  • I think for me it has been realising that I am not the only person in this situation - and that a little does make a difference.
I have been doing small jobs that I can do in a commercial break or two and pausing my tv and going off to do one task at a time - this has had least impact on me and my energy levels but had a lot of impact on the house eg

    Monday night
Before Corrie - stick all dishes in sink with boiling hot water and soap - corrie commercial break - wash dishes (if you have more than one lot of dishes to be done put next lot in to soak)
End of corrie - put dry dishes away and wash 2nd lot if needed. Put bleach in loo.
Watch Eastenders and sort sundays washing and ironing into bundles and place on bed (and therefore have to be put away before I can get into bed)
End of Easties/ start of corrie - put away rest of dishes and spray all the surfaces with cleaning stuff
Corrie commercial break - wipe round worktops and that is kitchen done.
Bed time - clean loo and flush - clean teeth and wipe round sink, taps mirror etc and go to bed.

Each of those commercial breaks are up to 5 mins - get into the swing and those 5 mins could be used for - running a hoover over a floor, mopping a floor, putting a wash on, pegging a wash out.

The beauty of having digi tv is you can pause progs so if you are too long you can either pause it at the commercial break or rewind when you sit down.

This is my plan of action for the next week and I am hoping that I can keep on top of the busy areas then at weekend I can crack on with the de cluttering.

Thanks Buddingblond, i think i will give that a try in between TV soaps. I spend soooo much time on the computer, i kind of do the same thing.....go off and clean something for 5 minutes then come back on the computer for about 2 hours before going of to do another 5 mins clearing  and so it goes on ....i swear i have an obsession with the computer, trouble is reading all these threads about decluttering isn't actually getting it done:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • Me too - and the de cluttering post and the fly ladies are just a bit too much for me at the moment. I feel I am managing to do what I can. I am sitting folding clothes at the moment and will put them away when I go to bed.
  • I am so loving this thread - at last I know I'm not the only person who doesn't have a tidy home! All my friends have places that look like homes and gardens on a photo shoot and it's sooo depressing when I look round here.

Have managed to get on top of the laundry for now but kitchen does need a good tidy round which will have to happen tomorrow now as I'm worn out from doing garden. This did make me feel good though as the path outside the house and the flowerbeds are much tidier.

I have just started another red recycling bag for clothes shoes etc. so hope to fill this before they call on Wednesday.

I soooooo agree! frustrating isn't it!! Glad that there are other people who are not afraid to stand up and say erm..... I have a problem and would like to join Untidy Unwell anonymous

After 3/4 days of feeling yukky thanks to a virus I'm now ready to face the world and the house(eek!)once again- I have to catch up with the posts so as to get the old motivation levels back up to full but I'm just about to load the dishwasher and then I'll attack the laundry with avengence or maybe just try and stick with washing one load a day - No ironing mind you - I don't do ironing
A recycling bag and paper shredding bag has been allocated for today so its a new day and I'm feeling good (feel free to sing along nah? didn't think you would)
    Do what you can
May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce:D

The best thing I have found at removing dog hairs is the Dyson Animal. I treated myself a few years ago and it's the best £240 I've ever spent. Before I got it I was using the end of the hoover nozzle but it took ages to do a rug and it still looked manky. My Mum has a Meile Cat and Dog but although it's good it's not as good as the Dyson. I think the main thing is the rotating brush instead of just dragging the hoover across the carpet if that makes sense (you can probably get cheaper uprights with rotating brushes though).

Sorry I don't have a fantastic OS remedy, stardrops and vinegar don't quite cut it with dog hair!

Would putting on a rubber glove and rubbing the fur all together with that work? Bit cheaper than a Dyson! :rotfl:
I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!

  • When we had a collie/springer cross her hairs were everywhere and stuck to the carpets like superglue
    - so every so often I would put a pair of marigolds on and rub the carpet in small circles - worked a treat in collecting the hairs- it works on sofas and cushions too and my DD used to join in (she was 3 at the time!) and thought it was a great game!
Not quite the Byson animal but might work on the stairs and hall - just do a couple of stairs at a time!

Another really easy way to get hair off the carpet, particularly the stairs, is to put on a pair of trainers and drag your foot across the carpet. The rubber sole makes the hair gather into a lump which can then be vacuumed or picked up. :j
