I've been up since 4am and still can't sleep
There's not much being done at the moment, having a few problems so just keeping up with the washing as much as I can.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Emm - "nailing jelly to a wall" just about sums it up here!
DD and DS should have been home from holiday with their dad last night. Technical problems with the plane, now due back around half four this afternoon. Birthday celebration at half two today, looks like I'll be going on my own and will have to leave early if they arrive back on time, then only have two days to turn around DD's holiday clothes before she flies out to Greece on Wednesday for ten days with her best friend and her family.
I had planned on doing "loads" of sorting while they were away but have been out with friends four times instead . I can sort when they're home (just a bit more difficult to bin stuff when they're around!). Thinking though that me time is necessary and who really cares if the TV needs dusting?
I promise faithfully to get back to clearing the carp sometime soonx

Hi Messies!
I`ve just done 2 shifts that are difficult to describe..., but I`ll just say it hasn`t been a great weekend! The patients are lovely, Bless`em, but being short-staffed and having lots of different agency staff is sometimes like having extra patients to look after!!I am so tired but just glad I`m off tomorrow. Just the one day off, but for now that sounds so good.
I`ve got a WM load in, cleaned up in the kitchen & put a huge piece of pork shoulder with ginger & honey in the oven, trying to get as much done today before I listen to my complaining legs & feet!0 -
Raksha, I would love a puppy like that! Hard work though.
Well, we survived DIL's week away, with DS going to New York on Wednesday to see Liverpool, then having a minor OP on Friday, we've earned our keep. They've gone to the cinema now. Managed to get the boys down for a nap although the little one is on the border of one a day, so crossing fingers.
Just been to 'the store' with big boy, 2 and1/2. Great. He was very excited and shouted 'that guy got stache like grandad '. Love it.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Hi All.
Pol, it must be lovely for your DS & DIL having you there, and your little one teaching you American!!
Well, I had a little lie-in this morning, and then went shopping
(farm shop and Morrisons). My `magic greengrocer` at the farmshop offered me a big box of tomatoes and one of large apricots £3 each!! So of course I didn`t hesitate...and now wondering what to do with it all. The toms & apricots aren`t even over-ripe, so no urgency to use immediately.
So, I decided to cut the hedge while having a think. (Only the couple of yards near the gate, because I get showered every time I walk past if it`s been raining. Had to use hand shears as still can`t get to the shed to access hedgecutter!)
I now have a large apricot tarte tatin in the oven, and 25 big apricots left in the box, AND
A roasting tin full of quartered toms /garlic/ olive oil on the next oven shelf down, plus a double layer of toms left in box, and I gave next door a dozen toms (they don`t like apricots.)
Blimey.
I`m going to have to eat all the tarte tatin myself as OH & DS don`t eat sweet pies. (No hardship!!) I`m planning to make some Indian apricot chutney but it`ll have to wait till Wednesday after an early shift. Might make another tarte t. too, and batch cook the rest of toms if they need using - curry or spag bol base, should have more freezer space by then!
This has changed my meaplans a bit, but they were vague anyway.0 -
Send me your address Emm, the tarte and chutney sound lovely
Ex hubby wanted to go to Costco but doesn't have his card anymore so I went with him then we called at Tesco and both got some shopping which was good as I'd been feeling anxious about going and needed lunch box stuff for youngest.
I had planned to hoover the stairs but could hardly move after that so it can wait till tomorrow.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Hi Messies!
Dibuzz, I`d be happy to share the tarte but nobody here likes it so had to eat it myself. Not fed up of it tho, I`m making another one this evening!
I haven`t done the chutney yet, which is a pity as we`re having curried leftover pork tonight. I`ve given about half the toms away, and used loads too. Still a bowl of toms left but they`re not going soft yet.
I`ve had a big fight with Henry today.
After being neglected for almost a week, he resisted having his bag changed (I asked DS to do it after he did his own room, but he `forgot`.)
