But the council official had no such right to tell you that you couldn't feed your cat on your step, on your property, snookey! The only possible reason for which he could do that was if it was attracting vermin and, even then, he would have to prove that, and it would have to be backed up with an official letter. I've had so many dealings with matters relating to troublesome neighbours, I know this! I'm really indignant on your behalf.
Sweets and cakes may be 'rubbish', but they're nice rubbish occasionally.

Thanks Bearcub. Nosy snitch had told him that my feeding the cats outside had led to them catching a rat. Bear in mind it was a one off and the food was gone as soon as it was put down. We have a large park just outside our door in which our cats go. The park has rats but thats due to a sewer drain cover coming off in the park .
If anything my four cats are keeping the rats at bay . Council official did not want to see the real reason.
He is getting some of his own medicine though as two familys with children have moved in eaither side of him. They enjoy playing football . Karma always bites back.
We were going to join slimmers world today but failed, instead those naughty sweets.
Hugs bearcub and everyone who needs one.0 -
Hi everyone!
The weather has been crap again today so i ironed this morning before taking the girls to tennis training. Got home and sorted some washing, then realised that i needed to get clothes ready for a Christening we're going to tomorrow, mad dash round house to locate 'good' clothes for the girls!!! It's times like this that i wish i had a tidier and more organised house!!!
I'm going to bake in the morning and then off to church in the afternoon, hope the weather improves!
Have a nice Sunday everyone!!
JxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -

Oh dear. Next week, maybe. We were going to join slimmers world today but failed, instead those naughty sweets.
Another event, then, farmerswife. All go, isn't it? There are only the two of us now, and our house is so small, we don't have that many clothes, and, most of those are jeans and sweatshirts.

We've had a mad busy couple of days but the house looks much better for it...
Thursday we hired a mini-digger and pulled up over 100 ft of manky overgrown ugly conifer hedge. Took half of them to the tip too.
Friday took the rest of the conifers plus the sacks of rubble which were once the wall between the living room and kitchen to the tip and then planted 75 laurels to make a start on the new hedge. We bought 100 laurels as bare-root stock last year and potted them up. They've all survived so getting rid of that many pot-plants has made as much difference to the garden as getting rid of the nasty old hedge!
Today we put in the steel that is spanning the space between the kitchen and living room. I then left OH to get on with putting the ceiling back up while I got on with house work. 3 loads in the WM. 2 out on the line. One into tumbly drier. Other 2 back into WM to spin the rain water out before also going in tumbly drier :rotfl:. Also cleaned bathroom, changed bedding, defrosted freezer, grocery shopped, baked a cake and some cookies, made some HM lemon curd and generally pottered in a productive fashion. Was intending to pot on some of the plants we've got on the window sill but was interrupted by having to help OH with the steel and then the rain came so never went back to it. I guess that's tomorrow's job
Hope this weather settles down soon. A nice summer would be preferable but a rubbish summer would be manageable. Its this ever changing do-I-need-thermals-or-flip-flops weather that I can't cope with0 -
Hi Bearcub, yes my two fall out then its all forgotten half an hour later! DS1 is a bit better thank you, the new treatment has definitely helped and he isnt quite as tired as he was. As far as other things go we have a mountain to climb. I think we accept now that he has missed so much school that he will probably never go back and may never get the qualifications that he would have done. And of course the anxiety and depression is very difficult to treat. One day at a time though. Well done on your achievements yesterday - I know about the novelty thing after we completely redid DS1s bedroom. I am still jealous about your new bathroom though, ours is awful!
Oh and Sonastin - phew - I dont even know what to say, getting that hedge sorted must feel like a massive achievement.
I just love the line in your post "I then left OH to get on with putting the ceiling back up while I got on with house work." Beat that!
Going to have some brekkie and do a bit of pottering about. Have a good Sunday everyone.0 -
Welcome Welcome one and all, old and new.
soz I haven't been around much. I have been reading everyone's posts and I'm SO PROUD to read everyone's exploits. YOU GUYS ROCK!!! Take a bow, then whilst you're down there see what else you can pick up :rotfl:.
So what's new with me?
I'm embarrassed to say I've not been doing much (still enjoying my redundancy) and OMG did it show! my house was full of my unfinished 'projects' and then...
HWTHMBO came back from his club meet late Wednesday night to tell me he'd invited the club are coming over to OUR HOUSE for a BBQ on Saturday.
<panic mode on>
Thursday I cleared the boy's rooms of all the clothes I was 'sorting' (proud to say they are now in assorted bin bags in the car - for cash for clothes (50p/kg with voucher), or in bag for the bay of e or bagged up - boys size 6-7 years - for my mum's neighbour).:T
sorted out the dumping ground aka the conservatory, mowed the lawn, weeded veg patch, planted triffids (overgrown seedlings) from cold frame, collected boys from school/clubs and made tea.
Building on my success from Thursday I went to DS#2's sports day, booked them onto a residential outward bound activity holiday, went to a jam making masterclass at my friend's house (made 1lb of stawberry, next week elderflower cordial/champagne), popped into the DIY barn to pick up a few whoopsie plants on way to collect DS#1 from school, made tea, sorted our room out. and then my 'wardrobe' fell down in the night (it's a plastic chain hung from the ceiling with a hook, the chain broke and the hung up clothes fell on the floor with a loud clatter).
<panic mode off>
I'm proud to say all of us blitzed the house on saturday morning (I even used that trick of cleaning the bath with biological washing powder and I pleased to say IT WORKED!!) before DS#1 went out on his date and the reest of us went to help the landlord of the pub where HWTHMBO's club meet to clear his barn. The house was immaculate (well, for us).
and then I took my eye off the boys (aged 8 & 12) whilst we set up the BBQ etc and....
They discovered the toys that were in the conservatory and decided to get the WHOLE LOT OUT AND THEN LEAVE IT OUT just as the guests arrived. I managed to get most of it up and chuck it all into a box and the party was a success AND after the boys went to bed we tidied everything away and it was LOVELY to come down this morning to a clean house.
Well, I'm out training with the boys for the midnight moo today (7miles around the local forest).
catch up later.

