Thanks to everyone who replied to my long post that I made over the weekend:) It's so great to know I'm not alone, I've felt for a while that everyone else managed their houses/lives better than I do but now I see that many of us are all in the same boat:)

This is what I always think too and this thread has made me feel so much better. Most of my friends seem to have perfect houses too which doesnt help.

Going to tackle the cupboard in our bedroom today, need to be ruthless - every time I open the door there's an avalanche. Then maybe I can get some things off the floor and back where they belong.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi, just joining in here.
I know I've moaned about housework in the past and I really do hate doing it and resent it like mad, but part of the reason is I feel I am rubbish at it as I can't keep up it. If I can most days get through the clothes washing and the washing-up then I think I'm doing well. But what about the rest of it? I work nearly full time, but in shifts so do have the odd couple of hours during the day here and there through the week but it is not long enough to get anything major done. Come the weekend and I am too exhausted and with teenagers about too it's like being on a tread mill keeping up with feeding everyone and doing the washing mentioned above. The house is permanently dusty and I never get the chance nor have the energy to keep the whole place looking good at any one time. I try and keep tidy as best as I can as that helps a bit but that means constantly picking up things. I really don't know how we're expected to do so much and still be sane, I feel worn out. If I could afford a cleaner I would but I can't. I hope I am not the only one because this really does get me down and I have just spent this weekend trying to do what jobs I can but overall the place is not much different. I feel guilty when I try and chill and watch tv or read and resent it like hell when I have to spend time trying to keep up with something I can't seem to keep up with. :( If it stayed looking good for any length of time it would be something but even when I do get anything major done it soon starts to look a mess again. Sorry to moan but I am fed-up with it and the expectations that are put upon us to do everything. I know I am not practical, which doesn't help and yes I would rather be sat at a computer than cleaning (as I am now) but to keep up with the house/cleaning feels like climbing a mountain and I know I have started to let things go and I don't feel good about it but then resent feeling guilty for it. Can't win.

Sorry it's feeling really overwhelming, McFilly. Is there anyway you can lay down some new rules about your teenagers doing chores? I had to do a lot when I was little and I know it helped my parents, for instance I did my own laundry, kept my room tidy, was responsible for loading and unloading dishwasher/doing dishes in sink, sometimes vacuum and I had to cut the grass and shovel the snow. It wasn't a lot, mind you, but it made my parents lives easier and taught me that I needed to help.
:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A
  • I once threatened to take a photo of my sons bedroom and post it on facebook and tag it so it showed up on all his friends news feeds. You should have seen him move to tidy up when I got the camera out and took some pictures and zoomed in on his "too long to measure" boxers.:rotfl:

    Garage decluttered

    Jobs for today

    Stock take of food cupboard
    Clean ensuite

  • Well the cupboard is sorted, although its taken me the best part of the day! I have thrown out one furry insole, a bag of shells, a carpet sample, some hideous purple tights still in their wrapper, an assortment of hats, bags and belts that I never wear, the hood off a coat that I dont even have any more, some old makeup, some train tickets from 2003 and some Christmas receipts from 2007. I have also been through the box of kids drawings, cards and school books and sorted out the best ones to keep and put the rest in the recycling. Phew!

I now have a pile of stuff to go to the charity shop and a pile to go in the bin. Nothing much worth ebaying unfortunately.

Oh and I have found a total of £4.56 in various handbags! Wont get me far but still.

Off to make a pie now for tea. Had a bit of a drama when I put the beef on to brown and forgot about it until I smelt burning! I really hope it tastes OK.

Hope everyone else has had a good day.

Iv been out and about today. The gym fees have been paid, healthy food bought ie fruit and veg and diet started. Dinners in the oven and now Im sitting down.
Iv also done more glossing in the front room and removing spider webs.

Iv been looking on the other parts of the forum and you know what this is one of the best. People on here are nice to each other and not judgemental like some threads. Messy people are nice people in the main as they are also honest. Thats my opinion anyway.
