It's been a strange day again.
I was just on the way to get paint for my bedroom when my mum rang to ask if I wanted to go to the garden centre with her so we arranged to meet back here after I'd got the paint. I even managed to talk to the assistant about paint when she asked what I was after so was feeling good driving home.
I also talked to the neighbour over the road till my mum arrived which is another thing I find hard, usually I just dash into the house.
As we were walking round looking at plants and talking about the gardens I said I needed to make an effort to do the front garden but that's the one I find hardest, she asked why and I said it was because there are more people about. I should have known better than say anything, she said very loudly "oh for goodness sake don't be ridiculous, you are just stupid" Is it any wonder I don't usually tell her things?
I've found it hard to get motivated after that so haven't done the painting I planned to do.
It's a bit late to start it now so I think it's an early night and start again tomorrow.

Dibuzz, you were (ARE!) doing so well hun, PLEASE don`t let your mum`s reaction set you back. She`s just gone for that response because it`s all she knows, and you know better. Maybe that`s what would have been said to her once, and she really just doesn`t understand, and maybe never will - whereas if someone had told you stuff like that you`d be sensitive and understand. You are NOT ridiculous or stupid, so get that silly exchange out of your head and don`t feel `put down`. (Up to you what you tell your ma in future, but I`d suggest just telling her you don`t need stuff like that at present.)
When I read your post tonight I instantly thought of a bit of music that meant a lot to me, and to OH (separately, back then) a few years back. Tom Petty, `Rhino Skin` - it`s on U-tube, sorry can`t do links cos I`m carp at it, but please do have a listen. It might help. Helped both of us, was my `anthem` for a while, played over & over.

I`m only posting now because OH has been fed (chicken & steamed veg again , I`m taking opportunity to eat healthier chicken/salad & brown bread) and gone to bed early. Better than yesterday but not right. DGD in residence, canneloni in microwave, & her uniform is washed - she`s like a breath of fresh air in the house, Bless her.
But, OH isn`t `right`and I`m unsettled. Dibuzz, I know your sleep pattern is a bit wonky too, so I`m posting late as it is.
SO - what colour paint have you got?
How early are you starting? I almost feel like getting up early tomorrow to cheer you on! It`s YOUR room, your bit of space and I so want to hear you enjoy doing this thing....
I go for YELLOW everywhere I can get away with it! (bedroom, kitchen, LR) Have to vary the shade though, and put a bit of cream/orange/terra cotta in there too.
Hope you sleep well & get an early start with that paint. x

My mum has no patience or understanding of mental illness, she sees it as a weakness. She sometimes moans if she hears something I've not told her about but apart from her lack of understanding she will tell everyone she knows so I normally keep things to myself.

I've been going to bed between 9 and 10 then waking up around midnight for a few hours, if I'm lucky I manage another hour or so but at least I'm gettting through my collection of books.

It's actually yellow I'm getting rid of but it is a very bright yellow as it was my daughter's favourite colour at the time and it used to be her room. Just getting rid of the Harry Potter stickers has made a difference.
The paint I got is a pale neutral colour, I think it's called sandstone but it's only a small room so I didn't want anything dark.
I did some more clearing out before I went to bed and have a few things I'm going to try to fit into the shed. I've thrown away a lot of things that I kept "just in case" so will probably find a use for them now but it was time to have a good de-clutter.

I hope your OH feels better sooon, at least he had the decency to wait till your treatment was over ;)

    Morning all!!

Dibuzz - I can sympathise with you on the 'mother' front!! Mine has no comprehension of what mental illness is like, she quite regularly says to me 'give yourself a shake' when i'm not feeling 100%. I also don't tell her things as her reaction would be similar to your mothers, which is what you don't need. I've got to the stage where i have to force myself to pop in to see my mother even though she lives just next door, but the thought of what she might say is quite terrifying sometimes!! God i sound like a total wimp!! Anyway, big hugs dibuzz, hope the painting goes well!! xx

I've just made a trifle for our pudding tonight, making pizza when we are back from tennis later. Swept kitchen floor as it was a bit 'crunchy' haha!

    Have a good day!

    J
    xx

    Hi Messies!

Dibuzz, my DD had sandstone colour in her bedroom a little while back (dunno what colour she`s got now as she keeps changing - she`s keen with a paint roller!) and I thought it looked really nice - neutral enough, as you say, but a warm colour too. Not surprised you feel glad to be rid of the Harry Potter stuff though!

FW - Pizza & trifle sounds gorgeous. I`m still sticking to simple meals for OH, just trying to vary the steamed veg a bit - he`s not getting bored yet so I can hardly complain that I`m bored cooking it.
Not much done here today, just the basics. I`m considering going for a mooch round car-boot sale tomorrow, but depends what time I`m up and how the weather looks.

    Good evening, all!

Keeping up with the place really is better, I feel better for it and the house looks good.

Dibuzz, just vent into your painting.

I've not started painting yet, still sorting through stuff but I've decided to get rid of the huge wardrobe and youngest said he will have it. It will need dismantling to get it out of the room but his room is a lot bigger than mine so it will be better in there.
I had an hour in the garden and have turned over about 5 feet of overgrown border. I was going to do some more after a break but daft son locked the keys in the shed so I had to wait for him to take the door off and retrieve them :rotfl:

Yes, digging is good for that, you can imagine who you want to bury under the azaleas ;)
I'm going to try to get the wardrobe out of the way tomorrow then there will be more room to do the painting.
I remember doing the boys' room when they were little and we had 3 single beds, 3 wardrobes, plus loads of toys in there.
I couldn't get the ladders in so ended up balanced on toy boxes on top of the beds, not exactly safe but was quite fun at the time although I think I'm a bit old for that now.

    Hi Messies!

Dibuzz, hope the wardrobe dismantling went well. I once used DS`s toy garage as a step to hang some new curtains in his room - it was very robust strong plastic, plus I was only about half the weight I am now!!

Today I`ve done hardly anything indoors, but I`ve cut a big patch of long tussocky grass plus the dead dandelions and daffs - cleared the patch under 3 apple trees! All by hand with shears, too. I`m pooped now... had to do it because this is the part under the birdfeeders and there was just too much cover for the cat to hunt from - some of the birds are ground feeders and like to go for the spilt bits, so it was getting too dangerous for them.
I`ve also raked all the cuttings down the garden (picture old-fashioned haymaking...) and broken the rake handle. Now I have a huge haystack and a short rake, and lots of muscles telling me off....
