  • Many people that are on the flylady thread focus on just doing Level 1. So for example clean work surface. If you have lots of stuff on there then you could just focus on a small area and see if you could clear it and then try and keep that area clear as the next week you would just need to give it a clean and would not need to declutter that area so will be done quicker.

Well, living room still a bombsite and getting dustier every day! Kitchen is coming along, trying to fix the leaks in the shower in the bathroom above, so that my efforts to repair the plaster in the kitchen aren't in vain. Unfortunately I'm just not good at that sort of thing and now have blobs of sealant randomly plastered around the shower! Looks a mess but if it doesn't leak I'll be happy for now - one day I will have enough money to have a new bathroom.

  • Hey Messies

My house is such a mess! I keep forgetting to post here, but to be honest it's like I'm always playing catch up.

Had my friend's wedding on Friday, got in about 12am, chucked everything onto the floor and just got into bed! Saturday I was a bit hungover so that day was a write off! Sunday I did a bit of tidying and washing, also baked a cake!

Yesterday I went to the gym, did food shopping and went to see my grandad, then cooked a beef stew.

So, I seem to have avoided actual cleaning for most of the weekend! I have work at 2 today so I'm gonna do as much as I can before then.

    Catch you later
  • Hi all, sounds like everyone has been busy. I was laid low with an awful sickness bug all weekend so hubby was in charge. It was quite funny lying in bed listening him banging pots around the kitchen trying to cook meals. He is definitely out of practice with doing any kind of domestic stuff since I gave up work!!

I came downstairs on Sunday afternoon expecting the house to be like a bomb site but it wasnt as bad as I thought.

I am trying to keep busy until its time to go for my job interview this afternoon, the job (if I get it) is only a few hours a week and I am quite excited about it. I am really nervous though so hope I make a good impression! I have had a dummy interview with my 10 year old pretending to be Alan Sugar which was hilarious.

Oh and its going to rain here too by the looks of it. Loads of washing to do and I need to walk part of the way to the interview so I really want it to stay dry!

Jps - yeah I am going to start decorating when the boys go back to school. I wish I could afford to pay for someone to come and do it for me! Keep going, it will be worth it in the end.

And Rummer - well done you! I have let things slide a bit over the school holidays but nothing that cant be sorted out once the kids are back in a couple of weeks.

Sorted out a prescription, popped into Aldi to check out the Super 6, went somewhere else to get the only dry catfood fussy-drawers will eat, and got the windscreen wiper blades changed. Returned home to take ds into town for a new school blazer, but he has escaped.;)

And that's the morning gone. Can somebody tell me how it is I manage to work as well?:rotfl:

Incidentally, while at Halfords I mentioned my theory that my previously perfectly good wiper blades had perished in the sun in the long stay car park (I returned to find them both flapping from both ends), and got looked at very strangely. So I'm now entertaining the possibility that some cheeky weasel swapped their shredded blades for my sound ones. I guess I'll never know. I can hardly ask BAA to go through 200 hours of CCTV footage over it, can I?

I looked at level 1, then crawled into a (dusty) corner to hide.

Best of luck in the interview Yorkshirelass!

I've come to realise there are several stages in decorating...

the "this is going to be a piece of cake" stage (before starting, to psych myself into it),

the "Oh my good lord why did I ever start this" stage (every few minutes at the moment),

the "well that wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be" stage (rare but wonderful),

the "hope no one notices what I did there" stage (again, every few minutes!!)

and finally the "I'm sick and tired of this and need something sweet or deep fried to keep me going" stage (followed closely by the "right, well I can do the next bit tomorrow now" stage!

Laurel, I keep peeking at the flylady thread and fleeing in panic!

JPS-last year I ripped out some kitchen cupboards and removed the horrible glass-panelled dirt-trap sliding doors (as a Messie, I have to eliminate dirt traps where I can, because, let's face it, I ain't gonna clean them) between the kitchen and hall, more or less on a whim. Or because the bathroom suite was being ripped out and the skip was paid for. I could not believe how long it took to get everything back in order.

I'm now looking at the new tiles I've bought (excuse-new boiler) but I really don't like the worktops, and I'm sick of the dated paint finish on the kitchen doors, and the carcasses aren't in great shape and I'm wondering whether it's ridiculous to tile when the rest of the kitchen needs doing but *that way lies madness* and the walls are already covered in patches of matchpot and...argh!!

I need something sweet *and* deep fried just thinking about it...

And as for the Flylady thread-the truly terrifying thing is that the beginners' list looks like something I might aspire to *work up to*. Perhaps when I'm retired and the children are off my hands...
