Nipped into Tesco on the way back from the station, it's much easier for me when it's empty.
When I came out I couldn't see the car, I looked where I thought I'd parked but there was just a bright silver one then I realised that was it. I'm not used to seeing it so clean :rotfl:14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Hi Messies!
Well, yesterday was crazy - we were having a great morning, all going nicely till someone said the `Q` word...then one of the staff went off sick, we had an emergency, and loads of other stuff - one of the most hectic days there right up until the night staff came in! I swear if anyone says `it seems quiet this morning` again I`ll shove them in a cupboard for the rest of the shift!!! Seriously though, very challenging day but we managed to get through it with everyone putting their all into it. I count myself fortunate that not only do I love my job, but I have some lovely patients and great colleagues. It would have been an impossible shift if we weren`t a close team.
Now it`s 2 days off (the week of annual leave starts Sunday) so I`m feeling like the world is my Lobster....
FINALLY - got DS`s washing pile off him last night, so WM is on now with a load of jeans, should dry outside today.
I`ve done last night`s pots and a quick wipe round in the kitchen, I`ll make more mess later with the lamb bones/ leftovers for tonight`s curry!
I had a chat with an Indian colleage, so when the washing is out I`m going in search of fresh curry leaves again.
DS is going to GF`s tomorrow, so any de-messifying I get done should last a good few days! I`ll make myself a list, but I`m going to try to treat it more as a `want to` list than a `have to` thing. The ONLY thing I am going to call a real Must Do is to eat some stuff out of the freezers & make some freezer space - this is more of a Mustn`t Do, as in mustn`t go buying fresh meat or any more YS till we use some of what`s already in! (How hard can that be....?)0 -
After all that Emm you should add "do something for yourself" to your list.
I've not done anything yet, I'm so tired that even thinking is too much effort so I'm catching up on missed tv programmes.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Hi Dibuzz - I am thinking about some `me time` too, though the stuff on my list is going to be for when I`m in the mood! I do enjoy cooking, when I`m not rushed and tired, and OH is great to cook for as he`ll try anything except desserts once and give fair and honest feedback. Also, I do get a lot of satisfaction from getting a room feeling clean again, or a bit of sorting and slinging, or a bit of garden re-claimed from the wilderness - as long as it`s not the only stuff I`m doing. By the time I`m due back at work I`ll be glad to go!
I have got some nice fabric still untouched, and hoping if I have a creative binge, I`ll make a couple of nice tops for winter. I also intend to catch up on a bit of telly & radio!0 -
Good Morning all.
I do hope everyone is having a good weekend so far.
I had a really great time yesterday. After de-cluttering DS to the station by mid-day (!) yesterday DGD & I decided to have a pie-fest.
The old apple trees in our back garden are laden, but most of the fruit within reach is a bit scabby and covered in birdpoo from the birdfeeders. Higher up there`s always some nice big apples but usually they fall and rot in the jungly undergrowth. We put odd socks (DS`s) on and tucked our trouser legs in them, old check shirts with big pockets, and went out armed with a long rake and a hoe. Must have looked a bit strange but I thought the neighbours were out so never mind.
Lots of squealing and giggling, like when treading on a mushy fallen apple (yuck!) or when stuff fell on our heads. I was telling GDG about `scrumping` when I was a kid - I think she was a bit shocked, but then we decided to pretend these weren`t our apple trees.... Littly dog wanted to join in at first but then went and lay on the decking watching us with a worried look.
We ended up with a big box of apples, a few nettle stings, and lots of bits in our hair, and quite out of breath from our efforts and all the giggling. Then, Mrs next door came out and called over the fence - said we could borrow their special pole with net for the higher apples (!) but hadn`t liked to interrupt us before as we were having such fun!!!!
I let DGD used the potato peeler and I used a new neon green knife from a `funky` set (birthday pressie) but the colour of the blade was too close to the apple skin colour and I cut my thumb twice - more protein! DGD giggling `Nain stop bleeding on the apples!`
We made a tarte tatin first, and ate it while it was warm. Yes, ALL of it. Didn`t touch the sides!
Then we made a big deep pie in a disposable foil dish, blind-baked the bottom first. That`s for her to take home to her mum today. Then another 2 big plate pies, one of them got eaten last night but the other is still intact.
I put some jacket spuds and a tray of minty lamb ribs in the bottom of the oven for supper while the pies were cooking, so it worked pretty well.
It didn`t take long to clean up after ourselves either, but there`s still a bit of evidence on kitchen floor that Pie was committed yesterday....0 -
I like the sound of pie-fest Emm.
Spent the weekend filling rather than emptying the house but you can't have everything! I steam cleaned the bunny pen on Sunday and it worked a treat. even if I use it for that alone it will be worth it, it too ka fraction of the time and effort.
I've chucked some clothes into the charity bag, the kitchen is next on the hit list, but not today! Hope everyone is not too bad.0 -
Alec E, I`m glad you`re finding your steam cleaner so good. I bought a hand-held one a while ago but haven`t used it much. I used it on the gas hob and wasn`t too impressed, but maybe I was expecting too much (like a miracle!)
Wednesday afternoon already!
Why do the days of a week off go faster than in a working week?
I`ve done quite a bit though, lots of washing, including heavy floor rugs dried outside, LR & kitchen floors clean and a bit of de-cluttering upstairs.
And more Pies!
We`ve visited OH`s auntie, and I`ve done a bit of jungle clearing in the garden too. Trying very hard NOT to go shopping when I don`t need to.
But, although I`m cooking stuff from the freezers I`ve been putting off the most needed task. It`s no use just taking something out of the top layer, the rest is packed solid, and desperate for a proper sort-out.
I made a start this morning.
I have chucked some unidentifiable bags of what must have been tasty once...
I now have a half-empty small chest freezer, room for a bit of tetris....and frostbite!0 -
Afternoon, I'm glad to say my efforts before i go off on holiday are paying off and my formerly messy house is looking quite presentable now!
Yesterday i emptied out the laundry basket, which was mostly full of socks. So i washed a whole washing machine loads worth of just socks! :eek:yes... i own a lot of socks.
Spent 20 mins this morning playing "match the socks" whilst catching up with my youtube subscriptions.
So now i have an ungodly amount of paired socks in the bedroom, so much for only having a single sock draw.
I was left with approximately 20 unpaired socks, which i did feel a little sorry for, they seem so lonely, and though i should perhaps start a sock dating website to help them find a partner.:rotfl:*Assuming you're in England or Wales.0 -
Hi all
Been AWOL, partly due to the building work going on in my kitchen which has involved emptying and moving everything and seemingly spending hours cleaning up plaster dust. Just keep telling me it will be worth it in the end ..
Hugs Dibuzz. Oh and Emm I wish I had been round at yours to help gather up the apples, what a laugh. We are a bit appled out here, our fruit trees are early so we have been eating apples non stop since late August. Oh for something exotic like a banana or a few grapes.
Got my appraisal at work tomorrow which I am really not looking forward to. Took me ages to fill out the stupid appraisal form, how do I see my job developing over the next year?? What are my goals and objectives?? Silly questions. Just hope the boss is in a good mood!
Going to do a few paperwork jobs and get an early night I think. The plasterer is working on the kitchen ceiling as I type this so hoping he isnt planning on staying too late.0 -
I've been doing bits and pieces, mainly de-cluttering and feel like I'm slowly getting somewhere.
It will still be a long time before things are sorted but feeling more positive about things at the moment.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
