YL I'm wishing hard that things go well for your son too! xxx ((huge hugs))

laurel - you're nuts! :P J/k, it's probably a great idea. I'd never do it though, takes me a week to get things in order enough to let a mate in :D

jacksmummy - what do you mean you've done nothing?? YOU PAINTED A SHED FOR PETE'S SAKE!!!:T:T:T

Well - it's one of those annoying days, I'm expecting a workman between 12 and 5 (to replace the electric meter) and can't settle to anything while I'm waiting. Also on edge because with the leccy being off, I won't have my usual "workmen in the house" props - the tv and pc - and will feel awkward :(

Seem to have meandered around the flat a lot today but haven't actually done anything much - a few dishes, some towels in the washing machine, binned some little bits of carp which were on the pc desk (:j) - when I think about it, I've mostly been going between the food cupboard/fridge and the computer, picking at food. Mornings are the pits when I'm giving up the fags. If anyone reads the Agatha Raisin books, my usual breakfast used to be like hers - 4 fags and 3 cups of coffee!! :o It definitely gets easier as the day goes on :)

love and hugs all - it's good to be back (even though I burnt DS's first tea yesterday through being back and getting caught up in things!) xx

Loving this thread, and loving UFYH too.

I am quite a tidy person, but not in a structured way, I attack things at random, once they start to bother me and also when stressed or bored, there's no plan to it and I usually miss the things that really need doing...

Mess stresses me out but I do not enjoy cleaning!

What has made me feel better lately about the constant mess is making sure the beds are made each morning.

My ex husbands' great gran used to say if you do nothing else, make the beds and wash the dishes and your house will never look that untidy.

I just had a clean up in the upstairs bathroom. I took the glass cleaner with me to do the mirror, so while I was up there I did the mirrors in the bedrooms, too. So when you move a cleaning product around, do everything in that area at once!

I think the reason we don't have washing machines upstairs is probably to do with the way our living conditions have evolved. Toilets used to be outside; then they moved inside downstairs, and in many houses, are still. So there is no water outlet in the upstairs part of the house, and they are expensive to put in. When the first bathroom was put upstairs, it was probably such a novelty that no one thought to lay water pipes to other rooms, and it is probably quite expensive. Things like ensuites where multi-water outlets are needed upstairs are quite a new concept - at least in the average house. If you live in a palace, it would be quite different I expect!

Its mainly about good organising which is easier said that done. For us (3 of us) the basics work by:

    In evening:
Put WM on timer for 6.30am
    Dishwasher as above
Get any stuff needed out freezer for dinner next day
    Kitchen clear before going up

    In morning:
Empty WM to line or TD
Veggies are peeled whilst breakfast getting sorted for dinner
DD empties DW and puts dirty stuff back into DW
    Make sure kitchen sorted/wiped down
To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,
    requires brains!

Untidiness stresses me out. I dont mind cleaning but i hate having to move stuff that people dont put away as it makes it twice as hard.

    Hi Messies!
Yorkshirelass - stay brave lass, hope your DS`s treatment works well!
Laurel - at least if the weather`s fine on your staff do day you`ll impress your colleagues with the garden work you`ve done!

Re slippers, etc., I just LIVE in `support-shaped sole` flip-flops unless it`s a `dress up` outing, or work, or very wet outside!
OH, on the other hand, is the Always Fully Shod type, and cannot understand my need for bare toes!!! DGD favours walking round in her socks, even outside sometimes(grrr!)and DS is barefoot indoors at all times.

On the Messy front -not much done today.
I made a stonking good curry last night, aided by a few glasses of wine (for me, not the curry) and left the pots etc till this morning. So this am cleared up the mess I`d left...
Been to farm shop, also got village bakery bread & baps that I`d remembered to order (they go very fast!) plus DD`s fruit/veg/bread & delivered hers, & put mine away.
Had 2 long chats with a couple of neighbours I hardly ever see.
Had long phone chat with DD who rang just to say `ta` for farmshop stuff.....
`Planned` tonight`s meal & changed my mind 3 times already...
Not what I`d call a `wasted` day at all, but not productive or inspired either.
Still feel I want to do `one more thing` - something to feel good about -
but can`t somehow decide what and get going at it!
I`ll head for the kitchen & force myself to decide & start supper prep, then maybe start something else...
    Drags self off to kitchen...

I've got to admit I'm usually in the barefoot/socks at all times - even outside - camp; I have been known to hop from dry patch to dry patch to get to the outdoors bin to avoid putting shoes on! I do love shoes but having wide feet limits me and makes most things either uncomfortable, unattractive or expensive :(

I'm not doing anything bar essentials tonight, so cooking and washing up. Intending to have a really busy weekend to keep myself from getting under B's feet; so..er...resting up tonight :P Might fire off some job applications.

