My home is a mess

Evening
Well I am feeling ok just exhausted after a long tough weekend. My OH came home today and after leaving my house spotless this morning I came home to find his things spread about the place, I almost started twitching :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Now he is in his loft doing his own thing having left all his mess downstairs. He did mention that he may paint the bedroom on his day off. Mind you it has only needed painting for the last 4 years!
Emm hope you are recoveringTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

So far I have
Got up late

managed to get kids to school with seconds to spare
came home and started breathing
Had coffee and nicotine
washed up
Big plans for the clean up downstairs today if and its a big if, I can stay awake - had a bad night last night and I'm so tired now
Have a good day everyone

Hi and welcome to all the newbies :wave:! Hope all you with lurgies are feeling better now, grim being ill isn't it.
Just finishing my lunch and about to dash up to school to get DS (last week of part time thankfully :T). The house has been a real dump; I'm definitely on the right thread. Today I've:
* washed up dishes (been there since Saturday)
* cleaned worktops and dining table
* cleaned all the white goods (how did someone get broccoli and potato soup on the washing machine?)
* made all the beds
* sorted washing
* done 2 typing jobs
* cleaned the bathroom
* sent parcel to my sister in Truro
* dropped off meds prescription
Want to spend a nice afternoon with DS and tidy up in the lounge at the same time. We've got someone coming this evening to see about our possible extension so don't want the place to look too hideous.
I'll be back!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Hi everyone, I need to rant. Those feeling delicate today please cover your ears now.
I have been following this thread for over 3 months now. I have tried really hard and have made improvements but keeping it going is tough. I cant get away from the fact that there are 4 of us living in a fairly small house and we do have a lack of storage space. My hubby is a lovely man who works really hard but I really dont think he cares about the state of the house (he denies this of course). So long as there is somewhere to sit on an evening and he can climb into his bed he is happy. I am at home all day so it really gets to me.
Last August (yes really) we started decorating the lounge. It is 80% done but not finished. We bought new furniture which is still flat packed in its boxes. I am waiting patiently for hubby to finish re-plastering one wall - this is a task that is beyond me unfortunately. Until he does that we cant get a much needed new carpet and cant put the new furniture together. How do I get him to do it? We have also got some stuff on the landing waiting to go in the loft which I need help with. Its a ten minute job but the fact that there are boxes stacked on the landing just doesnt bother him at all.
I have got my sister coming to stay next month - she has an immaculate house - and I am already fretting about her coming because I cant seem to get on top of things.
Phew, rant over. Off to do some cleaning in the kitchen and utility. Have just taken 3 carrier bags of clothes to the clothing bank in the car park which is something at least!
I always tell eveyone else that baby steps is the way to get there but even that feels hard today.0 -
Yorkshire - have a hug [hug], men!! Honestly, they'd live in pigstys if allowed. My mind is mush today so I'm no help really, just wanted to say you're not alone

Yorkshirelass have a (((hug))) from me too. If it's any consolation I am in exactly the same boat - seems like DH doesn't care, he rants (and I mean rants) at me if I dare touch any of his [STRIKE]carp[/STRIKE] valuable items and has even been known to go through the bin to see if I've thrown anything out (I had). That wasn't pretty. He wants to live in a slum but this is my home. He doesn't pick up his washing; just sort of slings it at the washing bin and if it goes in fine, if not he leaves it - best stop .... I could go on :mad::mad::mad::mad:
Helen hope you have a better day tomorrow and your brain isn't quite so mush.
Picked up DD from school; she has to practise her piano ready for lesson at 5 and I'm going to make cottage pie with veg and pear crumble for dinner tonight yummy! Determined to keep the kitchen tidy, want to bath the kids and early to bed for them tonight - I'm off out - and will be tomorrow too :j!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Yorkshire Lass - I really do feel for you terribly especially as today I have uterly blizted our home and cleaned it right through - sort an Autumnal clean if you like.
When we had a holiday cottage recently it was quite small and I found every single day I was having to vacuum up and make sure that everything was put away otherwise it would look a tip in no time. I came to conclusion that smaller spaces means harder work, but yet a bigger house means you can get away with quite allot.
The only thing that works for me, is that I put the vacuum cleaner around every single day and keep both the kitchen and bathroms clean. It means about a half hour blitz after dinner in the evening but I am on top of it that way, then when I come to my indepth clean towards the end of the week, it does not seem half as bad. I have mentioned before that I am not overly keen on dusting. I like water and vacuuming jobs instead so I make a bigger effort on that because I like doing them. What I do, do is to make a list of things that need to be done and then I go through it and cross each job off as I go along and that way I can see results from then looking at the house and the list as well.
As for your lounge, maybe cut your DH a deal he gets the lounge finished off and you will pay to go out for a meal as a treat! It's a hard one for me to suggest anything but my DH is pretty motivated when it comes to anything around the house so hand on heart I would struggle for something to suggest, but maybe you could give that one a go and see what happens!
My personal feeling is that once you have the lounge sorted you will feel much better in yourself, it does seem that your frustration at the lack of progress is hampering your motivation and until that lounge is done you are not going to make headway with the rest of the placeCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Yorkshire lass - I would tell him you have arranged for a few people to come round and give you some quotes to get it done. If that doesnt give him the push to get it done I'm not sure what will.
As for the loft, I would stop half way though cooking dinner and say 'oh, can you just help me put the boxes in the loft while dinner finishes'. Then stand over him until he does. Make it clear, in a subtle way, that dinner doesnt get finished until the boxes are up there2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0
