YL, my OH is kind and considerate too, but genuinely doesn`t notice stuff that needs doing. My DS might notice, but always procrastinates everything.

Linda - you`ve hit the nail on the head - if we attempt to delegate it has to be very specific and also simple! (And in DS`s case catch him with a request when he`s on his feet already in the room where the task is required!!)

I gave some thought yesterday to what YL said about relaxation time being important. Now, this may not quite be relaxing, but it was `me` time, doing stuff I wanted to do, and I feel quite pleased about it -
Sewing - I`ve finished a top, trousers (all but the leg hems) and a floaty jacket thing, not relaxing, fiddly bit even on the machine, and much growling at sewing machine and bits of cotton everywhere...but this is for a wedding in July and it was bugging me that things weren`t getting finished, so that`s one stressy thing sorted.
I also did a `2 Greedy Italians` pork loin in honey and ginger recipe - couldn`t find the actual recipe so put it on i-player and kept pausing that part to take notes. (I love that sort of cooking when I`m experimenting with a new idea, so this was sort of `me` time too.)
I made a mess with the sewing, and cleared it up.
I made a mess in the kitchen, and cleared that up.
The pork dish was lovely, and loads left so same again tonight.

Today, just a couple of WM loads, and I`m trying to persuade myself to colour my hair...

Ah but thats just the thing isnt it. Relaxing doesnt have to be lying on your back listening to whale music (although it can be if you want). Its all about having some time to do something you want to do rather than something you have to do. And I have said it before Emm but I admire your practical skills, especially with the sewing.

So today I have done a couple of hours studying and passed one of my modules which made me feel very pleased with myself. I have made my nails look pretty and taken the dog for a long walk.

Next I am going to put some washing away and gently potter for a while.

Making time for myself is something my pwp encouraged me to put in my weekly plan, relaxing in the bath listening to music, lazing around watching tv on a Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours and going for a drive just because I can are the main ones.

Sorry I've not been around for a few days, not been feeling too good and have been sleeping a lot but starting to feel a bit better.
I'm going to make a huge effort to finish painting my room this week as we have ordered 2 bookcases which are coming on Friday along with eldest's new computer desk.

    Hi Messies!
Just had quite a nice day at work, but really tired now.
YL, the sewing was just something I grew up with as my mum injured her knee so she taught me to use the old treadle sewing machine when I was 10! I`m quite lacking in other practical skills though. Funny, I can cut cloth without wrecking it but wouldn`t know where to start with wallpaper, and I`m naff with a paintbrush too - my last attempt at nail varnish even looked like a child had done it badly!
Dibuzz, hope you feel better now, and good luck with the painting. Having a deadline might help.

It`s SO hot here now I`ve changed my mind about tea - NOT putting the oven on tonight, will do chicken thighs in a heavy pot on the hob instead. I`ve even left my hair up since work as it`s cooler!
Have a nice evening all. x

    Hello again!
I had the house to myself for a few hours today, and I`ve found another variation on `me` time - and getting some de-messifying done at the same time.
I LOVE listening to short stories or dramas on R4 and 4Extra, it`s the luxury feeling of being read to. But I seldom seem to catch them when they`re on air, when I can carry the radio around with me. I only have access to i-player in LR, and if I put something on there`s usually interruptions or I potter out of the room as I can`t just sit...
Today I`ve had a real radio-fest, catching up on lots of good stuff, and at the same time I have cleaned the computer desk, screen, keyboard, speakers, the whole corner of the room has been dusted and wiped...then I cleaned the LR radiator, light switches, corner lampshade and main lampshade, then doors and doorframes. It almost looks like freshly decorated!!
Still got dust-buffaloes lurking for Henry to gobble, but they`ll live to lurk another day - can`t Henry while listening to radio!

I have enjoyed myself today, the self-indulgence was therapeutic - and now I can see a big improvement in the room as well.

    Sounds good Emm.

I've had a clear out in the walk in cupboard in my room and filled 2 bin bags for the charity shop then put some other stuff in there so it's back to being a lean in cupboard but there's more space in my room now and I should be able to finish the painting tomorrow or Thursday.

Me too! I bet a lot of people dont even know they are on there. I listened to a really good play yesterday about a soldier coming back from Iraq and I got some paperwork sorted at the same time. OH listens to them when he cant sleep and sometimes wakes up with his headphones still in.

You and Dibuzz both seem to have been very productive. I have done some work on both jobs and managed to hoover the whole of the downstairs and wash the kitchen, utility and downstairs loo floors. Looks like tomorrow is going to be good weather, might get OH to put our sheets in the wm before he goes to work in the morning.

Lurker here popping in to suggest audio books from the library as alternative to radio. My local library has them on small mp3 type players, ideal for carrying in a pocket.

I plug in my headphones while doing boring stuff like washing dishes and when I'm knitting or crocheting.

Inspired by DH, who got up super early to exercise this morning I got going early too and did some ironing and pressed all outstanding quilt pieces. So that's very much worst first.

I've done a few other small tasks and that's it. Doing a bonus shift at the charity shop today so will be out, and not making a mess, this afternoon. Have a good day everyone.
