My home is a mess

Well, yes, I'm trying not to think about that too much! Thankfully we have a load of bubble wrap from DH's impulse purchase lamps. MIL has agreed to house the rabbits for a couple of nights which should make things a bit easier.
Today the drain guy some so we're now unclogged and clean as a whistle!
Keep that week off in your sights to keep you going Emm.0 -
Finally I have something to report.
I've given the living room a good hoovering and tidy up although I ran out of steam before the end so will have to finish it tomorrow.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Dibuzz, sounds positive. I am another feeling sorry for myself I am afraid. Just wish I could get more time at home to catch up with things. It will be easier when DS is back at school I think.
My house has somehow slipped back into a complete mess. I must spend some time decluttering, especially clothes and shoes. We have also ordered the new kitchen so before long its going to be complete chaos!
Enjoy the weekend everyone.0 -
Hi Messies!
Dibuzz, I don`t think I`ve ever tackled my LR without leaving a bit (usually computer corner!) but at least it looks and feels better to have done most of it. Running out of steam, or time if something else needs doing (like food!) is the norm here!
YL, September is coming soon!! At least you & Alec E will have a good excuse for chaos, with major stuff like new kitchen and new floor.
Well, yesterday I got home just before 4pm, had a quick coffee, then dragged OH off on a mega-shop! I wanted to get as much done so I could really have a day at home today.
We did farm-shop, Aldi, Morrisons (plus petrol)and then Farmfoods on the way home so took the `scenic route` and came home via country roads rather than bypass. Maybe this wasn`t a great idea because I was SO tired by the time we`d unloaded the car and put all the shopping away.
I just threw a chicken in the oven and a cauli and baby potatoes in the steamer, hit the wine box, and put my feet up with littly dog on my lap.
I`ve had a nice lie-in this morning though, and don`t have to go anywhere today unless I decide I want to. LR & kitchen floors need Henrying & mopping, both loos need cleaning & mopping, and there must be 2 WM loads at least. All I`ve done so far is washing up from last night.
I`m going to try to con myself that I WANT to do the other stuff today....0 -
I`m stopping for a coffee break -
I`ve Henry`d all downstairs plus bottom half of stairs, shaken & turned LR rugs, mopped kitchen & LR floors, and one WM load nearly finished. I used stardrops and a capful of Zoflora (Springtime flavour) in mop bucket and it smells lovely in here now.
You know when folks say `you could eat your dinner off that kitchen floor now` - well, it looked as if somebody had!!0 -
I joined this thread three years ago and then got caught up in work and other stuff and completely forgot about it which is rather embarrassing. The clutter in my house really depresses me mainly because I can't see myself ever getting on top of it for two reasons - (1) my OH is a hoarder and I can't get him to throw anything away, not even packaging. We have a room which is full of his post from about 7 years and he won't let me get in there and chuck it away; and (2) I have some health issue which means that I am tired most of the time. I don't know what it is and am tired of being poked and prodded by doctors so I have given up on the quest to identify it. But what it means is that I can only do so much before becoming exhausted. And if I overdo it one day, then I am next to useless the next day. So on the few occasions when I feel like I could do something, housework is not the first thing I want to spend that rare time on. Maybe that makes me lazy, I don't know.
Anyway, I thought I would join in...although I think I may have been left behind a bit now by you all - you are all doing so well.
So today and yesterday, I went through my make-up which had sprawled and taken over the entire bathroom window sill - got rid of quite a bit of old stuff and made a system for the good stuff; I also cleaned out the Tassimo which had been standing unused for a while.
In the days before that, I went through my study and got two bags of rubbish. I still have more to get rid of but since my council only picks up rubbish once every two weeks, I can't really make more rubbish for now. I also went through my cupboard and books and made several bags to take to the charity shop when next I go that way.0 -
espresso21 you sound like you're making great progress. One thing I find useful and when ever I manage it improvement on the mess starts to be seen, is maintaining any area however small.
In our hall we have a cubby hole which we have never decided how to use or what to store in there as a result it ends up being a dumping ground, about a month ago I emptied it out, dealt with the clutter, and I have managed to keep it clear ever since. If I find anything in there I ask the owner to deal with it. This is happening on less and less occasions. I do realise that this is a tiny area I have got control over but still it's a step in the right direction. The more of these little steps I make, the more of the house is manageable, the more time I have for the next step.
Like many people on this thread I have fatigue issues and I am still learning to manage that and also by inclination I am messy so it is a long hard struggle to escape the CHAOS.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

We're starting to pack some of the smaller stuff up ready for the work to start this week. They're not coming until Thursday morning, but I don't want to be flying around on Wednesday trying to do everything, especially as we have to take the rabbits to MILs on Wednesday evening, it's a 45 minute drive.
I'm making a start with the decorative bits and bobs, not that we have lots, but they all take time to wrap and all that stuff. We also have to nip out for a travel cage for the buns and a few other items.
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Hi Messies!
Espresso21 - welcome back! It`s hard going when you have a hoarder in the house.
My DS came back when he split with his ex and his hoarding has caused problems here. Most of it is junk, a lot is bits of old computers etc., but to be fair he has found uses for some of this hoard. His bedroom is already `written off` as far as my efforts are concerned, but it`s also the spare room of Doom now dominated by his junk. We`ve had raging rows, a few half-hearted attempts to clear a portion of space up there, and long periods of just ignoring it to keep the peace!!
It`s very de-motivating.
Present situation is zero tolerance of ANY of this stuff left in any other areas cluttering the rest of the house, while I ignore spare room and his room as long as he keeps the doors closed! It works well most of the time, after a series of little battles to keep LR windowsills, mantlepiece & other flat surfaces clear. We still have the occasional row when he dumps things in the hall `just for now` or dumps a pile of his dirty washing on the sofa (usually when he`s expecting a visit from GF & is de-trashing his bedroom a bit).
It is a compromise, not ideal but at least it`s a lot easier now to deal with the rest of the house, the `normal` messy state generated by just living here and not being perfect, and just doing a bit more than `tickover` essentials when time and motivation coincide.0 -
We have a hall dumper too.
Yesterday he brought 2 weeks worth of plates, glasses and cutlery down and changed his bed, I need his gf to stay more often.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
