Hello all!!
Welcome to the new messies!!
I've had a quick catch up with posts!
dibuzz - hope things improve for you soon, maybe the change of meds will help? Big hugs!
chi-me - I did laugh at the thought of your toes thanking you for tidying the cupboard!1 I used to have that problem but after a good sort out my toes are much happier!! :rotfl:
Stephb1986 - Sounds a bit complicated at your house at the moment, you really need to have a talk with your husband and fil.
Well, down on the farm it's been a gorgeous day, got all my washing dried on the line, will have to iron tomorrow i think. Mr farmer has just announced that we are to have a new bathroom, much excitement!!! The bathroom suite in this house has been in since 1989!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait, but feel that i should make more of an effort with keeping the rest of the house tidy before we get the new bathroom put in!
Hope you've all had a good day!!
JxxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Chi-me - hello!! Sounds like you're getting things in order, and I love that you're taking charge and showing life what's what. Good for you. One cupboard at a time sounds like the plan for me - baby steps are good.
I did make my bed today, and it *does* make a huge difference to the room. Now to get rid of all the piles of laundry... argh!
I am going to shine my sink tomorrow morning. Nearly finished the washing up tonight (though doing another big meal now, so will have a load more - I love cooking, which is part of the problem!) and so it shouldn't be too bad tomorrow.
The cupboards however are another story...0 -
I've had a strange day, felt really restless and had to keep moving even though I had less than 2 hours sleep.
It was lovely out this morning so I cleaned eldest son's car, moved a bit of stuff around in my room then went to see my neighbours in the care home this afternoon. I love seeing them but always come out crying, I hate leaving them there especially Barbara as she always begs me to take her home. I don't think she knows who I am now but knows she knows me if that makes sense. It's almost a year since they went in and I know it was for the best but it's still hard to see them like that.
Aww, bless you. It's hard isn't it. I work with the elderly and I've lost count of the number of tears I've shed over the years
Sometimes lack of sleep causes us to join a very strange zone, autopilot status almost. My daughter was jet lagged when she returned from living in Shanghai, after delays and many hours on board her plane we collected her from the airport in the worst snow storm for years. It took a further 12 hours stuck on the motorway to get home (really!) Should have taken an hour on a good run. Anyhoo, she jibber-jabbered all the time, like she was on fast forward... very odd :money:0 -
MandM90 - I think a routine would be great, though what I do each day varies... but I'm sure I could think of something.
At the moment I've got plastic baskets holding some of my dried food stuff, but they're often untidy and overflowing.
I could totally eat out of my cupboards, but I'm a real foodie and I like to have choices! Plus I love fresh veggies so I'd have to have loads of them in too...
I have been thinking about wire shelving - I like under shelf baskets like this one, and also saw this really cool cup holder for in cupboards
But I'm REALLY skint, so can't really afford to buy anything new0 -

Good for you hun!! :T
I've tidied and washed out the avalanche cupboard and teleported over a pile of seldom used other heavy junk to the previous Kenwood Chef cupboard (this also needs blitzing but not today ). I've put chilli for me (and to freeze LO's) in the slowcooker, OH's savoury mince (chilli wuss) is in the oven on low for when he gets back for his break at 19:30. All washing up done and when we've eaten I will shine my sink
:D Then, my time's my own until he gets home at 11:30ish and we go to bed. Ah, I'm in control... for now

Haha! Kindred spirits I think. You're off and flying already! Brilliant and well done:D:D
I LOVE LOVE LOVE cooking, eating and watching or reading about cookery. It's the confounded washing up that's the issue, no dishwasher here either and a 1 bed flat to bootI'm truly having to make myself do some of the Flylady steps but for the past week, the bed, the sink, the loo and the floor have all been attended to
I'm choosing small de-cluttering areas aka the avalanche drawer in the kitchen today. Tomorrow, I plan to do all the above AND *drum roll please* clean the bath and basin in the bathroom, oohhh yush

Hello to everyone,
I agree about the bed making. When I first started sorting out my old house the bed was my "shiny sink" it was the start of everything. It's such a small thing but it made a massive difference to me.
In terms of routines I have "minimums" the things that have to happen to keep things ticking over no matter how busy the day is - dealing with pets, making the bed, swish and swipe, wipe worktops, have a two minute tidy, DH washes up.
You don't have to have done the washing up to have a shiny sink. I had two washing up bowls for a really long time, one was in use, the other held some of the dirty dishes. It meant I could still clean virtually everything and get off to a good start. Then I could start chipping away at the washing up and eventually I was on top of it. Getting rid of a lot of dishes also worked well for us.
dibuzz, I can understand how hard it is to leave the home when you've been visiting. You're so lovely to visit.
stephb, you have my sympathy, I agree with Emm, communication is the key to making things easier for you. good luck.
Emm, I appreciate all the good advice and support you offer to everyone.
I didn't mean to make my MIL anything other than the lovely person she is, it's important to me to have everything nice for when she comes over. I think she's doing us a massive favour so I want to show I appreciate it by having everything looking as nice as it can. Plus, it will be nice to come home to a clean house!0 -
I've been to see my PWP this morning, he's pleased with my progress so far.
I've only got 2 sessions left now and will miss going to see him (it does help that he is gorgeous lol)
Having a plan of things to do for the week seems to be helping a lot so I think I will have to keep that up.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -

Hello Messies!
Welcome Boakster, Chi-me and Mand.
I too have a tiny, over-filled, ill-designed kitchen, love cooking and can`t resist getting more stuff (that`s edibles and equipment!) than I need.
No room for a dishwasher, but I`ve never fancied having one as washing up is my `start here` job while I think what I have to tackle next.
Cupboards tend to hold stuff that gets forgotten, especially stuff at the back!
Lots of stuff on worktops (to remind me to use)
I have over-door racks to hang as much as I can , most of my pans are hanging from a rail too, and a pan-lid hanging rack on on of the cupboard doors. These are things I`ve picked up very cheaply at car-boot sales mostly, so if they didn`t really suit my purpose after all I could re-think and try something else.
I also have a dresser in LR that holds quite a bit of kitcheny stuff tidily. And an old caravan (read `shed`!) in the garden for storage stash too. If everything had to be kept in the kitchen I wouldn`t be able to squeeze in there to cook anything!
Dibuzz, it`s lovely that you visited the home, and I`m sure it did your old neighbour a lot of good even though it`s so sad for you. Hope the appt went well this morning.
FW, new bathroom sounds exiting. The old stuff might be valuable to antique fanciers to do up, too.
Alec E - thanks for your kind words. I`m sure your MIL appreciates your efforts.
Stephb - good luck with the job interview(s), will keep fingers crossed for you.

Well, I took OH for his appt (work-related) yesterday, then afterwards he had a pain in his chest - SO, straight to A&E with him and to cut a long story short they found his heart is fine but he`s got a hiatus hernia. Other tests were ok, so after a few hours and IV meds they let him out, but to see GP this afternoon.
As we spent all yesterday pm out not much done here, but it was a worrying time and at times like this the housework is the last thing to think about! He did get some sleep but had to use spare pillows plus cushions to sleep propped up, plus painkillers. Now it`s all a bit `wait and see`, if it`ll settle down with meds or need further treatment.
Another bother - our water is going off tomorrow but they don`t say what time or how long for. Great. Let`s deal with today first....
Have a nice afternoon all. x0
