My home is a mess

  • Hello All

Frugal - hope that DD is feeling better this morning - and how fab that your neighbour cleared it all up, bless her!!

Our house is nothing short of a bomb site at the moment.... after having to move cupboards last week to get the carpets cleaned before Christmas (and consequently having to take all the carp out of said cupboards as they were too heavy to move), we now have bags of junk lying about the place that needs to be put away. Was originally going to do a bag at a time, but having to go in and out of the living room in the evening is not appealing to me at the moment as I'm trying to keep the room warm :o

Christmas decs are mainly up, but the string of lights for the windown are not done yet: I've lost my sticky tape in the mel!e of mess!

Doggy is in season and has been banished to the kitchen, looking a little bit sad :( so will give in there a thorough clean over the next few days. Hopefully she will be done by Xmas (season last year went on for about 9 weeks!!).

My bedroom is a heap as we had some work done in there a couple of weeks back and have never caught up, and there are piles of clean washing on every available surface in DS's room and the kitchen.

Now, where to begin with it all this evening (in between prep for a job interview!).........?

    MMM :)
The 2012 mantra - "A place for everything, and everything in it's place"
  • FRIDAY - sounds good...only I don`t feel very Christmassy yet.I`ll make the effort, & if I can get the stash of Christmas shopping that`s been done & is now in mixed shopping bags cluttering upstairs sorted at least into which stuff for which child I might be a lot happier by then.
Actually, I`ve just realised it`s Wednesday today & I thought it was Thursday, so that`s a boost! I`m off all week and now feel the days are going too fast! (When you work silly shifts it`s easy to lose track of what day it is - I`m not the only one, I know because sometimes when a patient asks what day it is we have to have a brief debate over the answer!)
Also it`s cheered me up already reading here. Well done those Messies who did some stuff, however small, and (HUGS) to all, especially new folks and poorlies & CBA folks this morning.

IRONING - glad to read here that some of you agree It Isn`t Necessary! I can never understand why so many poor souls (even Messies) think it is!

I`ve nothing to report here on the Messy front, feel lethargic despite winter sunshine this am., and am now snotty, achy, and lost taste & smell - did lamb hot-potty thing last night with leftovers as planned, I couldn`t taste it but OH loved it & had seconds, so worth the effort.
Tonight I`m making potato soup & a bit of pan-fried fresh salmon (OH was `off` salmon but now thinks he`d like it again after seeing my last guzzling of it!)
At some point I`ll decide what to do between now and this evenings meal....first another coffee & catch up on the Archers....Emm drags self away to kitchen..
  • Right-o.

I am sure somewhere in this mess of a house I will find my motivation.
Its hidden pretty well, so its going to be a difficult hunt.

I will start when I have finished my cuppa and report back on my progress, wish me well.:)
  • Morning.

I am going to the Doctors and the Dentist. got to post a letter and the pick up a coffee table........

Then its come back here and sort my life out.

there is a right !!!!!!!! on the tv talking about dating. Jeward are on the tv too. it is surreal.

    I am going out.

    xx
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Hello everyone, haven't had time to catch up but will eventually.
My house is still a mess. Spare room is full of bags with Christmas presents.
Kitchen/diner (which is also my office) is a complete tip. Magazine rack overflowing, table piled high with assorted jumble and also things to be returned to shops.
Bought some walkie talkies as part of my DGS birthday present. They don't work. Bought some christmas lights for the windows. They should stick to the window but when you put the batteries in them they are too heavy and fall off.
Now just have to find the receipt for the walkie talkies. Have found the one for the lights.
DH has spent the past two days painting the bathroom. Hopefully that will be finished later today. Just need to rehem the curtains, took them down to wash them and they have shrunk.
Also need to get sewing machine out and sew the door curtain for the hall. Have had the fabric for a year and still not got around to doing it.
Also have to remove everything from walls tonight. We are having cavitity wall insullation done tomorrow so need to take pictures/mirrors down in case of vibration.
Don't really know where to start and I'm feeling rough with a cold so that's not helping.
On top of that I have lots of work to get done.
    Sorry for the moan.

Cat so sorry about your dd loss. It sounds as if things are moving forward for her at least.

IRONING UGH !. The only time I iron is A, if its creased beyond body heat smoothing the wrinkles and when we go away. I have a strange need to iron all our holiday clothing before going away and still take an iron.

Had a disturbed night as oh has panic attacks when there is strong winds, goes back to him being on ships and fear of the ship sinking. Hope the wind dies down tonight.

House is looking fairly tidy although the bin bags have spilled some of their contents in the back due to the windy weather. Ill go out later and sort it as they go out tonight. Ill be looking like a mummy with all the layers Ill have on just to go out there.

Sounds as if people have been busy. I may get the urge to do some sorting out later until then Ill be lurking on here.
  • Hello again - just reporting that I`ve done nothing Christmassy but I HAVE scrubbed the kitchen & LR floors, shook out woolly (& thanks to Daftie-dog very HAIRY!) mats from LR and crumby & hairy mats from kitchen - came in looking like a yeti!
Have also peeled a load of spuds & onions (boo-hoo!) for tonight`s soup, & fried up the bacon bits.
Before I quit for the night I`ll make a fire, feed DGD, attempt to completely clear settee (have to find it first!), and pick up OH from work at 8. Feel a bit happier to have done something, even if it wasn`t what I`d intended...
    Have a nice evening folks!

Helen- I know how you feel. OH stayed home from college today so my planned productivity went all to pot :( And it's late night shopping tomorrow night so lord knows how I'll cope with my healthy eating when I'm not getting home until 8.30pm!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time
  • (HUGS) to you Helen. And MessyMare too (eldest DGD had a giggle tonight when I told her I knew another MM). I truly hate & mostly avoid late-night shopping, especially this time of year!

I`ve had a rather nice Wednesday (so glad it wasn`t Thursday today!)
Said eldest DGD (12) is staying over tonight, so I`m up early for the school run tomorrow. She came home with muddy PE kit that is needed again tomorrow afternoon (including thick tracksuit - kids don`t know they`re Born now being allowed warm winter kit! She laughed at my description of the kit we had to wear), muddy uniform trousers and coat, and school dinner beans juice down her sweatshirt. Have washed the lot and just about got it dry round the fire. Plaits undone and tangled in her unique route backwards through many hedges on way home, now after much nagging all brushed & dag-free, coiled in a loose bun for bed ready for a quick brush & plaiting in the morning. Homework done (rather well actually, she`s a bright lass) and homework diary checked & signed. Ate all her tea - scrambled egg on rye-bread toast & handful of cherry tomatoes. Then was peckish again, demolished 2 bananas & a clementine. Went to bed with her knitting (fatal) & got up again 3 times for me to advise against knitting when tired, & show how to pick up a dropped stitch. Then got up again, feeling peckish and had 2 hot cheesy Staffs oatcakes then had to do teeth again, finally went off & went to sleep by 9.45 - I know because she took deaf old Daftie-dog in her room, both were snoring and I had to wake one without waking the other!
I DID manage to find and clear the settee this evening, in between the DGD stuff.
Potato soup (with onion, bacon bits & a can of evap) & fried salmon went down great. OH has declared that he is definitely not `off` salmon anymore, and had seconds of the soup. Even DS was vaguely complimentary.
Now anticipating early start tomorrow so might get some Christmassy sorting done. Have at least cleared the decks for it downstairs. Also really need to clear some space in the freezer soon. Would like to get in Christmassy mood by Friday, but DD left a message , wants me to call tomorrow, (could hijack most of the day) so don`t hold yer breath yet!
    Goodnight Messies, God Bless xx
