    Morning

Still managing to keep the house (downstairs anyway!!) neat and tidy. It is such a pleasure to come downstairs in the morning and to see it looking that way particularly with the sun shining in.

Trouble is i live on a main road and the house is a small terrace house where you step straight from the path into the front room, so the dust and dirt from the cars etc is constant, and both my daughter and I have long hair which seems to moult all the time!

    Good morning messies :D
I have been good this morning :D I have the washing machine on also the dishwasher (my mucky lot forgot to put it on when I was at work last night :()
I have even cleaned my PC screen :rotfl:

Im the same as you tenmah :o I live next to a busy road and some days I just watch clouds of dust blowing up and think that is going into my house :( so I tend not to bother dusting as it's going to look as bad in 5 mins after doing it, drives me nuts though :(
Not going to get much more done today as its a busy running around day again but catch you all later :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

Morning all - ironing took me 10 mins this morning. That was after 3 loads of washing done yesterday. Still have some in the basket upstairs but tackling that slowly.
DH cleared the understairs cupboard yesterday, so I don`t have that to do.
DS moved his stuff from kitchen.
    This must be catching.
I can`t believe that instead of sitting in front of TV or PC last night I got up and cleaned the bathroom. What is happening to me?
Still got loads of clutter to clear though and loads of cleaning. Don`t even start me on the curtains. Our bedroom and spare bedroom curtains are covered in cat hairs.
I`ll have to brush them before I take them down to be washed. I just can`t face taking them down.
    Have a good day everyone.

Hoovered the bathroom floor should now wash it but bending makes me sick so not sure.

Wish I had a dish washer. My kitchen is so small could not fit one in, OH does the dinner stuff as I cook but I would love a dishwasher. Bet I would empty it, bet I would...

*hug* I know what you mean about the dishwasher! It's my dream!

About bending for the floors, why don't you try a good mop and bucket. I bought the microfibre ring-out mop and bucket from Lakeland just before Christmas and it has literally made a big difference in the amount of effort required in cleaning the floors. I don't hate it any more and we have hardfloors throw the entire house! And you just through the mop head into the washing m/c when you're done. Much better!

The Letting Agent is coming tomorrow for our quarterly inspection. I'm sure he must see much worse in other houses, but it's the first time I won't feel too ashamed of the state of the house :o

In my attempt to clean everything, I destroyed the carpet in the bedroom :( Well, not really destroyed, but the vacuum is so powerful that it lifted a corner of the carpet, and now it looks weird  I will have to ask my friend to see if he can do something, and in the mean time, I will try to hide it from the agent. If it can't be repaired, then of course DH and I will put a new carpet in.

If you can't fix it, you shouldn't have to replace the entire carpet, but a portion of the cost only. Have a look at the House Buying, Renting, Selling forum here on MSE and check out wear & tear rules.

    Not to worry (too much)!

    Morning ladies and gents,

Just wanted to say I enjoy reading this thread, really nice to see so many people encouraging each other! :p

I'm lucky enough to live in a pretty organised house now which makes things easier to keep tidy each day but I have to admit it was a long time coming and took a lot of work. I was where you all are now about a year and a half ago. It *was* worth the effort and much happier home to live in now. We did have some help from a cleaning friend who we hired for a couple of months (2hours a week) and got the place repainted. Definitely worthwhile and much simpler to manage the cleaning now as a result, plus no arguments with the boyfriend on who has to do what cleaning tasks. We also gave a lot of things away via Freegle and Realcycle - brilliant that folks even collect things from your house that way. Other stuff we passed on to our local refugee centre and to the Women's Domestic Violence Refuge. Try to keep them in mind for useful, good-condition items that you no longer need.

And with that, I'm off to do the hoovering on this sunny morning. Always makes me happier when I don't see little bits all over the hard floors, nicer on the feet too!

    *hugs!* :T stay positive!

please may i join in, my house is very messy too.
i suffer from severe depression, and a lack of motivation is a real issue, also live with my two sons who have severe ADHD, who make more mess than anyone could imagine, and will not do anything to tidy up, or clean.
my house is so bad that i've even considered moving to a smaller place once the boys have left home, so i would find it easier to keep clean.

    Welcome sock-knitter :j

Dust is the bane of my existence. I hate it and I hate dusting. We don't live near a busy road but we have the pets and the hay (for the pets) And the carpeting throughout (even in the kitchen!!!!) doesn't help.

Same here, I realised yesterday that the inside of our curtains were coated with cat's hair :o She spends ages sitting on the windowsills and is moulting like crazy...

    Morning everyone

I've decided to come out of lurkdom and join you all properly, I've been following from the start and have also been doing some of the tips on here - commercial break cleaning, taking something up with me when I go upstairs etc. I have to say that I can notice the difference already!
My problem is that I'm bone lazy. I tried flylady forum for quite sometime and whilst the ladies on there are lovely and very supportive I felt that I was failing every day cos I couldn't keep up with them - my issue, not theirs.
Its really nice to know that others struggle too, I'd much rather be reading a book or doing the garden or lottie than doing housework but, like others, its getting me down. DH id wonderful and would live in a pit as long as me and the kiddies were with him so he's not bothered at all about the mess.

Anyway, enough gabbing, because of this thread I have cleaned the bathroom from ceiling to floor and am keeping it clean, I am washing clothes etc daily and ironing a bit everyday too. I have fleabayed loads yesterday and intend to keep up with that and send stuff that doesn't sell after a couple of goes to the CS.

Today I have WM x 2, DW x 2, taken ironed things upstairs, watered plants, put recycling out - its not the daily stuff I have issues with its the other carpy jobs I can't be bothered with - I think its time I did a Toots list on here and then maybe that would inspire me to do the bloomin jobs

Thanks for letting me ramble on - you are all very inspirational [sp?] and funny

Thanks miaomiao :) I will have to look into that :) But according to DH, it's only a questions of replacing the iron bit at the bottom of the door, that holds the carpet into place (I don't know how it's called!). I was a bit worried yesterday!

Hello Helen Jelly :) This thread has been of great help to so many people because we didn't have to feel embarrassed about our messy houses. I had been struggling with housework for quite a while and was tired of pretending that my house wasn't that bad... Well it was a messy house, still is a messy house, but baby steps by baby steps, it's getting better.

And your house will get better too! :D
