oh help - again I can't remember anything - congrats on the new dog snookey! And Emm, thanks for your kind words :) xx

Jacci - hope it all went well today. xx

    Happy Anniversary soupdragon :) xx

Have done nowt again except go to Mr A, buy lots of food, and come home too exhausted to cook any of it:o Tomorrow I'm going to DS's dad's flat with his gran to pick out any clothes and shoes DS would wear. Not really looking forward to that at all.

Meds have been pushed up again to max dosage so hopefully that will give me a boost in a few days time. Fingers crossed!

    Hugs to all xxx

eta DD1 made a big mistake tonight and told me about this site...http://www.everything5pounds.com/ - some quite nice stuff and I can see myself going a bit mad when I lose some weight!

I was trying to explain this to a woman at my work who wants a kitten. She says she will train it to use toys and not scratch any of her things.

    Train. A Cat...

    I wished her luck!

Well, actually I think it is possible to train cats but you have to sneak it past them by making them think that's what they wanted all along. For example I "trained" my cat not to scratch the sofa by putting a sisal scratching post.... in front of the sofa! :rotfl:

  • Hi everyone, loving all the animal stories, makes me feel quite jealous, I would like a dog but OH says I have got enough to cope with and he is probably right!

I am sitting about 2 feet away from our multi-fuel stove which is stacked up with coal. The rest of the house is freezing and I am trying not to have the heating on. Have hit on a cunning idea - me and DS will do some baking then I have an excuse to get the oven going!

Have washed the car (couldnt see out of the windows yesterday it was that bad!). Need to put the ironing away but that means going upstairs and its cold! Floor still needs mopping but no point if we are going to be baking. Excuses excuses ....

Ah well, its time to get some dinner now so will think about doing something productive after that! Have a good day everyone x

I tend to think that cats train us, not the other way round. Our little madam stares at OH, willing him to sit on the sofa. He does so, and she climbs onto his lap - for all of 3 minutes. She then gets off, stands at his side, and taps at his rear end, with increasing claw pressure until he moves. She then curls up in the warmed up spot. He falls for it every time! :rotfl:

Cleaned the bathroom earlier, and have vacuumed the lounge and kitchen, and will be doing the bedrooms and bathroom in a mo. Actually, the spare room has so much 'stuff' on the floor, that there's not much to vacuum. Good, huh? ;) I think we're getting the idea, YL, don't you?

SoupDragon - Happy Anniversary for yesterday. And those little Maddie purrs must be music to your ears!
Adela & Bearcub - We humans definitely do NOT `train` cats. We may domesticate them, and earn their trust, but that is not `training` them. Even the most domesticated pampered cats still retain a little bit of wild in them, something aloof and dignified - and I think that is why they are so fascinating. One of my all-time favourite stories is Kipling`s "The Cat that Walks by Himself" from the Just-So stories. I`ve read it aloud SO many times, to my kids & grandchildren that I almost know it by heart. EVERY cat-lover should read this story at least once!
JPS - that is merely Obstructing the cat, not training it!

It`s freezing cold here too. I`ve kept the heating on, as we`re all home today & up and about. I`m making the best of it by having done SIX loads of washing, and the place does quite resemble a Chinese laundry. I`ll get the fire going in the LF soon, & do more drying on the fireguard (nursery-type).
Have booked the chimney sweep for tomorrow morning, so want to get LR at least clear of drying.
Chicken curry for supper, as Farmshop had fresh coriander & mint. I make a `sort-of` raita using mayo instead of yoghurt, and it works quite well.

ps. Daftie-dog has spent several longish spells outside today, rolling on her back on the concrete, and then coming indoors to snuggle back onto her bed. We can`t help thinking this behaviour is a bit like the `Eeyore`story with the burst balloon and the empty honey-pot! Anyway, the bed has been vacant enough times for Puss to get in it but she hasn`t bothered at all. Perhaps this is because it already smells very doggy.

Hi Emms. Bitter cold here, too. I've been taking photos of birds over the last two days, but only for a while. Can't operate the camera properly with gloves on, and my hands just freeze! SIX loads of washing?! I've nowhere to hang more than one load, until I can hang it outside without it turning into ice.

I've never come across a cat that could be 'trained'. They cooperate with us occasionally, that's all. :):) We've had 5 cats in all, and it was the only male that was totally biddable - we could do anything with him, without him showing tooth or claw. He just knew he could trust us, and knew he'd landed firmly on all 4 paws.

oh god - sorry Messies, here to moan again - just had neighbour downstairs up, apparently they have a bubble in their bathroom ceiling below my bath as if I have a leak, will need to get someone out but the place is such a bloody tip I can't - honestly I could just go out and get totally P***ed right now!

Oh Lord Cat501 you will need to get that sorted because it does damage to any of their stuff - i.e. the ceiling comes in then she might, just might, be looking to you! Bonus it's in their bathroom as well!

Cleaned house all the way through today. The bedding sheets I put out on the line and were as stiff as cardboard when I got them in. I was like that scene in One Foot In The Grave when Margaret Meldrew sees her washing cardboard like on her line as well :rotfl:the dogs bedding dried fine though!!

God R-D I know, I usually cope with domestic mishaps pretty well - mentally anyway! - but this honestly feels like the last straw at the moment! There's a stupid big wood panel at the side of the bath with huge slotted head screws which have been painted over so I can't even get into it right now. Got dad to look and see if he has a suitable screwdriver, hope he does 'cos then he'll come down and give me a hand and mum might even come too to help out with the tidying.

Sorry guys for going on :( xxx
