My home is a mess

Evening All
I've been poorly with Shingles for a week and a half and the house looks like a bomb has dropped. OH has been doing the cooking, bless him, but not the house work LOL.
Starting to feel a little better now so tomorrow I'm starting downstairs and leaving bathrooms and bedroom for the weekend. Oh joy of joys I can hardly wait!0 -
Here endeth Thursday (well, nearly) of my week off. Back to work Monday and haven`t done even QUARTER what I`d intended....still, I HAVE done some well worthwhile stuff instead, and really enjoyed myself too. I enjoy cooking, and having my efforts enjoyed, it`s a pleasure shared even if we can`t eat together!
OH started Nights yesterday, so daytime activities have to be quiet ones. Dropped him off at work last night, then went to Mr.T`s (needed petrol) and to redeem my pan vouchers. Came home with lovely new pan AND a load of `final cut` whoopsies. No room in freezer for all, so DD today very happy with 2 big pork leg joints, big piece of rolled belly pork and a big pack of organic chicken thighs, while I have a large lamb shoulder and a big rolled belly pork - all that meat came to just over 20 quid!
Best of all, the very nice man on the till smiled, winked, and gave me the pan vouchers back - so tonight after dropping OH at work I went and got another pan! VERY chuffed with them I am, too!
Last night when I got home, made a fire, and did 2 WM loads, all dried around the fire, tonight doing some more (kitchen under bedroom so noisy stuff ok at night). OH doesn`t like washing around the fire, I LOVE it! Nursery fireguard, I fiddle with stuff, turning it etc., and it smells lovely.
Also cooking can be noisy so night a good time for doing pots/chopping & clattering stuff...this is Day Three of the Turkey. (I used a roasting bag so there was loads of juices/jelly) We had `Xmas Dinner` together, then first nightshift `snappins` was turkey breast with lots of jelly, HM stuffing, cold roast DIRTY parsnips & carrots, and made a sort of hash-brown with leftover roasties/grated shallot/raw egg, slow fried in butter till very crisp. (OH won`t use work microwave!)
Last night, I made a huge bowl of `coronation chicken` with turkey/mayo/curry pdr & mango chutney so a big dollop of that is tonight`s `snappins` on a bed of salad with fresh mint and flat parsley, DS & I will scoff the rest on DIY wraps very soon tonight! (OH doesn`t like wraps)
I`m making leek & potato soup tonight using more of the turkey stock, and a mushroom & turkey pie with the final pickings, cooking ahead for tomorrow. (Snappins will be some soup in a flask & hunk of the pie in butty-box.)
Will have DGD here tomorrow for the weekend, looking forward to that especially as I had a LONG leisurely browse in town today instead of doing potentially noisy house or garden stuff - and got her some great new togs, all bargains, stuff that she`ll like & needs (growing fast).
SO, my house is STILL a Mess. A veritable Midden. But I have spent my time off constructively, and lovingly, and I`ll make no apologies for that!0 -

Yorkshirelass - losing a long post is infuriating. So is when you get logged out, try to log in and they drive you round in maddening circles -telling you your e-mail address/username is `already in use` GRRR, yes it is because it`s mine and I`m trying to use it!!! Probably down to my own error somewhere but nonetheless aggravating when it occurs!
Snookey, its OKAY to be a `lazy cow` as you put it - congrats on getting others in household to do their bit!
KSH (welcome xx), and KIT - `bad people` sleep in the day??? Where oh where do we still get this sad old notion from? I reckon it goes back to days before we had electric light, and before shift work, etc. These days so many folks have their sleep patterns shot to Hell, folks have so many different shift patterns AND things to keep them awake when they`d rather sleep IF they can, AND things to drag `em out of bed at silly times of the morning...don`t beat yourself up about it, just take your meds a bit earlier! I could Lie-in to Olympic class unless it`s sunny, then I can`t. I can stay up pottering all night when I can`t get going in the daytime. (I often can`t get off to sleep on an `early night` but daren`t take meds - I reccommend listening to Joan Hickson reading Miss Marple - this always sends me to sleep quickly, same carp over & over again, but it works for me.)
Mrs DeBris (what a star name that is!) FORGET the housework for a bit longer hun - it`ll keep! After a few days more it won`t get much worse. Shingles is a real Nasty so just get over that properly first! Concentrate on being well-nourished and rested, you`ll be better able to tackle the housework when you`re more than just `starting to feel a bit better`.
Wifeff - I don`t let people upstairs here either! We prioritise because we need to. Did you do the pizza dough? (if so ?share recipe? I`ve dabbled at it in the past, lost recipe/plot since)
Helen - lovely to hear great feedback from school. Messiness regardless, it shows you`ve got the balance right, IMHO! I sincerely hope your cold isn`t like the one I recently got over. Do get yourself some Olbas tissues, AND some nice cheapo BALSAM ones - don`t be tempted to be too MSE and wipe nose on bogroll! It only adds to the misery.0 -

