  • Wow thanks everyone. There are some lovely people on here and you have really picked me up. Its a catch 22 with my son because he wants to have a "normal" Christmas and do the same as everyone else - but he cant really cope with a normal Christmas and that makes him feel bad. We kind of go around in circles with things like this. I need to have a chat with him and try and get the message across that Christmas should be whatever makes us all happy.

He is 13 btw and has quite serious health and emotional problems so life is not easy at the best of times. Like others have said Christmas is hard because you imagine that everyone else is having a great time. Not true of course but its hard to get that picture out of your mind.

Hope everyone else is OK. Candygirl maybe if you have been working hard things are catching up with you and you need a bit of a rest? Oh and Cat glad to hear your son is doing well.

Helen sorry to hear OH is still not feeling great, hope you managed to get some sleep!

Yes and wheres Muffin been lately?
  • *hugs* to everyone, it's that time of year I think where we all get dragged down a little by the fun we're expected to have. It's a bit like when I was at uni and everyone bleated about how it was going to be the best time of my life...I hated every second of it and felt even worse for thinking that I was weird to not be enjoying it! I've not done much to be honest, just the washing up last night and then went to bed cuddling my pink fluffy hot water bottle. I've let all my exercise habits slip too, but decided I'm not going to plan to do anything for a little while, just to do it when I can. Just so tired all the time.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time

At the risk of sounding preachy - MM I worry about you!! I just can't believe the Cambridge Diet (at least at it's lower calorie limits) is good for anyone, let alone someone a) with fibro b) working a 45 hour week and c) doing exercise too!!!!...I just think, it's no wonder you're so tired:(

I'm no dietician and certainly no doctor though, so if they say it's ok I hold my hands up! :/

    oh btw, we're home:j
  • Well Im still plodding on but at least the washing is up to date ( thats all.) I really need to get my act together and very soon as its all getting too much but I keep thinking tomorrow tomorrow but it never happens.
Think I need to start making a list of jobs to do for that day.

    Massive hugs to all.

afternoon everyone :) absolutely horrible day here, very wet and windy! DS doing fine, think he was shocked by how much of his room I actually did (floor clearing mainly, not drawers and cupboards yet!). Today haven't really done anything except read OS, take DD2 to doctor for a blood test, got some shopping, put dishes away so I can do the next load, picked up bits and pieces for bin/to put away, and took a load of paper down for recycling.

I'm definitely getting into the habit of taking at least one thing out of a room that doesn't belong there when I leave it, and putting it where it does belong - one of the best tips I've ever read and so flipping easy, simple and effortless!

Haven't heard from washing machine man yet:(

DDs going bowling for a friend's b/day tonight so I'm HOPING that their tea might be included in that!

Have plans for the next week - buy and write Xmas cards! Last year I actually didn't do any due to feeling awful about stuff that happened just prior to Xmas. It was one of my recurring nightmares come true, I always dream that it's Xmas Eve and I haven't sent any cards!

Going to have a bit of nostalgia later, bought "Flowers in the Attic" in the charity shop for 25p, remember reading and enjoying it when I was 13 and in hospital, wonder if I'll enjoy it this time?

Love to all, hope your day is going well xxx
  • Hello Messies. Thanks for the moral support, you are good souls and it does help. Things are calming down a bit now, life goes on, eh?
Cat, I`m glad your son is home and better.
Yorkshirelass, I`m sorry your son gets `all Christmased out`, I`m sure all the hype and commercialism doesn`t help either. If only there was some way to find a happy medium between `normality` & Christmas-time I`m sure a lot more folks would enjoy it rather than dread it!
I`m still in a right messy pickle, but have been pottering quietly, just picking little corners of clutter to put away.
Been veryCBA on the cooking side, which ISN`T me. In CBA mode last night I made a massive pan of potato soup (lots of overboiled spuds, chucked in a can of Eezy onions, half a bag (about 250g)of fried-up cooking bacon bits, and a large can of evap milk. Things started looking up a bit then - OH said I should be CBA more often.

Hmm, I use lazy garlic but haven't seen Eezy onions, sounds perfect for me!:D

glad things are a wee bit better for now Emm xxx

Bought some Xmas cards. Also a padded envelope to send back a faulty X Box game to Amazon, it's been sitting here for 2 weeks waiting to go....and found an empty shoe box which I'm going to cover with nice paper and put all my make up etc in. Finally, I'm OS! Well, I will be when it's done :D

ETA - all dishes done bar a few glasses ( 3 sinks full, build up from the time in hospital), game packaged up with explanatory note ready to take to post office tomorrow, a super productive day so far for me lol

It feels cold here in the North. Having high ceilings means the rooms are harder to heat. Im going to order another bottle of calor gas as a back up . Hate feeling cold.
Iv pottered about today not doing much.
Cat glad your son is better.
  • Hi all :)
Ive decided theres different kinds of messy person tidying up. For me theres-
    1. 'Superficial' tidying - where I tidy things and hoover, but the clutter gets piled neatly or hidden somewhere.
    2. 'Sorting out' tidying - this is REAL tidying, as in sorting out those drawers stuffed full of 'things' and gutting and redoing the understairs cupboard, throwing things away and recycling - yes.. deep cleaning.
    3. 'Visitor' tidying - this is much worse than #1 as its a real 'hide everything' tidy that really should be sorted [thats #2 again!] when the visitors have gone but turns into 'stuff' that gets piled neatly or hidden, and then needs needs sorting oo say, next year?!

I wish every room didnt get so messed up!! I have tried to have clear cut 'no mess' rooms, but the children are like reverse magpies and leave things everywhere...waaa. I have enlisted them as minions though, they get a print out every day of housey jobs to do, for this they get pocket money on saturdays.
