She has to put all her toys away each night before bed and any she doesn't are removed but i've told her after a couple of weeks they won't be removed and returned they'll be binned . Only did it a few days ago and it's lovely not having to walk around toys to cross the floor . She helps her uncle empty the bins and the dishwasher and she checks every saturday if any of the toilet roll holders need refilling . First few days she moaned now she wants more jobs lol.
Well i've sorted out 2 cupboards and filled up the new unit with stuff that was cluttering up the kitchen. I've painted 3 walls in the kitchen about 2/3rds of the way up and sweet talked my 19 yo son into finishing the top for me so just 1 wall left to do and i have wallpaper for that hopefully tomorrow or friday. I binned loads of stuff and have nothing left that's out of date and when i open the cupboards i can see what i want straight away i have tidy ones not cluttered ones.
I think my slackness has rubbed off on them and I haven't been consistant in getting them to do jobs, like you say they will moan at first but soon get used to it, I'm on a mission! Mine are 10, 7 and 3 little one is a bit of a dreamer, he starts tidying then finds a toy he hasnt seen for a while and that's it!0 -
Hi Everybody,
Can I please join too? I find it so hard to keep the house tidy. It is difficult to balance everything out, like working, keeping on top of laundry, helping my two teenager sons with homework, trying to make good home cooked food, remembering where and who to take to different activities after school, tutoring and my studying for an OCR course, garden, cleaning house, hoovering, putting stuffaway when I get it out.
My mum was not very organised either although everything was always tidy on the surface, but if you opened a cupboard everything fell out and you could never find anything. I now to keep a limit on what comes into the house, I love jumble sales but make sure I throw something away if something comes in. Also trying to keep on top of plastics and recycling helps.
I also try to look at what I have got already instead of buying more stuff. At the weekend we moved lots of pictures round the house just to give it a fresh look.
Does anyone watch thet show on Sky Bio about Hoarders? I can really sympathise with them. It is a clinical condition, but I do feel as though I have tendencies that way, so it helps me think about how bad it could get if I don't try to keep on track of it all.
I have rambled a bit here, At least there are other people out there too who feel like me too.
Thanks0 -

Sounds just like my hubby!
Hello everyone. I've been following this thread since it started and it's been very motivational.
The biggest problem I have is hubby. He's the messiest person in the world and he has a lot of *stuff*. <rolls eyes>
Seriously, currently in the living room (and this is just a small portion of his mess) there is a printer in front of the settee, a pair of boots, a monitor in the middle of the floor, a pc power supply near said monitor, a large briefcase, camera tripod, rockband drum kit, various computer cables, loads of magazines (his), a voice changer Transformers helmet (his-don't ask!) and a multitude of other things.
I've given up in the living room. Last year he went away on a course for work for 5 days and I had a good clear out, moved the furniture around and painted the fireplace wall. I dumped all his loose stuff in a large box. It took me the whole week to do it and it looked lovely.
It only took about a week after he'd got back for it to start resembling a tip again. <sigh>
He has a pile of clothes in the bedroom, a mix of clean and dirty, that get moved from the bed to a chair and back again. I can't put the clean stuff away because the chest of drawers is on his side and the floor is covered in more stuff. So much so, that I risk breaking my neck.
However, the kitchen is my space, so I manage to keep that pretty tidy and I've just decluttered the sideboard in the dining room so that's looking nice now.0 -
I started so well this morning thinking I was going to be out today but I managed to get in earlier than 1st thought
I hoped to get the fridge cleaned but I got side tracked by my sewing machine then I painted some coat hooks I have madebefore I knew it I had to pick up DS from school
When I had my 1st home I used to srub it from top to bottom every day and still had time to play with my 2 boys now Im lucky if I get time to hoover through. My mum used to say to me the older you get the fast time goes and she wasn't wrong
Gingervampmy OH is my pain when I ask have a moan about the clutter he just says it's not his clutter but I have asked his so many times if he will put some shelves up for me and also trying to get him to put his dirty washing in the wash basket not on the floor
Im off to work in a bit then I have work Thurs and Fri day time too so no more attempts at cleaning till the weekend now
Hope everyone is having a good dayGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

My OH seems to have no concept of what a bin is for - throwing anything away doesn't seem to be within his ken. Dishwasher is still not emptied, and I might as well do it myself. I think this is one thing that gets me down, I tidy, clean etc and it makes no earthly difference as OH just dumps stuff anywhere.... rant over.
Well will be starting work hopefully about mid May, so only have a week or so to get some semblance of order to the house. I think I will have a good filing session this evening, will put Queen on the cd player to inspire me.
Washing is now done last lot is on the line drying now, so hopefully finished for a bit. Redid my sink pond with new liner and it's not looking too bad, so will take some pics asap. I am a hoarder, especially books, clothes and paperwork. Have made a start by recycling all the extraneous paperwork (leaflets etc) and the pile has shrunk by nearly half.
I subscribe to Quentin Crisps theory of dusting "after six months the dust doesn't get any thicker". Am getting better though as study is now nearly dust free. Sorry for long ramble.
All power to the messies!!!0 -

Thanks guys... id love to be able to use a play pen but i know she wouldnt play in one she would just scream untill i took her out....i did however put her back in her bedroom this afternoon and shut the stairgate so i could get cleaned up again. But yet again it looks like i havnt bothered!
I think i have finally seen sence in that i will let them play 'trash' the house during the day, then once there in bed i will have a mad hour cleaning the living room back up so i can sit in it while its kinda tidy...even if it only lasts till morning lol then i can concentrating on sorting my junk piles while she makes a mess lol. I might get somewhere in the end then lol
Rigsby....you are totally right, it just does my head in sometimes and you can guarentee that the min she has ragged everything out in the living room and im looking like a bomb has exploded several times over, will someone turn up at the door just to embarrass me, i find myself apologising before they have even got through the door
Ahh im sorry, im feeling very hormonal today and everything is getting to me, i think once kids are in bed tonight ill have a quick pick up of tiys then sit and watch a girly film, have a good cry eat some chocolate and ill feel loads better lol0 -

Hello Messies new and old - Ill add all you newbies later on as I am only here for a wee hello and then I will get on.
I am pooped and achy which is starting to get me down a little. I have decided that I will do the min tonight - wipe round the bathroom and kitchen and then put some washing away. I have a few bits and pieces to do but I have only just sat down after a busy day at work and the way I am feeling is if I do too much I will struggle tomorrow. I think I will have a bath and an early night and hope that this passes.
Everyone seems to be getting on brilliantly - again for those who are beating themselves up for only doing one or two tasks a day - little and often does make a difference!!!0
