Laurel - TA's are highly under-rated in my opinion, they do the job of a Teacher alot of the time are underpaid and mostly treated badly. Nice to see you have the support of your Manager. Cry away and moan on here if you need to - we'll help out if we can, huge squishy hugs [] x

YL - good that you can now go ahead and sort the fence and shed out, we need to do outside our house this year too, I had great plans to get it dopne before Winter but never got off me butt and sorted it out, now it really. really needs doing so guess what we'll be doing this summer - painting!!

Cat - hope the hosp visit goes well

Wheres Frugal and the other messie renegades??

Hello newbies! Lovely to have you along :j Skirting boards... ah yes... I like to suck the dust off them with the hoover attachment, but only when it's built up nice and deep - so satisfying!

Laurel, so sorry you're having a crap time at work. I've had my fair share of that kind of thing but am very lucky with my job now. In education especially we can go through times when things are just awful, it only takes one difficult colleague or a very tough class, and life can be very miserable. The flipside is that often things are amazing and I feel like I have the best job in the world.

I'm not sure if you're working in learning support in Primary - if you are, have you considered Secondary? It's a much better environment to do supporting work in, I believe - of course it does depend on the school, very much - apologies if that's not the role you're talking about though. I know how hard it is to change jobs, especially in this current economy, but it sounds like you could be happier in a different school. How patronising of them to give you an HR pep talk

Cat, hope things go well for your DS with his dad... hope dad pulls through ok. I think a meet is a lovely idea but I'm not sure how I'll be fixed with my family circumstances, and of course finances. I'll try to pop over if I can.

Shashwoo I am so the same about energy when I get in at night. I am utterly exhausted after a day at work and just want to veg out in front of the telly (with laptop to read this thread of course :D)

I sometimes entertain ideas about doing a bit of decorating or housework or even crafts or something during the evenings, but that's just a daft daydream - I get in, wash, change into jammies, eat, flop, sleep... :o

    Love to all!

  • save dosh thanks for the great tips. well i have just had dinner and then decided to clean the kitchen and have gone through the cupboard under the sink and got rid of a few unused things, going to try doing at least 2 cupboards every day to get them back to shape to start with.

HELP!!!! I can't keep up with you all! I just can't remember all that I've read, partly because I've not been on here long enough to get a feel for who you all are. :(

Cat, I've read some of what you've been through, and you've dealt with things in the way you thought best at the time. That's all any of us can do. We can't go back and change anything, but what we can do is be confident that we'll do our best, for the best, in future. (If this isn't appropriate because I've not read enough, or misunderstood, I'm sorry.)

Laurel, I know of a senior teaching assistant who's in a similar situation but, in her case, the Head just keeps picking on her, and piling more and more 'stuff' on her. It seemed that most of the problems stem from inadequate leadership on the part of the head teacher. Is there a governor you could talk to, perhaps?

Shashwoo, I think you may be overdoing the cleaning a bit. Keeping skirting boards clean is a couple of times a year job in my book. There really are more important things to do ie meals, laundry and basic household cleaning. Get yourself one or two baskets to put your dry laundry in, fold it carefully as you take it out of the drier, and take care of it as and when necessary. Run the hoover around at weekends, unless you have visitors coming, and remember that dust tends to return as soon as you turn your back. ;) Whatever you do, don't make more work for yourself, or you'll go under or, at least, you'll feel as if you are. I've not been in this position for years, but I did learn to pace myself when I was, when I realised that I could never be Superwoman - and so should you. <hugs>

I've achieved absolutely nothing today, really, because I had to pick Mum up from the hairdresser this afternoon, then she expected me to go in and chat. Must sort out some washing for the machine for tomorrow, though.
  • hugs bearcub :) im exactly the same ... the posts come so quick on here, its easy to get confused :)

apparently they can get through a hole the width of a ballpoint pen, I don't quite know how.

It seems to defy logic! I don't have mice but I have pet rats, and even though one of them was an utter porker I think so long as the gap is no smaller than the size of their skull they can get through!

Don't worry :) The thread is moving faster than it has for a while now, I think we've got a right chatty bunch! That you're here is all that matters!

*hugs* Cat, I hope it's all gone ok tonight, and I'm glad it's looking a little brighter xx

    I can't stop crying.

We had some bloody HR consultant at work this afternoon. Just to tell us how loved and appreciated we are.

But I don't feel I am. I mean, I REALLY don't feel I am in any way that matters. (Apparently, I'm fabulous, hardworking and my year group don't know what they'd do without me...as long as I know my place). A lot of stuff has gone on, but I think the last straw was that my teacher was off last week, the school is completely cash-strapped, but they'd rather pay for some semi-useless stranger whose input had to be re-taught than let me lead. (Oh, we know you'd be really good at it, but we can't set a precedent). I can tick along most of the time while looking for somewhere or something else, but to have a whole hour of false supportiveness shoved down my throat has finished me off. I don't want to go to work tomorrow. I've been fighting back tears all afternoon, and now I'm scared I won't be able to stop them tomorrow. But I've been trying to get another job, and it feels like nobody will ever have me.

I think you could say the self-pity dial is set to high.

Laurel - I know its probably little comfort, but my DDs (5) absolutely adore their TAs and I know they will hold a special place in their hearts forever. A friend of mine was a dinner lady, then TA in primary, moved to secondary, then blagged a job at one of the local private schools and literally doubled her salary overnight!!! (you don't need to be a qualified teacher to work at those, believe it or not! And she teaches a non-academic subject)!!! So there is hope xx

Kitty, that is a wonderful photo! What mess? ;)
  • Oh I just realised my multi quote didn't work right! I just wanted to send huge hugs to Laurel, Fru is right, the TAs are the ones who stuck in my head after I left school, and there is always hope of something better :) Would it be possible for you to do 'on the job' QTS training? I'm not sure how it works but I'm sure I've read about it somewhere x

My house is still messy. Or possibly messier. I haven't done any housework today except kitchen stuff I always have to do, and moving things around so the BG engineer could get to things. He then flooded my house with 3 smoke bombs which if possible made it look even worse (and the gas fire still failed.).