DS#2 - my twenty -one son0 -
hi messies - just a quickie - bearcub I was born and brought up in Glasgow but spent all the summer holidays in Devon as a child (family there) and moved there for 5 years when I was 17
I don't know Axminster itself very well but I love going for drives around the whole area, down lanes with grass growing up the middle! Mum hates driving in the lanes - she'd make someone reverse a mile rather than reverse 10 yards! - but dad will be there this time so I'm looking forward to some magical mystery tours! The weather doesn't look as it it will be great for walking though

Awesome achievements by everyone this weekend!:T:T I took the day off yesterday (apart from a trip to the dump with dad - I really didn't think I had a hangover until I got in the car!) but back on track today to fulfil my decluttering pledges, and with no tennis on I really have no excuse not to do it! But I feel like if I don't get started very soon, I might not do it!
Don't plan on doing much else today, have washed up yesterday's dishes and given the worktops a very quick wipe over.
hugs all x0 -
Hi Messies.
Phew! I`ve just mega-enjoyed reading posts here to catch up, but my brain isn`t in gear yet to respond properly...well done all, and ((HUGS)) all round!
I`ve just finished a 3-day shift marathon stretch, now off for 3. Today was supposed to be `slob-out` day, but apart from a long lie-in I now discover we`re out of catfood and bread - well, there`s bread with green spots on, but I prefer the edible sort... and there was a nuthatch on the empty peanut feeder when I got up, and we`re out of peanuts too! So much for my forward planning, eh?
To be honest, the last 3 days went really well at work, so busy the hours flew, and my particular allocated patients all improving greatly, though they`re still hard work! It really gives me a buzz when that happens, it`s rare - usually you get some getting better while some are getting worse, but it`s so nice to have good stuff to tell their families when they visit or phone. Friday was a bit hectic, they always are, but after I`d had to practically chase our consultant around the ward a few times to get some details clear before his weekend break...at one point he implied that someone had set a Rottie on him...he was really quite nice and funny after, and gave me a hug before he left!
My advance planning/cooking for last 3 days` suppers paid off, went according to plan for once.
But...
House is a mess. Weather is carp. And we`re going down the pub this evening, so there! Only I have to go shopping first...
Have a nice Sunday folks xxx
Drags self off to Mr M`s.....0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Sonastin, what a huge task, pulling up all those conifers, and clearing up the mess but as you say, planting the new shrubs must have made so much difference. As, YL says, the 'putting the ceiling back up' statement takes some beating. Your house must have taken some shaking! :rotfl:
I'm so pleased to hear that your DD1 is a bit better, YL. Hopefully, the other problems will be sorted out eventually, just not at the same rate as other people's.
Cat, I can't say I know Axminster well, either, considering the last time we were there, DD1 was 6, and she's now 32! The southwest has been hammered almost constantly by heavy rain this summer - bit like in your area, but a bit milder, I'd guess. Sussex, on the other hand, has enjoyed some spells of pretty good weather while we, in the IOW and Dorset, have been somewhere in the middle, literally and with our weather. I hope you can really relax in Devon.
I'm glad your work has been satisfying this week, Emms. Try not to worry about the mess, just enjoy one day off!
Very sunny but windy day here. Despite all my preparation for our meeting after the service today, I had so much to take in, that I forgot the important paperwork, and left it sitting in its folder by the pooter. Everyone had to wait 20 mins while I drove home and back again.
As usual on a sunday, I'll shall be doing very little de-messying but Mum's coming for dinner, so I have to vacuum the wood shavings from the lounge carpet while the cat's asleep - she's scared of the cleaner, and is totally deaf. I've already cleaned all the splash marks off the bathroom mirror.0
