Hello messies and hello to all the newbies
I havent made it onto here for a good week as been v. busy, hardly been home let alone switched the laptop on! I have managed to just about keep on top of dailies through careful planning e.g. loading WM in evening on timer so ready to put on line first thing etc. Never would I have been that organised a year ago!!
I havent had a chance to catch up on the thread, just last couple of days so hope everyone is well.
Looking a bit dire on the cleaning front. Think I will have to set a whole day aside in the next week to do full dust/hoover/bathrooms/floors blitz. I am 1 week into a very busy 3 week period. Have big events on with both my voluntary jobs, OU assignment to complete, sister's bday etc.
Plan for today is lunch out for sis bday. Means tea tonight will just be beans/egg on toast so nice and simple. Need to get the ironing mountain cleared, write mealplan and shopping list for the week. Also plan the week to work out what days I can fit food shopping/cleaning etc. Must also get to the shops with the kids. They both need winter boots/shoes and DS and I need slippers -it's too chilly at 5.30am not to have any!!
I am also considering going back to work 2/3 days a week. Been updating my CV and planning on sending it in on Monday am. DH earns a good wage but huge mortgage, rising bills and only the one income is really taking it's toll. Feels like we just never have any money once bills are paid, something we are not used to, and it's getting us down. DH isn't convinced I could cope and doesn't really want kids in childcare loads either. Realistically we wouldn't be left with much after paying for extra childcare and there would always be the juggling of what to do with the kids in the holidays etc. On the other hand, DS will qualify for his 15 hours free pre-school next september and be at school following year so it would really start to pay off then. I think it would really help my sanity and confidence. I would love to feel that I am more than just 'Mummy'. That someone actually believes in me enough to pay me to work for them! Sorry for side tracking off the house front, just would love your input/thoughts on this.
Thanks guys0 -
MummyEm I think you sound as if you have made up your mind, you are going back to work for your own reasons and the extra money will be a lovely bonus
. I have worked full time since my DD was 6months. Not ideal but we have made it work for us. It sounds as if you are in the position where you can choose a job you really want to do which will make it even more rewarding. Have you considered working at a school so holidays would not be a problem?
I am feeling quite tired today so I am going to do my cleaning in little bursts with copious amounts of couch time. To reduce effort I am even going to tackle the laundry in a way that means I am only doing the things I need today and I can worry about the rest another time.

MummyEm - we are in exactly the same position as you - rising costs mean that anything other than the basics is a no-no!! I'm starting to do some hours where DH works on an "as needed" basis. I'm lucky though as I can pick which shifts I want to do and work it around DH's shifts and the children. I'd quite happily stay at home but needs must. If DH managed to get a better paid job I wouldn't have to work but I'm very happy to do my bit. The trouble with the Care industry is that everyone wants it but the pay is awful!!
Not doing alot today as I can't be bothered - visiting a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon later
Have a good day everyone
