    That made me laugh hehe

Colleen - can you complain to the Landlord and get some reduction on rent for the first month or make him get a cleaning crew to come in and then charge the previous tenent - what a dirty b!tch she is - you must be feeling sickened, but hang on to the thought of how it will be once you've got it sorted - massive cleaning vibes being sent to you hun

    Helen x

PS I've done nowt again today except go and buy a lovely ball of wool to make a bag and also found out that my Gran who died 3.5 years ago [probate takes a long time] has left me "a wee minding" I have no idea what that means [Scottish] so I'll just have to wait for a few more weeks and then find out!!! I was really surprised as I expected nothing and its been a while now so hadn't even thought of owt like that so I'm really pleased that she thought of me as she lived 100's of miles away and I hadn't seen her for the 6 years before she died - anyhoo enough rambling I'm off to get me knitting

Unluckily we've bought the house of this woman. I guess I wasn't really expecting it to be deep cleaned, but is it too much to ask for a quick wipe of the counters, toilet and for her to have fished her hair out of the drains? Ack ack ack ack :wall:

Quick - take some photos - you can contact your solicitor, I'm pretty sure that you still have some way of claiming cleaning costs from her as you have to leave the house in a clean way even when selling - worth a call to find out??

Colleen thats disgusting Id complain like Helen said. Hope she doesnt join our thread as we messy people still have some pride in our homes.

Soap powder will get rid of the smells and degrease the sinks and floors. If you use cola in the washing machine it gets rid of the smell of wee so it must work if you use it in your mop bucket. Mind you you would need to rinse the floors. A rubber glove or damp sponge should help get rid of the hairs.

Im ashamed to say Iv only been out to get some washing powder and other cleaning products and Iv done nothing else. Wish I could get my motivation back.
If I do anything later Ill report back, god sounds like school, lol.

    Rant alert!

Oh god, I got the keys to my new house yesterday. Ok, I knew it wasn't going to be perfect, as the woman had SIX greyhounds/lurchers in what isn't a huge house, but oh god, oh god, oh god. We spent hours and hours and litres and litres of bleach just scrubbing the kitchen last night...OH also did the conservatory and I made a start on the living room. Her dogs have peed up the breakfast bar stools and the bar holding it up, so it's all rusty...dog hair is ground into the carpet and in several places that were hidden by furniture it looks like a cat has been sick several times and she hasn't cleaned it up, so the carpet is really badly stained. Our poor little hoover cant cope, so my mum is bringing the dyson over tonight. I used an entire thing of shake and vac and it still stinks, I smell like I've been swimming because I've used so much bleach.

And that's only one and a half rooms.

Upstairs, more cat sick stains that were hidden by the bed, and I wondered why there was a bedside table in the wrong place, the carpet is stained there too, mildew it looks like. The bathroom doesn't look too bad on first glance, but the drains (all of them actually, the kitchen one too) are blocked with gunk and hair. I was almost sick last night at the state of the place. She's left a sky box and the remote is crusted with this brown stuff, I dread to think what it is.

Then there's the garden...broken ornaments everywhere...it's gone to rack and ruin in the short time since our last viewing (about a month and a half). Weeds absolutely everywhere, old bags of clay, broken ornaments, overgrown and half dead bushes.

Oh and in the kitchen, bits of dog food and hair EVERYWHERE. I mean, everywhere...in cupboards, on top of cupboards, in drawers, down the drains, everywhere. I'm glad my OH has a stronger stomach than me :(

Honestly, I know I'm not the cleanest person in the world but I don't know how anyone can live like this...I don't know if it's because we're habitual renters, and used to leaving houses clean and tidy when we leave them, but I feel really upset that she's left it in such a state...I don't know what she was doing in the last few weeks because there's also massive holes in the plaster that weren't there before :(

I just want to cry :(

Right, plan of attack. bundle all your stuff into one room as much as you can.

You need to, forget about shake and vac etc. Borrow your Mum's Dyson - hoover everywhere, multiple times. Use the nozzle and get right into the corners and go on the top of the skirting. Before one person is hoovering the other person should use a feather duster to go over all the walls and ceilings. Leave all the windows open everywhere for as long as you can, leave the upstairs ones open for days to help the house air.

Once hoovered, rent a carpet shampooer or pay someone to do it for you. No amount of scrubbing and hoovering will get the smell of mouldy dog, mildew and cat vomit out. You need to shampoo all the carpets. Do ALL the rooms. If you hire one you can get a cheap carpet shampoo solution from the pound shop.

Buy toothbrushes, a large pack of disposable cloths you don't want to keep and rubber gloves - a mask if you feel especially queezy and scrub every inch of the house. The corners of all the windows, right down into the rim of the loo and everywhere you're afraid to venture. Get 2 bottles of drain unblocker and pour half down each sink/drain/toilet - if it's that bad that you can see you can bet your pipes are in a worse state. Spend a bit of time also flushing them out with boiling water.

Once that's all done you can start to make the house feel fresh. Leave a bowl with salt and half a lemon in every room, leave the windows open as much as is safe, place some lillies or strong smelling flowers in some rooms. Get out the furniture polish and clean all the windows and surfaces so they are gleaming and the house smells of a good clean - you'll love the place eventually, you've just got to gain a strong stomach for a couple of days to de-stink it.

Just think how much value you're adding to the house merely by cleaning it!!

Edit, I don't think you have any right to complain whatsoever - I don't think you've any right to expect someone to deep clean the house before it's sold (or even wipe the kitchen).

In terms of claiming for damage. I would contact your solicitor. You said something about damage to the plaster on walls. This may be something that you can claim some compensation for from the seller. We had a similar situation whereby some damage was caused in a house we bought. It was fine when viewed but then damaged before we moved in. We were advised by our solicitor that we could make a claim. We didn't end up pursuing it, but it may be worth a quick call to find out.

    Could I join please???

My problem is that I live in a tiny 2 up 2 down terrace with DP who is a hoarder (we have 3 drumkits stored under the bed and I have been with his 7 years and he hasnt played them in all that time lol), DD1 who is 3.5 and DD2 who is 2. I just struggle with piles of clutter, hate clotheshorses everywhere (more in winter) and sand from the sandpit being trailed through the house. And what is is about laminate floors that the moment you hoover and ckean them, they are dusty again????

Anyway, have enjoyed reading this thread up to now and am hoping you can pass your enthusiasm on!!

I think some damage to the walls when removing shelving and pictures can be expected if they're not in good condition to start with. We've damaged walls putting nails in and taking them out in this property till we got the place re-plastered.

Obviously it depends on the size of the damage but it's unlikely she thought to bash the walls with a hammer for fun.

Thank you for the advice :)

There's a hole in the plasterboard that I can fit my hand in...

There's a few dings and scrapes that I espected and haven't worried about, and my parents are lending us their drain rods (OH pulled a toy car out of one of them!)

On the bright side, there's loads of handmade greyhound sculptures everywhere, which I'm going to take to the next retired greyhound trust event that I'm involved in and sell to raise some money for them :)
