    Hi everyone,

I've set myself up in the dining room today as everywhere just feels damp and mucky - I think it's the weather, so I'm going to give the doors, worktops and floor a wash.

DH put the decorating things in the garage yesterday and I'm not going to do any more painting until the weekend. That's a huge weight off - you know when it feels like there's just a never ending list and there's something right at the top of the list making you procrastinate about everything else. That's painting for me.

So far I have made the bed, washed up and that's all. Had a lie in today so broke my own rule about getting the minimums done before putting the computer on. I'm off to do it and will report back. Have a good day.

Know just what you mean alec - I think for me it was the carpets - and painting lol. Sometimes it just feels pointless doing things if you have it in your head that it'll still look carp.

Anyway that's my Sky HD box just arrived a day early, delivered by a different parcel postie. Is the usual one on holiday? Day off? Or did I scare the carp out of him so much he's asked to be put on a different route??:rotfl:

I opted for self set-up so I could get the box for nothing, so I'm off now to try and work it all out. This will probably take up hours 3 and 4 :D

Wow, carpets. We have one new carpet, many old carpets that I scrubbed by hand a month or so ago to establish some kind of pile and the bathroom and living area with nothing on the floor at all. The walls have been a mess for 2 years - we had the house rewired and it's been so daunting to deal with where everything was chased out each room has taken an age. But it's getting there - very slowly.

Anyway, that's all stuff that's solved with money not effort so there's not much I can do just now. I have now cleaned the sink and bin in the bathroom, tidied my wardrobe, tidied the spare room, collected up all the laundry, tidied the airing cupboard, put a load of washing on and wiped all the kitchen cupboard doors. Having a cuppa now then will find something else to do.

Good luck with the Sky box. Our cables are protected by a state of the art lego wall so the rabbits don't chew through them again!

    Afternoon Messies.

Re Mr Oliver - it's definitely his voice that does it. I recently read one of his books, and you can almost hear him in his writing!

Well done Scarletravens, and even better that you feel a sense of achievement, because that'll spur you on to keep going.

Oh Cat, carpet cleaning! I've never done any but spot cleaning, but our lounge carpet does badly need cleaning. We have a porch but no hallway, so the front door leads straight into the lounge. We liked the bungalow so much, we never thought about this problem when we bought it. I hope you work out the box ok.

I can understand how you feel about doing the house up, alec. It seems to take forever, doesn't it? The day we moved into our previous house, after the removal men had gone, we sat in the middle of the lounge, and both thought (we later found out) what on earth had we done? The previous owners has stripped everything out - the carpets, the lino, the light bulbs, and the wallpaper was hideous. At least this place was quite decently decorated.

So you are getting the dog, then, YL? When? You must be so excited! :T

Soworried, well done with the gardening.

So, 2 WM loads, as it's actually not raining today, and pretty bright. A loaf made in the BM, and washing-up put away. Will get the vacuum out now, and have a quick zoom before fetching Mum from the hairdresser.

    Hi all,

I found and subscribed to this thread a few weeks ago and have since been lurking, I've skim read a few pages and certainly the first few, but there's quite a lot to get through! I'd really like to join you all on this quest for a more manageable house. I'd say perfect but that's not what I'm aiming for.

I don't want to live in a sterile environment, just like many of you on here, I just want to stop feeling embarrassed by the mess when people pop round, and I want to feel freer in my mind and I think removing the clutter will help too.

I too have been unwell, but am fully diagnosed and on the right meds now, still a way to go but things are looking up and I finally have more energy.

I've put a self-enforced deadline for de-clutter stage 1 in place as I've invited my friends over to stay here for a long weekend to celebrate 20 years since we met, 3 Ladies plus their husbands and 4 children between them, plus Mr and baby Bobble_hat. We can accommodate them but only if we clear the room of Doom and chuck out the old furniture to make space for the furniture from the old office, so each room can house a double bed and a travel cot. I've got less than two weeks to clear the rooms

I have made a start, I've spring cleaned the dining room, that took a week! I've spring cleaned the utility room, that took 3 days, I'm getting faster.

I've managed to get up to date with all the washing and ironing (kind of) the ironing is all done and put away, the next load is drying and I'll put another wash on tonight, this essentially means that my washing/ironing routine is back in place.

I intend to start on the Room of Doom tonight, I work full time (currently taking a tea break :o) so the evenings and weekends are the only time I have strictly speaking. I do work from home so can do the odd 15 min run around. And I need to slot in all the 'normal' household cleaning too, so I'm not rushing around on the Friday morning finishing off.

So all you lovely people - any tips would be gratefully received.

My initial thinking is get some boxes, Label E-Bay, Car-Boot, Charity and bin bag the rest for the tip. I've told myself as long as I get everything boxed up I don't have to sell it, or move it all straight away, as long as it's sorted and stored in time for the guests arriving Friday week. Mr Bobble's Bestie is helping install our loft ladder this weekend so I can store everything until I have time to list (E-Bay) and Label (Car-boot). The majority of the clutter is baby stuff I've not had the heart to get rid of (just in case), this all needs sorting through, but I can store for now (just in case).:D

    What do you think?

I've cleared a worktop in the kitchen. Am going to place some garden flowers there later to look pretty.

Hello Bobble hat, and welcome. Sounds to me like you've got a good plan there. It's so easy to get behind with everything when you're not in the best of health, mentally or physically, isn't it? But you've got that sorted by the sound of it, and bags/boxes to sort into will do the trick. You obviously don't have time for baby steps, so a fairly rapid sort out could do short term, but you may have to go through them again later. Basically, you need a quick de-clutter, and having the roof space to store will help. If we didn't have ours, we'd be constantly falling over stuff in our tiny house.

Re the cleaning, do what has to be done - only what your guests would see and nothing else. You can go back and finish the job properly later.
