My home is a mess

  • Afternoon all

Just finished off another bout of present wrapping. Only the kids santa pressies to do. I needed to get the family ones done because we will swap them tomorrow. I still havent mopped that floor, hubby has nicked off with my mop bucket, excuses excuses. Maybe the dirty splodges will all join together if I leave it long enough and you wont be able to tell what colour its supposed to be!!!

Hope those feeling a bit under the weather are managing to take it easy. I am keeping this cold at bay with the help of the echinacea but have a feeling it will get me eventually. Helen, can you shut your eyes for half an hour? I find a power nap works a treat when I have one of those headaches.

So fellow messies, what do we do over Christmas? When do we put down our dusters and mops? Do we let our lovely abodes decline into total messiness for a week and then get back on with it or are we going to be very good and keep doing a little each day? One thing I miss with not working is the two weeks holiday I had every Christmas, the only time I knew my mobile wasnt going to ring.

Ah well, better go and sort the pressies into bags for collection tomorrow then find that mop bucket.

Thanks Helen :D Get well soon to you and all the other ill messies xx

Oh my goodness, all so busy and it was still AM!!! Well done everyone!:T Hi purpleheather (you've got me singing in my head with that name :)), reading here is as near as I get to getting started most days! jps sounds like you're on a mission, go girl!!:T

Last night before bed I ironed DS's uniform, cleaned the toilet and cleared rubbish out of bathroom. Then lay in bed for 5 hours unable to sleep, thinking of what I SHOULD be doing!

Today I forced myself to get up just after 1, ironed/put away DS's dry clothes, hung another lot up to dry, matched 4 pairs of socks out of a total of 19 odd ones, put yesterday's dishes away, put today's in to soak, then made a coffee and bowl no.6 of homemade lentil soup, and let myself come on here!:D

Plans - mop bathroom floor, maybe tackle the bath (aargh), squish those boxes I've been meaning to do for weeks, go to shops, make fritatta for tea, and sort out the clothes pile in my bedroom, which has appeared again and is taking over the floor :(

Have a good day everyone :) xxx

YL - I am hoping that DDs will be down at their dad's for a week over Christmas (though it's looking increasingly unlikely). That means I'll be able to sort the living room out properly with DD1 out the way, because her "bedroom half" of it is a complete mess. I hope to do a little each day, but I'm not promising anything:D

Afternoon All! Have finally torn myself away from the computer long enough to hoover the bedrooms, diningroom and stairs. Only took quarter of an hour! Am now basking in righteous glow!!

    You enjoy the glow beemuzed!:T:D

It seems so pointless hoovering my bedroom/hall/living room, the carpets are so filthy and stained it just doesn't make any difference:( Really need to decide whether to buy a new carpet cleaner or hire one over the holidays.
  • Cat, the shop called the factory outlet had a good offer on a carpet cleaner, was so close to getting one, 60 quid I think it was. I didn't have the sixty quid but we have beige carpets so I will have to at some point!

I have stalled. got to leave for doctors soon, have a clean hamster at least!
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Still got a rotten headache :(

I was v good last night and put everything in the SC to make leek and potato soup - just blended it, dished up a bowlful... and it is absolutely disgusting _pale_ Totally inedible. I have no idea why... I put exactly the same stuff in as I would in a saucepan... I am never, ever, ever making it that way again... its all going down the toilet once it cools down

Especially as I am feeling poorly, I was really looking forward to that soup... Damn... Now I am going to have to tidy the second half of the kitchen in order to make decent soup! I have loads more leeks thank goodness.

Promised the girls frikadella (hm, danish) with roast potatoes, yorkshires, veg and gravy for dinner so have no choice but to do rest of kitchen anyway, only to mess it up again cooking :rotfl: Still, I am really looking forward to a feast :D After all, it is that eating time of year :D

Got a dear friend (known for 33 years ) coming to stay Wed night so tomorrow will see much in the way of panic as I frantically get the house acceptable - luckily she is one of those really good friends that come to see 'you' not the house :T and as long as the fire is lit, and the food and wine are forthcoming, she will be one happy bunny :) We only see eachother a few times a year, so I am really looking forward to it.

I do much better when I have a deadline for getting everything spotless, altho I do move the goalposts a little as I get nearer and realise my ambitions were too high :o

:D I have the same light carpet in all those rooms, DDs were sensible and chose black, DS has dark blue, they're fine! I'm looking at how to fix the cleaner I've got on e-how, might take a day or two (!) over the holidays to try all the suggested fixes. And probably it will end up in a worse state than when I started:rotfl:

Boxes squished. Going to take them down to the bins now along with rest of recycling, then go to shops. Later, messies :)
