Problem:
I have loads and loads of stuff - which I am bagging up for the charity shop HOWEVER I have realised that if I donate everything they are getting hundreds of pounds worth of stuff.
I used to ebay but the thought of ebaying now fills me with dread:
1. The clutter has to stay around the house until it is listed
2. The posting of all the ebay stuff and the hassle from buyers
Considered car booting but it is a 2 person job and OH will not under any circumstances be seen selling our "tat" in public.
Should I just donate it to charity and feel a better person for having a decluttered clean house and having made some money for charity?0 -
Good grief we could be twins:rotfl:
I used to feel that way and also used to Ebay stuff regularly. But I can't stand the thought of ebaying anymore and to get my OH to do a carboot is not an easy task:rotfl:
The way I deal with it now is that if I haven't worn/used something for over 6 months (within reason) it has to go.
I'm still (all these years later) trying to work on the basis of tidy house tidy mind. Both for me are far too cluttered:oGood Enough Club member number 20 -

God we do sound like twins!!
I have just cleared out under the bed and found enough cat hair to knit a new cat (which after losing one last weekend would be lovely!) and I have also found that new lidded storage for under bed is too tall! Will have to lift bed up to put the stuff under so trying to store long term stuff that I wont need every 2 mins.
I have sorted out all my shoes - at last - and there are 30 pairs off to the charity shop - some that havent ever been worn (that I should be ebaying but hey you have made me feel less guilty about that).
I looked on music magpie to see about selling old dvds cds and games - they only offer pennies for them and I think I would rather give them away for nothing than sell 15 of them for under £10 - now that isnt money saving is it?0 -
I do a carboot sale with my sister every four weeks or so to get rid of our rubbish. She sells more than I am prepared to let go
but we have a real laugh, and its a girls' day out for us. Last time I made £10 profit and she £130! We will do it again next weekend, so I have to get a move on.
My kitchen is looking good, I still have the scary corner at the table to sort but I can't face it, so I am back off upstairs to deal with DS1's room, or soon to be room I should say, it was the playroom and I have promised him it will be as good as done by the end of today  I also have the laundry mountain in my room still to sort through. I had a bit of a day off yesterday, I was too busy running here there and everywhere for the kids.
I also have the cluttered mind syndrome going on, but hopefully sorting this tip out once and for all will sort that out!

Budding - do you have a friend who would car boot with you? It can be daunting doing this on your own, and with the better weather coming if you can find someone who has some stuff they want to sell then sharing the cost of a pitch makes economic sense as well.
Haven't done a thing in the house so far today (although I did clear the washing up backlog last evenin - frying and roasting pans which no one ever wants to wash).
Did get out to do a bit of gardening which has given me backache so sitting down for a bit before I tackle the next task.
I haven't e-bayed anything for ages so might give this a go again as DD has done well selling some of her stuff recently (think people are now looking for bargains due to the credit crunch).0 -
Soup dragon - I havent anyone to go carbooting with - dont have any friends who live in the area (all family are down south and most of my friends I only have contact with now online). When I lived in Glasgow I used to car boot at Glasgow Zoo (many years ago) - never came away from there with less that £100. Where do you boot Jackie? You are a brave one if you tackle Blochairn!! Have never sold there only ever shopped and that was scary enough.
I am now onto my 3rd big black bin bag of stuff for the charity shop - have put out 2 big bags for the recycling and I am emptying the hoover for 2nd time. There is tonnes of cat hair appearing everytime I move stuff!0 -
I do Polmadie if it is wet, on a Saturday, and Blochairn if the weather is nice. Come up one weekend just for the carboot, I'll keep you company, lol! I am watching the football
but I have promised myself only the first half!

Buddingblonde if you really can't face doing a car boot then give it away to charity/freegle and forgive yourself! If you have something really nice you could ebay it but otherwise, just get rid of it. You'll feel so much better and be doing someone else a good turn. I have kept stuff for ebaying in the past and I just used to beat myself up every time I saw the box of stuff that I hadn't dealt with. Is it worth it??
Skint but happy with my lovely family
Hypnotherapy rocks :j0 -
Thanks Purpleheather - you are right! Better that it go than hoard more cr*p.
Where is Polmadie Jackie? I cant place it - god how the mind goes blank!
If you are going to watch the football there is no point watching half a match unless - you are getting gubbed at half time or you are gubbing someone else.
I am now washing the winter coats to get them put away - dont need them cluttering up the place. I have been good and put some old stuff (that cant be charitied or recycled) in the bin too. I am wondering why I didnt do this years ago.0 -
It is between Torgyglen and Richmond Park/Shawfield Stadium, just behind Aikenhead Road. I have Sky+ed the football and am now going up to get going. They are drawn 0-0 against Aberdeen who have been down to ten men since about 18 mins in! I have had enough now....
