2, one each side of the hearth. The one near the computer station is FULL of carp. It`s one of my worst procrastinations., because it looks ok with a pile of firesticks on top, hiding the carp. Since I last posted I`ve got halfway down, sorting and shredding as I go. I`m listening to `Bernadette` omnibus on Iplayer so I can pause when I find shredding stuff, just stopped for a coffee break....0 -
Ha! It's "teetering jenga-like tray pile" rather than neat, but better than on the floor being chewed by rabbits (I've lost many many things that way!)0

Soworried - glad you enjoyed the day out. You've proved to yourself that the outside world isn't quite as scary as you'd started thinking it was!
Faith - your tale reminded me of a story I heard somewhere. Probably an urban myth but entertaining nevertheless. A chap wanted to get rid of some old but functioning white goods so left them on his lawn with a sign saying "free to a good home" and no one took them. So the next day he changed the sign to say "for sale - £50 each"... and they were all nicked within half an hour :rotfl:Well, everyone loves getting a bargain :rotfl:0 -
OMG sonastin I forgot all about that story until you reminded me
Soworried so please your day out went to plan how great for you :T I bet the kids loved spending time with you
Em hope your neck gets better soon. OH has a compressed sciatic nerve at the moment and is in agony (but he is STILL going to work )
Cat glad you enjoyed pride. I did the London one a few years back and it was such a great day. Will have to try the Glasgow one I can crash at my brothers flat for the weekend (Yippee cheap digs lol)First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
Hi messies,
i'm not usually on here at this time of day but i've got a poorly child at home today so i'm keeping her company while she sleeps on the sofa
!! Tee-hee!!
SoWorried - Well done on the day out! I can remember feeling just like you, i had to make myself go to my sons school prizegiving, it was only a 10 minute journey but i felt like throwing myself out of the car on the way there and when we sat down in the school hall i would rather have hidden under my chair but i had to stay for my sons sake. I was soo pleased with myself afterwards, just taking that little step made me feel a bit better and i knew that i could do it. I also used to feel shattered the next day after i'd managed to go out so take it easy on yourself, you've done so well!!! :T
Well, i've made a lemon loaf and put a load of washing in so far today, i'll just have a coffee before i go and tackle someting else.......
JxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Soworried, :T Very well done to you! I remember so well the feeling of panic (mostly in Mr T's, but maybe that's understandable
), when I had to go out anywhere. Such an achievement for you. I think you deserve an extra treat unless, of course, you regard yesterday as a treat in itself, seeing your OH and kids enjoying themselves.
I'm glad you enjoyed yourself on Saturday, Cat. It's not too suprising that you're finding it difficult to get going again, though, after your hols, as I find that after nearly every holiday. But at least you didn't have total chaos to come back to, to push you back too far.
I don't have any sort of container for my 'hanging around' stuff, but it's a brilliant idea. Will go and get a spare plastic box from the garage.
