How can you be from Glasgow and not have heard of a disco nap?
It is a wee sleep you have to help you prepare for a night of partyingTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I'm mortified, I've never heard of it! In my defence, despite being born and brought up in Glasgow I'm a Devonian at heart! But will be using that in future, it's definitely something I do!:D0

Loving "Disco Nap"
Hello new people and welcome
I think you should do things that you enjoy BECAUSE you enjoy them and NOT because you've done a bit of bloomin housework!!! We are only here once - make the most of it!! Sod the flippin ironing - do something that will make you happy. If you're happy then so are the people who care and love you, that makes you happy and that makes them happy and so on - what a lovely world it would be - everyone say aw!! Seriously, do the nice stuff in life - have something to look back on and smile at - you'll never look back and think "thank god I did the ironing"
See you all tomorrow - I'm off to enjoy doing something [DH is in bed nudge, nudge, wink, wink!!]

Oh how true - and....you minx Helen!:rotfl:
don't know how to separate quotes out into sections:o
I was reading on here the other day a post from someone who, in trying to teach her children the value of money, stopped them going on fairground rides as it was a waste of money, and instead said they could have new craft supplies. If whoever it was is reading this, please don't take offence, it was a great post and very sensible. and I wish I'd been more like that
! But I have to say I LOVE rides, water rides the most, and never think of that sheer thrill and joy, fleeting as it is, as a waste of money:) In summer me, DD2, DS, and DD's friend, went to a theme park and I was up and down the water rides like a five year old! I can STILL feel the exhileration and sheer happiness when I think about it! Far too expensive to do more than once a year, and even then it's hard, but I truly think it was as much worth the money as the crochet stuff I'm planning to get will be, for the memory alone:D
Just while we're on the subject of doing things we enjoy....:)0 -
Have you got time for one more messy to join in? I've been notoriously messy all my life - the state of my bedroom is legendary amongst my wider family. I'm one of those people who can keep somewhere immaculate for weeks at a time (never noticed by witnesses though!) but then as soon as 1 thing goes out of place, that's it - everything turns into a !!!!!!-tip and it stays that way for months if not years!
But over the last couple of weeks I've had a bit of a revelation... its not just me! As a bit of backround, my fiance used to live 250 miles away so we had a weekend-only relationship for a couple of years. His was the tidy house and mine was always messy. We bought a place together earlier this year which needs a whole lot of working on so we've created a "flat" in a part of the house and we're crammed into a few rooms with the rest of his stuff in "storage" in one of the other rooms. He's working 12+ hours a day 7 days a week at the moment on the house so all house work, cooking, shopping etc falls to me.
So here's the revelation. I finally got the motivation to clean the living room 2 weeks ago and it felt like most of the stuff that was lying around was his not mine. So I've been very deliberate for the last fortnight putting absolutely everything of mine away (in the living room - bedroom is another story!) and whaddya know, 2 weeks later and the living room is just as messy as before. So I know it is not all my fault!
Trouble is that he's the sort that when he's had a bad day he takes it out on me by criticising the state of the house and suggesting I could be doing more. I used to feel like I was at fault because I've always been the messy one but turns out that because he hasn't found the place to keep stuff yet, he doesn't put anything away either. There's no point in giving anything a proper home because its all gonna be moved around by the end of next summer so I've just got to learn not to take his moods personally and try to keep on top of his mess until the works done.
Doesn't help that I spent this morning cleaning the bedroom and then he came in in a bad mood because of the weather and hoovered the hall and the bedroom "because its filthy in here".
Off to do the washing up now because I want to re-use the slow cooker pot again for tomorrow's dinner...
Thanks for helping me to stay sane!0 -
Can I crawl back in please? I visited sporadically in the early days of this thread, but now my house is really getting to me again. (Often I can just ignore it, but it's biting me in the b*m at the minute!) Messy is probably too tidy to describe it really - and my motivation has totally deserted me. Perhaps I should just have my own thread for sluts really! Help.......!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Sonastin - hugs, at least you know its not your mess - not alot of comfort I know but don't really know what to suggest, maybe he's tired and frustrated and as a man he can't say that - what man can, so he takes it out on you??
beemuzed - welcome back and Hi, I'm slutty about housework but then who cares, not me and not my DH, it bothers my Mum but she don't live here so hay ho!! Just start on 1 pile for 10 mins and then have a break and then do another 10 mins either finishing what you just started or start another job - baby steps all the way
I often think that we are MADE to think that we should all have immaculate homes and be ready with tea and slippers for our partners, hubbies, wives, kids etc but I'm not thinking that way any more, I don't mind the mess to a certain point [I'll act when it starts to annoy me] but up to that point I'll do what I WANT to do and not what THEY think I should be doing - feeling rebellious today, can you tell??
DH and I are of out today so nothing will get done here!!
Have a lovely day everyone
Love and hugs to all

Welcome new Messies, it`s good for us all when you come and join us - makes folks realise there are LEGIONS of Messies really, we are NOT alone! Thanks to all posters for the many wise words in last 2 pages that I`ve just read!
Cat - I chuckled, sorry - can`t wait to hear next boiler episode!
Snotty (Hugs) to all with the Messy cold - mine is trying to get a hold and I`m trying to pretend it hasn`t as I can still smell (the daftie-dog has stinky wind, I noticed on waking today) and taste.
I`m really glad I stocked up a few months back with Balsam tissues and Olbas tissues. Maybe not very OS Moneysaving but better than snotty bits of bogroll and very sore nose!
I get much more lethargic in winter too, but if I leave my curtains open and there`s a bit of winter sunshine that gets me activated...like this morning, I`ve got a shoulder of lamb in the oven, and a load of smalls in the WM, now on second mug of coffee. I`ll probably run out of steam later though. The `Disco Nap` made me chuckle - if I do (rarely) take a daytime nap then I`m useless for the rest of that day, so I`d miss the Disco!0 -
Hello, just wondered if I could join you?
I am a bit of a lurker, but thought I'd join and post.
Got our Christmas decorations put up yesterday and tidied the lounge, however there is a load of stuff piled up on the dining table and behind the sofa now!
The spare bedroom is full of clothes and general 'stuff' and our bedroom is not tidy either.
The study is tidy, because we've decorated it, and we've put a sofa in there, but we haven't sat in there yet as it is not completely finished.
Feel in limbo really as nowhere in the house is completely finished, tidy and clean.
The bathrooms are ok, but could do with a going over.
I think I just need to do it in small chunks. Usually I start something, then end up getting overwhelmed and sit down and watch tv.
I'd love to get on top of things as I often feel we can't have anyone round.
Now the lounge is sort of tidy, we have invited friends round for pre-Christmas nibbles on Saturday night, so we have to keep it tidyish!
One thing I've recently bought to help me get organised is a handbag tidy, which you can put all your stuff in and transfer between handbags!0
