Morning everyone - had friends round last night so all 'public' areas were tidied up before they came -and after they left I really wanted to hit the hay but I forced myself to tidy up and clear up dishes etc - so coming downstairs this morning to a tidy LR, kitchen etc was lovely. Some of them are coming back to-day to collect their cars as they took taxis home so at least the place is tidy. Absolutely promising myself that 2012 will be the year I get my act together and keep at least kitchen, bathroom and LR presentable. Won't mind a bit of dust ....( am I backtracking already?) but will keep chairs, table, floors, work surfaces etc clutter-free. Will tackle computer desk now.Treat the Earth well,It was not given to you by your parents,It was loaned to you by your children.Masai proverb0

Laurel, I'd be honoured to visit your dwellinghouse at Chrimbo but am on roster elsewhere (GQ motto- will declutter for food).
Mum teasingly-promised I could HAVE A GO at the broom cupboard a couple of days ago. This is part of the understair area with a door which opens behind the kitchen door and can only be sorted by closing the kitchen and disembowelling the cupboard. We own many many dozens of dusters but all bar 2 are MIA and we assume the cupboard monster had eaten them. There will be other treasures and horrors in there, fer sure.
The washing machine did 5 loads yesterday then was critically-wounded by Mum dropping a bottle-brush down the chute where water conmes into the powder drawer. Brush outta sight and outta reach and machine may be terminal- we are awaiting call back from the friendly neighbourhood wm mechanic.
Frugal, I've been on that site for a long time now and it's excellent. He also has another called mnmlist and may I commend you to 365lessthings (sorry can't do those hideaway linkies).
I read minimalists' websites as a kind of house p0rn for when the clutter is a bit overwhelming.
I have sucessfully persuaded Maman to de-junk a couple of things to the c.s (already gone) and now am about to wash up some ornaments. You know, when the fluffiness is so acute that dusting just don't cut the mustard any more. I did mention we can't find the dusters, didn't I?:rotfl:

Oh, thriftwizard-I know. Books, toys, computer games...yesterday, DS saw or heard something about encouraging children to read...if you'd paid me to read, he said, grinning, I'd be rich...
I gave him a level look. I was, at that moment, packing up yet more boxes of childhood books (I sell them very cheaply at work-gets them into the hands of inner-city kids and raises money for the school garden fund).
If I hadn't encouraged you to read, I said, I'd be rich...
DS has a pile of games on his floor he's planning to take to trade in towards a game he *really* wanted for Christmas (his father accidentally bought him one with a very similar-sounding name) and he'll probably end up giving in a dozen games to get one back. If he's lucky...import this0 -
GQ - to do links... highlight the web address at top of screen, right click and copy, then paste into your post. Thats the simple way.
If you want to change it.... say www blah blah com then highlight it (once its pasted in post) and write HERE over the top... It will magically appear!!! Took me several years to figure it out!!!
I can even do multiquotes now! Click the speech bubbles next to "thanks" and "quote" each time you see a post you wish to reply to, then when you go "Post Reply" (not quick reply) Then, as if by magic they all appear :T
Hope that helps

Frugal, thanks for the technical info, I always wondered how to do that multiquote malarkey but was too idle to ask!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

True indeed. I aspire to minimalism. Never going to happen

*However* , irony has kicked in and I could now really use a shoebox. A couple of years ago I could have had a choice of colours and styles. Struggling now...you see, when you throw it out, you need it...import this0 -
so true Laurel!!
thanks for link Frugal, another excuse to procrastinate!:D
Have been to shops and put away last night's dishes but nothing else. LONGING to start shredding but dad not up for going to Mr T today so I'll have to wait
DD1 asleep on sofa
hate this creeping about! Sitting in near darkness doesn't help either, both bulbs gone in table lamps in LR now, another reason to go to Mr T (awkward bulbs, don't sell them at spar). Grrr - am impatient to get on but feel hampered!
Like Helen said, Rummer how are you???0 -
Hi Messies, just read last few pages to catch up..thanks for the many chuckles. After one day off I was working again yesterday (UTTER BL00DY CHAOS it was!! First `normal` day after bank holidays always is)
Now not working til 2nd Jan. Mad rushing about today trying to get DS off to his GF - still working on it. Will post later when I finally achieve this...0