YL - I hope your son gets through ok *hug*

As an aside - I can't remember who said taking shoes off was the best part of their day, but for me it's the moment I finally get to take my bra off!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time

MessyMare - good luck with the jobs thing. I`m with you on the `finally` taking off bra, too! Some years back I worked in a nursing home, and one of my darling ladies (then in her mid-90`s) had a regular bed-time routine. She`d settle into her pillows, ask for her hand mirror... and with it she`d smile, adjust her hairnet...then ask us to put the mirror well out of her reach. THEN, out came the dentures! (It was vanity that kept her going, and she was still flirting at the GP up to the week before she died!)

    Messy-wise...
I DID finally get going this afternoon! DGD (my own dear little messy mare) here for weekend, strolled in after school in very helpful mood....
TOGETHER, we moved mountains (well, almost...) We had a proper `girly` time of it, joint effort at tidying her room, sorting washing/putting her clean stuff away and making supper.
She fancied veggie spag.bol., so I let her prep all the veg, had loads of tomatoes/peppers/courgettes. (I did the onionBTW, & she cried anyway) Roasted in lots of olive oil, in the biggest oven roaster I own. I let her splat & peel the garlic (2 whole bulbs) & it made a HUGE panfull, zapped into thick sauce. I let her chop a big bunch of parsley, & pick & chop basil & marjoram. She is actually far safer with my chinese cleaver now than any of the menfolk around here! Got the knack of chop & scoop, and can be trusted NOT to touch it unless it`s ME in the kitchen with her. While she was busy, I was making herby spicy pork-mince Big Fat Meatballs - more like soggy burgers really, with 2 packs of whoopsie pork mince.
Some of the `spag.bol` roast veg sauce went over the pork Things, & back in low oven to fester. Some went on spaghetti. DGD had THREE helpings, so pleased she was with her efforts. OH had seconds of the porky things/spag & sauce, praised DGD`s sauce, DS had seconds of same & also praised DGD`s sauce. I did NOT have seconds...but we`ll not discuss the amount I shifted as I ended up with mine in a casserole dish as all the other stuff was in use!
And after all that praise was when DGD decided to have her 3rd helping,
and I said it`s ok because she`s not visiting Rabbit this evening & won`t have to crawl out of a rabbit hole in the morning or starve for a week!
She crawled off to bed, pleased, proud, & giggly, with her own new design on her pyjama top which will probably never wash out.
    Fine.
There`s still a load of sauce to either use soon or freeze, and 2 of the pork Things that can be used in baps as burgers or frozen.
I had to cook a second batch of spaghetti, but no problem with that.
Normally, when I cook a lot of stuff in one go, OH says` when are the other 28 people you cooked for coming?` Tonight, he didn`

spal bol sounds good Emm, which is a weird thing to say at 7 in the morning! I am awake so early due to puppies needing garden time....they are annoyed with me tho, as I put them in the (HUGE) pen rather then letting them run everyone and leaving the back door open for ages at a time (like mum does and then is constantly cold) Mum had a heart procedure yesterday, an angioplasty so I am keeping a watchful eye over her aside from an early trip to Sainsburys today I am at home de messying.hopefully.

currently i have a headache and am so tired! Have also agreed to collect a homeless guinea pig on Sunday, for me it is going to be a long pain in the !!!! journey and the woman who is meeting me for the next part of the journey doesn't seem to understand that! but in theory it should be ok so long as I get up super early on Sunday~(which I will do due to puppies) By then Mum and I will have driven each other nuts so it will be good for both of us to get some time apart.

Due to bil having emergency re heart (is ok now thankfully) I had to cancel this weekend's date which is a shame cos one seems so nice. But hopefully they will reschedule!

Hope all is well in the land of the Messies. Make sure everyone has a nice cup of tea at some point and chills out. It is just "stuff", we can beat "stuff"!
    Nevertheless she persisted.

    Morning all

Chez Cheapskate is still as messy as the last time I posted, but my hallway (that DS cleared out) is STILL tidy - needs a hoover but that's all. I must be getting better, because by now it would have become a dumping ground again (maybe I'm too scared of DS to dump stuff! :D).

Got to go to work in an hour, so no tidying until this afternoon, but hope to get ALL the ironing done and put away today, and sort through all the toys in the front room. Got to do it today as DS is threatening to just bag up stuff he considers junk and take to the tip!

Off to feed the babies, have a good tidying Saturday everyone! :)

    A xo