Thanks so much for that. Its wonderful to hear, I really do/did believe it made me bad. Maybe now I'll go easier on me!
I do that too! Pottering at night, all night, then I'm dead for a day or even two. I've even been known to hoover and regularly use WM at night. Daughter doesn't hear it and the neighbours haven't complained so I guess its ok.... I just finished washing up at 1am. But you have to do things when the energy is there don't you?
I struggle to get to sleep and seldom take meds at that point cos of the side effects which I don't like but I hadn't thought of talking books which is daft really because when she was little they were the only thing that got my daughter to sleep. I read till I'm and eyes are going blurry, lay my head down and on goes the light in my head, my mind starts its motor running and sleep runs out the door. I'm going to get some talking books - preferably boring ones
I'm sorry for you Mrs De Bris (love the name) shingles is horrid. I have a lot of pain in my legs and its often very bad at night, especially if I've done too much in the day and my pain meds just wake me up.
So I think after doing the pigs earlier this is going to be another all nighter. Maybe I'll open my post -
 cheers all.Stop looking for answers....

Hi everyone
Im back againI have just read through 6 pages
I just don't know where time has gone
I have been on a manic sewing spree, I have 2 craft stalls to get things ready for and had lots of the mum's at my DS's school wanting Hello Kitty bags and purses
My house has had to come bottom of the list as Ive been working extra shifts too
I had this week off my evening job but I have only managed to keep up with the basic's (washing, ironing and a quick hoover now and then :rotfl:)
I did clean my DD's bedroom Wed and cleared out a bin bag of crud, a wash basket full of washing and found tons of dust bunnies
She now says she can't find anything, at 17 she is a messie moo and does not take after me :rotfl:
My problem is there are 4 of us (+ little dog) in a 2 bed cottage so every available space is cluttered so I get lost as where to start some days so give up and sew instead which does not help as my rug is always covered in threads
Im off to my mum's for the wkend and leaving OH in charge but work 1st this morning.
Sorry I have been away so long and I hope to keep up with you all next wk as I don't have to rush around for school runs so at least 2 hours a day extra to make a start on clearing :j
Keep remembering those baby steps and catch you all soon (I hope)

Hi All,
Following Emm-in-a-pickle's great advice I have done nothing todayI went to bed and had a lovely sleep this afternoon but woke up feeling like my chest was being crushed. When I opened my eyes I found that it was! Doggy DeBris the Golden Retriever had joined me and was lying right on top of me for good measure! On the plus side the floor was looking less cluttered without him lying legs akimbo on it.
House still a tip but it can wait until tomorrow. I may wash a few pots, just so that we can eat to night..ho hum
Enjoy your Friday evening!0 -
Evening!
That is me back from holiday
It was lovely having someone else to clean the room and make the bed, shame I couldn't bring them home! The break was just what I needed and I feel refreshed and ready to face the next few weeks! The house was nice and tidy when I came home as I had worked so hard before I left, it was lovely.
Hope you are all well!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Just a quick hello from me, haven't been around (lurking) cuz been mad busy at work.
House is not too bad which is making me a bit lazy... might have to get back to somesort of routine.
I hope you're all well, if not... have a {{hug}}
Much love,
