Hi Messies. I did a `long-day` at work today, thought I`ll just check in here, have a quick read to cheer myself up...Thanks, & Bless you`s All, it did. (Interactions with Patients & visitors is satisfyingly `normal`, but staff morale/interaction is awful, & we`re feeling loss of 2 great colleagues yet somehow not reacting right, still not quite all pulling together sort of thing...)
On top of that, OH also deeply troubled about work issues. His is a different branch of nursing, and his Glums make mine seem insignificant, (not that HE sees it that way, doesn`t belittle my glums) so I came home a bit low - then did my best to be the positive one... you think YOUR day was !!!!!, but then you just ACHE to cheer and support someone who`s had a worse day than you !! Hugs and listening and a nice meal (SO glad I did the lamby thing yesterday, it was really nice warmed up tonight.)
Fuddle - welcome to Messies board. You have TWO piles...one for IRONING!!?? WHY?? I will HANG, I will FOLD, I will sort household`s stuff into their separate areas, but I will NOT Iron. Ever. End of!
Laurel, & others who`ve posted re parents... I`ve been an `orphan` for over 35 years now, they had me (an only child) quite late in their lives. And I`m still very influenced by their opposing attitudes - Mum (a nurse!) was the feisty one, the strict one, and the optimist. As a child, she fed my ambition, imagination, and SHARED my various enthusiasms, despite being a working mum she was somehow always there for me, that`s how I remember it. Her cooking was a bit hit & miss & she got frustrated as dad was the ace cook, but her successes were outstanding when they happened. we fought like a pair of vixens when I was a stroppy teen, but we got back on an even keel as soon as I`d left home, and my darling mum was always the one person in the whole world that I could row with and 5 minutes later we`d be hugging and laughing together, and she was ALWAYS supportive, ALWAYS warm & responsive and appreciative when I got something right - or even when I just Tried.
Dad was normally frustratingly (for me & mum, I now recognise this retrospectively) Calm & Placid, except for the rare rant, a great cook, a bit ploddy and negative about any new idea. Mum was the Mover, the Innovator, while dad got anxious and depressed about Change - especially as he got older.
I can see lots of traits in myself from both of them, and I loved them both dearly of course - but when I catch bits of dad in my thinking I try to fight it...mum is my role model - I can almost hear her still, especially sometimes at work, sometimes with DGD, or DD... and now with OH as well.
Thanks, Laurel, for leading me up this train of thought, it`s been really helpful tonight. And I`m sure your parents ARE proud of you, as mine are (except mine aren`t around to say otherwise) it`s just how folks sound, and how we sometimes flog ourselves silly trying to please others / get a verbal `pat on the head`....who is really to blame for this, us or them we want to please??0 -

If you can plan 15 minutes extra every other day you'll soon have it a bit more under control, and don't worry about it, Rome wasn't built in a day.
I’ve been doing this for years and being committed to clean 10-15 minutes in each area of the house every day let’s me feel doing it is not so hard at all.0 -
eek, I couldn't not iron. I think it's because I cram a big load in the washing machine and then again in the tumbler. Right. I'm going to be more selective in what needs ironing. Oh no, 3 piles lol
I've got a lot on today and trying to plan it all out. I want to get that mountain of pants sorted and put away though. That's a priority.0 -
Garden & shed are now totally de-cluttered and transformed! .. Now its time to resume with the house... First thing on my list this morning is to get rid of the 2nd basket of ironing, then I am going to make a start on my pantry... I keep saying I am going to do it but other things always get in the way.. I need to sew DS's Beaver badges on his uniform and my sewing basket is right at the back of the pantry so I have got to get it done today.. DH is home so he can help
Hope everyone has a lovely day.. x0 -
Serious sorting went on this weekend
Dining room aka the office (I work from home) repainted in bubblegum pink (decided a purple wall wouldn't work so ceiling is white walls are pink) two doors, skirting and french doors all need glossing but the room looks FAB and I threw out loads of junk that was languishing. I unexpectedly had to work on Sunday (who'd have thought Open Reach engineers would come out and fix my phone on a Sunday morning !) so had to stop at 2pm but friend popped around to help put the new bed together and bless her turned out my bedroom first .
Washing mountain is tackled and is now a putting away mountain instead but I'm feeling so positive about how much has got done!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I'm concentrating on cleaning the kitchen today. A real proper deep clean. Not done so badly, only the windows in/out and floor to mop. I actually really can't be chewed to clean the oven so I'm not!
I have put the 'pants mountain' (it is too!) on my bed ready for sorting. I must do it today.0 -
Afternoon messies, well done on all the fab acheivements over the weekend!
Welcome FuddleLaurel don't worry about what anyone else thinks. They only think they could do better if they were in your shoes - doing better is a different matter entirely
I am with Em in a pickle, I never iron anything unless I absolutely have to. And even then I sometimes still don't bother. I make sure I put the washing machine on the right programme for the load eg mostly cotton or synthetic, and I give it a good shake when I hang it to dry, works a treat. It then gets crumpled in the basket waiting to be put away, but hey ho you can't win 'em all :rotfl:
I have managed to put the basket of clean washing away, but the laundry bin is full again so it won't be long before there's another pile in the corner!
I also went to the post office and posted some eBay sales. A grumpy old man got in the queue behind me and exclaimed 'humph look at all those parcels!!' and stropped off  still that is another box of useless old tat out of the way. Just a shoebox full of things didn't sell this time, will take them to the charity shop next time I'm in town.
I am going back to work on Weds. I will be doing a phased return, but I'm not looking forward to it. Roll on Sept and maternity leave so I can carry on clearing my house out before le bebe arrives, that's what I say!I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

I'm loving the fact that its not raining at the moment. Put 2 loads in the washing on Saturday morning, hung them on the line and then went away to a friends wedding leaving washing on the line. Came home Sunday afternoon to dry washing, put another 2 loads in and hung them out Sunday night. Hoping to come home from work to more dry washing. Its like some sort of miracle or something! Helps living in a nice neighbourhood now - at my last house I'd never leave washing out when I left the house for fear of never seeing it again!
Was feeling ever so proud of myself for getting dishwasher unloaded last night after it finished and putting supper pots in the machine so that I could wake up to an empty clean kitchen. Was dismayed this morning to realise OH needs to learn that I'm developing a new habit - his teacup and breakfast pots were just left on the side as usual despite there being an empty DW just waiting to receive them!
And because I was particularly p*'d off by that this morning, I put my own pots away and left his untouched. How much are you willing to bet that they'll still be there when I get home from work tonight, along with his lunch pots?!0 -
dogstarheaven wrote: »i came across this book called 'Speed Cleaning' (something like that) which I originally borrowed a few months ago and altho' I had earmarked it as a keeper, I wanted to buy a copy as I really found it useful to know that you can get into a system of working out a priority list for the week, and using essential equipment/cleaners. Now that the book has been in my possession for the past month, I haven't even opened it, let alone making use of it!
Maybe you could post the odd quote from the book on this thread to inspire us all!0 -
I had a sort out of one of my wardrobes yesterday by taking out winter boots and putting them in the loft. I then vacuumed the bottom of the wardrobe and put in boxes of sandals from the loft. I also put away winter scarves tidily in a drawer and threw away a couple of old jumpers. I also vacuumed on top of the wardrobe and vacuumed the bedrooms as well. It doesn't sound much but it was very satisfying.
Apart from two loads of washing and some ironing, the only other thing I did was sort out some stuff ready for a car boot sale next weekend.
Hope you are all having a nice day.0
