I understand where you are coming from.

I work and my husband is disabled and has a ABI (had a stroke) which makes it really hard as there are lots of things he can't do as he is one handed. Or if he can do they they take for ever rather than the 5 minutes it would take me.

I am lucky that where I work we get some really nice sturdy lidded boxes from one of our suppliers. So I get free storage. I am going to cover some of them with cheap wall paper so I can have some of them out on display.

I know that my house is such a mess for many reasons. One being I am lazy but I do work 30+ hours a week, two my husband can't do a lot and three my house needs re-decorating from top to bottom, including new ceilings and that all costs money.

And the state of the houses is what causes the most amount of discord in our house.

    Yours

    Calley

  • Hi Calley,
Your plans for decorative storage sounds lovely - might pinch that idea!
Like you my home needs a lot of money spent on it so even when tidy it looks tatty and worn. It makes it very disheartening sometimes. I am trying not to let this deter me but at the moment if I sit down too long and think about it I could cry!

Love the idea for decorating boxes - plastic are functional but not very pretty and I do have some strong cardboard boxes that I could adapt. Must admit most of my house needs decorating. I've concentrated on making the kitchen and living room look the best I can, and will get around to the rest when I'm able/have the money.

Just thought - isn't Shabby Chic in at the moment???
  • I think I am too shabby for shabby chic - but if anyone asks Ill tell them that the look I am going for.
  • It's hard to keep up with housework, especially if you are working, busy with children or have a disability.

What I do is always take something which doesn't belong in a room out when I leave the room (trained OH to do this too), clean the bathroom when I have a shower, clean parts of the kitchen when making a cup of tea (surprising what you can get done in 2/3 mins) de-clutter an area, be it a drawer, desk etc for 15 mins a day, I must admit when it comes to washing up I run a bowl of very hot water with washing up liquid put the washing up in this and then come back and wash them up later. There are many tips like these which make life easier, the main thing is not to let it build up, a little a day saves a huge job. I also find having clean floors, IE the hoovering and washed floors makes the place look much cleaner even if the dusting etc hasn't been done.
  • Well todays housework has gone by the by - and I have made a fatal mistake. I have started emptying out all the drawers and cupboards in my room and can now not even get into bed with the amount of stuff piled on the bed.
I am knackered and thinking I will just bag it all up into black bags and do one at a time tomorrow.
Havent even cooked - got a take away.
Only saving grace for the day was 4 washings done - however house now looks like a laundry.
  • Hello all!

    I can't believe I haven't spotted this thread before now:eek:
A few years ago I started a very similar thread. Basically my house being so cluttered and untidy and having no motivation whatsoever to do anything about it as I had depression.
Well my house is still cluttered and untidy, if not more so as I now have a toddler aswell:rotfl:
What I did get out of my thread was some lovely friends who I still chat online with on a regular basis:T

Anyway I was hoping I could join in with you in the hope that one day my house could possibly be clutter free and easy to keep clean and tidy.
I'm actually on a major tidy session this weekend as I am very busy for the next 5 days and have no hope of tidying or even getting online. Unfortunately though I was supposed to get loads done today but in my wisdom decided to sort out clothes. My bed was absolutely covered and I got bored, but is sorted now:rotfl:

  • HI Millymoomoo,

I am up at 7 and trying to get the house sorted now,
Tasks for the day - tidy up under the bed so I can put new storage under it. Air the house, sort the clothes from yesterday, sort more stuff for charity.
  • Good morning:D

I am hoping to do a major clean in my bathroom and teenage son's room so I could be gone a while:rotfl:

Goodluck with under your bed, mine is a shocker:rotfl:

  • I have no idea what is under mine - it will be a day of discovery.
I have wiped round kitchen and bathroom and put another wash on - I cant stop avoiding the bigger jobs even though they need doing asap.
