My home is a mess

MoonJelly - getting laundry folded and put away was one of my biggest problems when I was messy. I mentioned it on a forum one day and someone told me to look at laundry as a process, it's not done until it's put away. So I moved towards a system (it did take time) where I wouldn't put more laundry on to wash until I was in a position to put the previous lot away.
It's really tempting to keep shoving stuff in the machine (as that's the easy bit) but it really worked for me to see each load as a separate thing and keep everything moving. I don't iron much, but even if things needed to be ironed I put it away, unless I'm going to iron there and then. I'm not saying it would work for you, but I do feel your frustration.
If it's overwhelming, just do a couple of bits every now and then, every advert break on the tv, every time you get up to do something else. It'll go and you're not dealing with a massive heap every time.
Not sure what I'm doing today, just a few basics, then I'm at the charity shop, I might clean the porch, thanks for the idea pollypenny.0 -
Well, you wouldn't believe what an idiot I am!
Sat down to sew up DIL's jumper, having sewn the raglans in order to do the neck band. Quite proud of my stitch picking up!
Sadly, I discovered that I had sewn in this order - back, sleeve, sleeve front!
Had to undo neck and very carefully catch the stitchers, which had been on stitch holders. Nightmare undoing the sewing, too!
I didn't know whether to cry, scream or swear!Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Hi Messies!
Re the laundry (putting away) thing, it`s only the clothes that are a problem here. Towels & bedding can be put away quite efficiently, so why not clothes? I suspect it`s because where they are kept is the most disorganised!
I`ve been MIA getting back into long-day shifts, (Monday & Wednesday, catching up with home & real life Tuesday!) and it hasn`t been too bad at all. I`ve stuck to forward planning with meals, but on Tuesday I did fall off the wagon again and buy a load of great YS stuff - 5 pairs of duck breasts and a butterfly leg of lamb in freezer, but at least I haven`t filled it to capacity again. And I`m still de-cluttering older frozen stuff for meals too.
We gave the car a thorough clean on Sunday (there was a helicopter around while we were doing it, OH said it was the press!!) and on Tuesday evening I got a call from the garage, they have found me a car to part-ex. As it was quite late I only had a sneak preview and am very pleased - low mileage, one owner from new, etc., we will sort details this afternoon as work got in the way yesterday!

For the moment, I`m just happy to have the day off and off Friday too! So far, I`ve had a lie-in then un-trashed the kitchen, caught up with washing up/cleaned sink & tops. I`ve put a thawed lump of beef in SC, the idea being to let it cool and slice tomorrow & leftovers for the Saturday night CBA supper as I`m at work all weekend.
LR - not too bad, just a bit hairy...
Upstairs - it`ll do, once I`ve had a laundry trawl.
Hall - full of apples, in shallow boxes that don`t stack!
Plan -
Deal with apples - store the best, cook the rest.
I`ll freeze some and commit Pie with some this evening. Eat pie, then do more tomorrow for the weekend.
Laundry - uniforms, smalls, & towels.
Anything else apart from a bit of general tidying will keep. I don`t foresee any major de-messying here till the start of October, and I am not going to stress about that.
Hope everyone`s having a decent week. x0 -
Slowly getting on with stuff here, cleaned the bathroom and replaced shower head yesterday.
Sorted recycling and hoovered living room.
Also, not related to cleaning, I've been to town on my own twice this week and feeling good at the moment.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
I've had a very positive week on the domestic front. I've just been pinging from one job to the next and it has felt easy to keep on top of things. I don't know why, hope it stays this way though! I'll probably be wading through treacle next week.
Have a good weekend everyone.0 -
Busy U3A week, so little housework done.
I did sort out DIL's sweater and just need to sew side and arm seams. Off to Llandudno this afternoon to see a play about Wilfred Owen and Sassoon.
Enjoy the weekend folks.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Had a bit of a down day today but was determined it wasn't going to beat me. I've managed to do a few things, mainly smaller unimportant things but needed to keep going.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

Hi
Well done. I've done lots of small things that added up to a lot of rubbish in black bags.
I know mess can be overwhelming but what it will look like when I eventually get rid of the crap, keeps me going.:)Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
Today my husband painted the bannister. Six years after he did the first coat!! Another job ticked off the list.
I am going to go through my clothes in the morning as its time for a cull.0 -
Hi everyone - after another long absence from the forum, I'm so happy to see my buddies keepin' it messy! It's lovely to see so many friendly names still posting.
My house is messier than ever, you'll be unsurprised to learn
However due to not being so ill this year, my garden is better than ever and has remained much less messy than the house!
Still no luck with the solitary bees for me Emm, how did yours do this year? I have dozens of really impressive garden orb spiders though, one was so big I took it to school to frighten the faint-hearted  I did of course return it safely to it's hazel bush, none the worse for the experience if a little disgruntled.
I have actually managed to bottom out the washing heap from the box room, and it's now kind of weird being able to walk in there without tripping over it! This lovely weather has enabled me to keep on top of it even in term time, as I can get it dry on the line.
I had a half-hearted go at mucking out and threw out some clutter that wasn't even worth CS-ing, just a couple of bagloads but it's a start. I'm also finding time to batch-cook veggie soup for work and stews/bolognaise type SC meals for evenings. Good job I don't mind samey eating!
I wish I could motivate myself to do dusting and hoovering weekly, but I'm pleased with the small steps I've taken and managed to keep up.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
