My home is a mess

Hi Messies!
Dibuzz, it IS nice to eventually be friends with the `ex`, isn`t it. There was a time I would never ever have imagined I`d say this, but my DS and my ex (first husband) are now real friends and I am glad. It`s funny, they call each other by first names (same name!) because to DS my second (late) hubby was `Dad`, the dear good man who brought him up, and the ex is the first to acknowledge this. My now OH is happy too that DS and his natural father get on well and that I can finally regard him as a friend too. Takes an awful lot of water under the bridge to reach this stage though.

Littly dog behaved very well at the pub, but if that many strangers were even anywhere near our gate she`d yap her head off and no stopping till they went away - but this was neutral ground and her `manners` were perfect. There were 2 other dogs there, and they just did a mutual sniff and tail wag and politely lost interest. Also, best of all, she didn`t seem at all bothered when OH or I went in to the bar or loo, so no signs of separation anxiety - we`ve had that before with other dogs when the home dynamic changed and it`s easier to deal with in early stages, so it was really a good evening in more ways than one. Made a stonking pork curry when we got home, too.
I`m quite pleased with today too -
2 WM loads washed and dried outside.
Some more sewing done, and pressed as well.
Had to do a bit of tidying/decluttering in DGD`s room before I started sewing as machine is in there, and it really wasn`t as bad as it looked at first.
Started and did 3 pages of letter to my best mate (not finished yet, I do infrequent but long ones!) AND had a great idea for her birthday pressie next month, just came to me as I was scribbling away to her.
Pretty good so far then, and it`s only mid-week.0 -
There are still times we both hate each other but after 20 years and 4 kids together I suppose there will always be something there.
I did a bit of tidying up and hoovering yesterday but didn't feel too good so slept a lot as well which is probably why I'm wide awake now.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Did some decluttering when we got home, took a couple of bags to the charity shop. Some clothes, but mainly glasses and kitchen stuff. Feels good to have less, and we'll be using the "nice" glasses and things.
Have some not very exciting jobs to do today, but not too much. Hope everyone's feeling OK today.0 -
Hi Messies!
I typed a longish post yesterday evening and it disappeared when I tried to post it - no great loss really, but quite annoying! I bathed Littly dog as it was the last of the hot weather for a bit. That was fun!! DS volunteered to clean the bathroom after us rather than actually help with the bathing bit!
I`ve been busy since early today, had a quick clean through and then got on with some sewing as it`s cooler today so no clammy fingers, listening to stuff on i-player as I sew and plodding away quite well with it.
I`m picking DGD up later for the weekend, and I keep thinking its later than it is.
Hope everyone`s having a nice Friday despite the glum weather. x0 -
I went for my 4 weekly check at the doc's yesterday, he has increased the dose on the AD which has made me feel a bit dopey again so I've only done the washing today. Dark rainy days don't help much either and youngest has just come in soaking wet so I'm trying to get his work clothes dry for tomorrow.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

Hi Messies!
Dibuzz, from what you say about your doc I`m sure he knows his stuff, and more important he knows you - hope the meds adjustment settles down and makes a difference for you. You are right about the dark rainy days too, they really increase the CBA factor!
Yesterday I was quite convinced it was Sunday. I was up early, didn`t have to go anywhere, and ate a huge pile of cheese on toast that knocked me out for a couple of hours! I curled up on the sofa and listened to radio stuff on i-player, half listened, half dozed, half thinking....had some thoughts about how to continue the birthday pressie I`m making for my best friend, and after a couple of lazy hours I got on with that.
I don`t normally eat a lot, or sleep, in the daytime.it`s just not me, but for once I felt better for it.
The thing I`m making is a cushion that looks like a cottage, with features sewn on like door, windows, windowboxes and flowers etc sewn on. I cannibalised an old pair of OH`s cord trousers with the @rse and knees gone (door & windowboxes) and a piece of cream linen for the doorstep, and even made a little stuffed cat to sew on the doorstep from a scrap of orange stretch velvet! I cut the hanging ribbon from a green top to make the stem for a sunflower, and rummaged around in my `bits` tins and found a few fancy press studs so one of those has made a lovely door knob. I`m really pleased with it so far, and I know my friend will love it!
I`m back to the thinking stage now, pondering how to attach a little chimney and what to use for the chimney pot....
In such a good mood after my burst of creativity I did a sort of tagine with sweet potato, leftover pork, and wrinkly peppers... then found a severe shortage of cutlery!
SO, sent DGD on a mission to reclaim any pots or cutlery from her dad - he let her get on with it as I was in a good mood! After a good soak we now have a stack of clean pots and mugs and cutlery, so that`s another plus for what I`d called a `lazy` day!
Today I feel quite relaxed and positive - despite it being the last day of my week off - because I`m NOT beating myself up about things I haven`t done!! OK, I could have spent the week doing a lot more decluttering and cleaning, but I didn`t, and the house did not fall down!
The garden is a mess, but we`ve had a pair of Jays visiting, and we`ve seen lots of young Chaffinches and Goldfinches on the feeders, as well as the various others, and now there`s a Woodpecker out there - they evidently approve of messy garden!!
I`ve no idea yet what I`ll cook for tonight - better have a freezer rummage now and find something to thaw....
I hope everyone`s having a good weekend, if you`ve been de-messifying, fine, and if not just don`t stress about mess. x0 -
Still feeling a bit odd but getting used to it I think.
I think the best thing my PWP taught me was to relax and do things I like which I'd got out of the habit of doing. If I spend a whole afternoon lying on the sofa watching tv I don't feel guilty like I would have in the past.
Your cushion sound lovely, I'm sure your friend will be delighted with it.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
That`s the key, I reckon - feeling guilty about doing things to relax, or not doing something `useful` - some of us get into that habit and it`s hard to get out of.
Crazy thing about it is I think it`s often self-inflicted. Nobody has ever attempted to make me feel guilty about not being efficient at keeping the house tidy and organised. (I`d have told them where to go if they had!) It`s quite the opposite, it`s ME who sees the mess, who apologises for it - my menfolk have never really noticed it, nor passed critical comments if they do. Even back in the days when we fostered, I`ve apologised for `the mess` to social workers who just said things like they`d rather visit happy chaos than a show home.
I`ve got some chicken thigh fillets thawed and cooking, found some tired mushrooms in fridge so it`ll be chicken in mushroom sauce, steamed salad potatoes, carrots & broccoli.
I`ve also got WM on, and another load ready to go in - but my thoughts are elsewhere, I`m still thinking about how to make the chimney for my cushion....0 -
Same here, I've always felt like I should always be doing something.
Youngest 2 only got in at 4am after a night out in Liverpool, daughter finally surfaced at 3.30pm desperate for McDonald's and "little" brother agreed so didn't have to make them anything14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
I managed two loads of washing, but not ironing them as OH had sardines for lunch. The kitchen is stinking.
Your cushion sounds great, Emm.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0
