    Morning.

today is my first time I've had all day at home this week so I'll be doing a few bits and bobs - nothing strenuous though! I have a fair bit of laundry to do, some general tidying and a load of fruit and veg to chop. This morning I've done some things that get overlooked, cleaning out the boxes that hold our toiletries and cleaning products, the coat cupboard and stuff like that.

    Have a good day.

    Hi Messies!

I feel like I`ve been doing Earlies forever, then coming home in a Very Hot Car, only to find a sinkful of washing up and empty stuff that others can`t take four steps to put in the recycling. GRRR!

    I have become VERY grumpy.

I finally gave up asking DS to sort the strimmer out, took it to a local shop on the way home from work and got the nice man there to sort it out. Thought I`d have a go with it this evening, but on my way home there was a sudden downpour and now it`s too wet to tackle. More GRRR!

DS also informs me that his GF is coming tomorrow - this explains why LR sofa is covered in his heaps of dirty jeans etc - he`s picked up his floordrobe and `presented` it for washing. Nice. OK, I will do it, but only because I don`t want him trying to cram too much in a load and wreck new WM.
I have put my foot down though.
I now have 3 days off, and while I`m willing to shop and cook and do still more than my share of household stuff, I`m NOT going to do everything. I`ve been quite specific about this -
I am NOT washing a pile of dirty mugs. OH & I both always use our own mugs and wash or rinse them as necessary, DS & DGD just leave various mugs where they drank from them and then use another clean one.
I am NOT clearing up a trail of idly cluttered stuff, though it`s quicker to pick up and bin things than to nag the original depositors to do it.
DGD has Henried LR & kitchen - her own spillage of noodles, crumbs and bits of paper.
DS has washed the stuff he dumped in the sink. (though I expect there`ll be more coming out of his room before the GF arrives.

I am often grumpy, but seldom as grumpy as I got today. I think folks got the message...

I know how you feel with that Emm, it's like talking to a brick wall half the time.
Not much progress here, I woke up in agony with my back the other day and can still hardly move so it will all have to wait.

Oh Dibuzz, thats all you need a bad back eh?

Emm I sympathise. I completely lost it with my two yesterday and things have been much better here today, although I suspect it wont last. Mind you I did give in and gathered up the dirty washing from DS2s bedroom floor, yes yes I know I shouldnt have really but it was such a mess in there.

Polly, sounds nice, are you on hols? Its been hot enough here today.

Had a really nice day today, while the kids were out my parents called and I had a nice natter with my Mum, chilled in the garden and did very little. Tomorrow I have to catch up on some paperwork and must do some hoovering, but its supposed to be cooler so thats OK.

Could go to bed soon - yawn!

    Hi Messies!

Pol, I remember you posting about booking flights a few weeks ago (babysitting I think you said?) so hope you`re really enjoying time there with family - it must be hard living so far away.

Dibuzz, hope your back improves soon. It`s weird when you just wake up with pain, but I have the same thing with my wrists/thumbs! OH has a theory that it`s to do with changes in air pressure... but theories only give me a headache as well!

Alec E, there`s lots here that`s getting overlooked - and likely to remain so I fear! I`ve barely been keeping up with the barest basics lately, and thinking I`m doing well to do that!

YL, well done taking a chill-out day. Having one really good one now and then helps to `re-charge`, somehow so it`s time well spent really.

    Chez-Emm -
I`m seriously considering asking ward sister if I can do some long-day shifts again. I couldn`t be more tired by them than I am with lots of shorter shifts then coming home and doing more graft here. Having serious thoughts about coping with work/home balance.
DS has announced that his GF isn`t coming today, she`s coming tomorrow. So he still hasn`t started blitzing his room apart from the floordrobe (3 WM loads I did yesterday which is now hanging around drying)
Today I`ve got 2nd WM load on, dunno where I`ll hang it as sky keeps clouding over and I`m not trusting weather today - and I can only get to a small section of washing line without disappearing in the jungle!
I`ve got all doors & windows open so there is a bit of a breeze through the house - every doorway has laundry on coathangers. I`ve also got a strong muti-peg hanger thingy I`ve put outside, but that`d be quick & easy to bring in if it rains.
I`ve cleared the sink/pots, as DGD has only just got up - I`m sure she was going to help, eventually...

    Garden -
This has gone berserk. Too wet to attempt to strim, and my mint and lavender have gone doolally escaping from their raised boxes. I`ve spotted some feral nasturtiums trying to poke through the jungly bits, so I`ve been pulling long grass/nettles and bindweed by hand, cleared a little patch that I`d not risk strimming now as I want to encourage the nasturtiums to take over like they did last year.
Privet hedge is quite aggressive by the front gate (you don`t notice till it`s wet & you get a soaking as you go in or out.) But I can`t get near the shed to get hedgecutters out!
Redcurrants are also inaccessible, but the blackbirds are seeing they don`t go to waste, crashing about quite noisily in the bushes!
DGD saw a fox on the decking yesterday morning. OH wades through the undergrowth to fill the birdfeeders every day, so he`s worn a little path to the apple trees. The rest of the garden, giraffes could hide!!!
Nature is wonderful - but a little overwhelming. I still prefer to have a wild garden, but admit it needs a bit more `managenent`than it`s getting.
    Hope everyone`s having a decent weekend. x

My thumb has been bad for a few weeks now, the doc said he will give me an injection in it.
I've been shopping with eldest son and struggling to move again now.
I only managed an hour's sleep again last night, it was far too hot.
    Your garden sounds lovely Emm.

I understand what you mean about the garden Emm. I've worked reasonably hard (for me, a non-gardener) this year on our. I haven't been out at all during the hot weather but was looking out of the window last night and the brambles are back, and looking mean!

I spent a load of time getting rid of as many as I could last year but the network of evil underground was too much for me to deal with without digging up the entire lawn and borders. So I just deal with it as well as I can. I'll be delving into the undergrowth with my loppers when it's cool enough to do so.

We did manage to clear another small area this afternoon, got some compost into it and planted a couple of things so that's better than a kick in the face.

Hope everyone is having a restful weeknd, sorry to hear you're suffering dibuzz.

Dibuzz, I was under the hand specialist physio a few years ago and she was brilliant. I was taught a `simple traction` exercise, and using ice packs - as well as splints for a while, one set to sleep in and another set for daytime. They did say injections might help, and also might remove a bit of bone in the future if it gets worse. So far, I`ve found that using icepacks (frozen peas actually) does the trick - but I have to keep it on till it hurts, then goes numb, so I only do it when it`s really bad. Another thing she told me was if you have a lo of writing to do (I do at work) to use gel or fountain pens, or a really good biro - less friction = less pain.

I've had physio in the past and still do the exercises. It's only my left hand but although I'm right handed I seem to do everything else with my left.
