My home is a mess

Today has gone surprisingly well for me
Had a super busy day at work and really worked up a sweat helping to sort out the jubilee displays; cooked him indoors dinner (and I had a craving for spaghetti on toast, which I enjoyed greatly) cleared up the garden (flippin dog), washed up, and joggled up and down the garden, doing two more lengths than I did yesterday in the same time (so at least I know I'm running at the same speed each time rather than just getting slower :P)
Aaaand breathe! Still haven't sorted through my old clothes but I've got a whole weekend off, so I'm hoping small strides will be made there
*hugs* to all

Do first what only needs doing once. If you've binned or bagged some clutter, or finished a DIY job, you'll never have to bother with it again. When you mop your floor, it will need doing again tomorrow...and you'll be no further on.
Also, we live in an age of wonder. Washing machine, dishwasher, dryer...set them running and be grateful we aren't our grandmothers!import this0 -
ps has anyone else ever wondered why we have washer and dryers downstairs (even in basements!) when our clothes are usually kept upstairs? It's a lot of up and down-ness, isn't it?
The only downside to getting them put in the bathroom or similar upstairs is the noise I guess? And I suppose for line drying.. Ah yes. That probably answers that one.
Lots of houses in Europe have their washing machines upstairs, when we renovated our house I made the old airing cupboard into a mini utility room with stacking washing machine and dryer. I rarely line dry so this works for me.0 -
Hello all,
I do the flylady ones, and I'm not scary I promise!
I don't always get them all done, but I never worry about it as each room comes around next week. I've been doing it since feb and honestly it's easy peasy now as most areas are reasonable, so if I have an off day and do bog all, the world doesn't stop turning!
Having said that, we are all different, so a hug from this flutterer to all you messies, I live with two tiny little messies! My tips would be use up your waiting time. Waiting for the kettle? Empty a few bits from the dishwasher. Waiting for the bath to run? Have a little wipe around the sink and loo. Also, have a "stuff" basket. Anything that gets left lying around, chuck it in the basket. Then once or twice a week, spend 15min rehoming it all.
And chill, there are more important things in life

Well I forced myself to wash the landing and stair carpet, washed the rug in the family room, mopped family room floor, mopped kitchen and the hall. The dirt that come out of the carpets!!. The hall and family room smell fresh now instead of dog and cat.
Iv done the morning and tonights dishes. OH has sort of fixed the machine but you have to put them on a seperate spin.
The cat and dog hairs seem to grow every day. I had to unblock two of my many hoovers, Im ashamed to say I collect them. Dont know why I have a passion for them. It used to be prams when my dd was little.
Glad to see everyone getting on with things.0 -
OH has gone down to his mum's tonight. I had high hopes for doing stuff while I've got the house to myself. Ended up having to do some work work which my boss (in a very apologetic way) sprung on me last thing for first thing in the morning and since then I've been on t'interweb instead of being useful! Bet he's home again tomorrow before I find the motivation to get anything done ;-)0

Laurel, I'd rather eat my own feet than invite my work colleagues round to my house! I'd die of embarrassment. I'm quite quirky (or eccentric perhaps) after a long while of living on my own and I think some of what's become quite normal to me would seem bizarre to them!
Cat, I can't bear wearing shoes in the house. As soon as I get home I change into comfy crocs. With those and my home made fleece ponchos I look - well, interesting. I have to take off the poncho when I go to put something in the bin to avoid frightening the neighbours.
JPS - You made me laugh! When I get home from work I love getting out of my work clothes and shoes and putting on my dressing gown and slippers - bliss. It's really annoying if the OH says one of his family's popping round and I then have to go and get dressed! Your home is your sanctuary isn't it and after a particularly trying day I don't want to be disturbed by visitors or telephone calls.
I did say I was going to do my filing on Tuesday but I have to confess that all I've done since Tuesday onwards is cook the evening meal and wash up. I've spent my time catching up on episodes of The Bridge instead - much more pleasurable.0 -
I've done hardly anything this last few days!
DH has been putting a lean to up just outside the back door so I have had a job keeping up with all the mess that keeps being walked into the house.
Yesterday I painted the shed and touched up the garden table & chairs so I've marked those off my to do list.
Today I plan to
Have a quick tidy round
sort the garden out, put some runner beans in and mow the lawns.
Also got to sew DS's badges on to his Beaver uniform.
Hope you all have a lovely day.0 -
I'm relieved that this thread ended up with some positive responses..... I was worried for a while.
Some good tips there guys. I, too have persuaded my teen that odd socks can be cool!
My wee tv and cupboard in my bedroom seems to attract the dust so easily...... I literally can dust it and 5 mins later it looks dusty again! I have some old holey socks beyond repair in the sock drawer under the TV. So, out one comes, a quick dust over and then it can just get chucked down the stairs to join the rest of the washing!
This morning I was pulling back the curtains in the LR and the sun was streaming in and showing the dust on the Telly. A quick wipe with the sleeve of my old jumper that I'm going to be gardening in later.... Done!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Morning all
Thanks Cat, things are pretty much the same with my son. He has been really poorly for the last few weeks and had the first part of his new treatment in hospital yesterday. He is home now but we need to keep a close eye on him for the next couple of days (hard not to keep asking him if he feels OK every five minutes!). Then back in two weeks to do it all again. After being really scared of all the risks I was OK when we got there and just hoping and praying now that it works.
Feeling tired and just a bit fed up this morning. Just cant seem to get on top of things in the house - even though I am home all day. I do a bit a voluntary work from home and I need to do some work on that today. Maybe doing something productive will make me feel better.
laurel - you are so brave. I would never open up my house to a load of people from work. But then again why should we be ashamed of our houses? I think we spend too much time trying to live up to the ideal of those show homes you see on the telly.
Right - off to give my son a poke and check to make sure I get a grunt out of him then a shower and out of the jim jams I think!0