I went to Aldi this morning, just for some sandwich meats and bratwurst, but also bought 3 lovely woven cotton chindi mats,
subtle yellow/orange stripes, £6.99 each. Then decided to change LR mats, and put down one of the new ones between LR & kitchen. So, I had to Henry first. That`s where the trouble started.
After a wrestle with the bag-change, I admit I was grumpy, but I didn`t try to choke him deliberately. I honestly didn`t know DS had an escaped sock behind the log basket. After much poking with a long skewer I did manage to remove the sock, and finish the job I`d started. Henry is now in the hall, glaring at me. I was going to carry on and do upstairs too, but I think we`ve had quite enough for today.0 -
Hi Messies!
I do hope nobody`s being adversely affected by weather - the forecasts were a bit alarming for us here, but so far we`ve just had a lot of early morning rain, now it`s sunny and windy.
So, I still have a soggy jungly garden, but it`s a good laundry drying day - 2nd load nearly dry, and I look rather windswept, but not grumbling yet.
This is another single day off, so trying to make the most of it without trying to do everything - tomorrow I have a run of 4 short shifts before another single day off.
I`ve done some good freezer tetris, and trying to use frozen stuff rather than buying more food in. My glut of apricots and tomatoes is getting used, but STILL not finished yet and thankfully still not off! I made a lime jelly with apricots in last night, for a change!
DGD is still at her other grandparents, and although I`m really missing her now the house isn`t getting cluttered as fast as usual - plus I had severe words with DS a few days ago about not trashing the kitchen. I`m trying to convince myself that I`m moderately in control.....0 -
Hi Messies!
Well, we`ve all been MIA for a while - hope everyone is ok, and it`s just life and stuff getting in the way...
I`ve worked `short sfifts every day since my last post - except yesterday when I stayed on after an early and did a long day as we were very short staffed. My first long day this year!!
I now have 3 days off as a colleague is covering today`s early in exchange for yesterday pm.
Wow. I`m underwhelmed!!
Shopping/cooking/washing up/essential laundry only - apart from these NOTHING has been done in the house for 8 days.
Today -
2 WM loads, a trash-trawl and bins & recycling out, slapped some colour on my hair, and cleaned kitchen tops and sink.
And a pause to assess Messy Status.
I`m pleased that what I`ve done so far is a `plus`, as I`d only be on the way back from work now if I hadn`t stayed on yesterday. I`m pleased that I`ve kept within spending targets this month so far, using some freezer stuff and lots of fresh veggies.
I`m pleased that DGD has been here for a week, yet the sofa and LR flat surfaces aren`t cluttered - I`ve asked nicely and haven`t had to nag, which is a nice change!
But on the down side-
Garden is completely wild now, out of control for this year!
Thick layer of dust on LR flat surfaces.
Bedrooms are a tip, need clothes tidying and Henrying.
LR rugs need shaking outside and turning over to clean side.
(I`ll be doing that next)
Mountain of paperwork built up in computer corner.
Strong smell of cat pee coming from either hall or DGD`s room. (During the week a friend dropped in with her cat in a carrier. I suspect it was a dirty protest by our puss who was excluded from LR while DGD was in her room. We haven`t located the exact spot, but DGD has a washable rug on her floor so that will go in WM next, then further sniff tests will be carried out.)
I`m NOT going to try to do everything today. I`ve got a leftover lump of boned lamb shoulder, so just veg to steam for tonight. OH has decreed that I/we deserve some real ale, so we`re off down the pub for a little while this evening.
I may do a bit of dusting before we go. Or not.0 -
We are making progress with the bigger stuff here - plumber fixed part one of our water issue, had a drain man round on Friday to look at the rest, he's coming next Thursday to do the work.
We've chosen a floor and someone is coming round tomorrow to measure up and see what needs doing to the subfloor, tomorrow afternoon an electrician is coming round to look at the bathroom light and the security lights. All I need then is to have the boiler serviced.
In terms of everything else, there's a massive pile of laundry which I do when it stops raining, most of the rooms are as they should be I just need to do the floors. Hope everyone is OK.0
