Good Morning Messies!
At LAST! The sun is shining and it`s not raining here.... I got up early full of beans (despite having quite a late night last night) and came downstairs to find a wet patch on LR woolly rug (Dear Old Daftie-dog, taken short again) so WM on and LR floor mopped first thing....
Sinkful of pots, now done & put away.
No list made yet, but had Deep Speech with DGD last night about her room, so hopefully when she`s up & breakfasted we might tackle it together today.
Next-door-neighbour came round yesterday evening, the one from what we call the quiet side. We rarely see them, friendly nice folks but always at work or away visiting family, so it was nice to have a natter. She was pretty down, and needed a good unload, Bless`er, and she`s a Messy too though you`d never guess it. Just the 2 of them, and the dog, but with her OH`s half-done DIYing and her working and not being able to chuck things out... oh yes, she`s definitely one of Us! We found we share a lot of OS ideas too, now feel I have another friend, not just a neighbour.
I`m doing stir-fry this evening, and experimenting with Japanese pancakes for/with DGD (her request) so in between I think there`s a fair chance of sorting her room. That WILL involve a large CS bag, so I think a general sweep of the house for more CS stuff while we`re at it might be a great idea.
Have a nice Saturday folks. x0 -
I understand about the half done DIY.
We have so many half done jobs here mainly started by the son who moved out and I never see.
He had good intentions when he started them but never finished anything.
We had 3 bags of cement in the hall for about 2 years for a plastering job that didn't even get started.
The hall floor is laminate but badly cut so even if we had the edging it would have huge gaps (although I still prefer it to the manky carpet it replaced)
He changed a light switch which worked but the upstairs switch turned on the downstairs light and vice versa.
Our kitchen is bare brick half glossed and half papered with several layers which just won't come off, the sink is somehow holding up as long as you don't lean on it but the cupboard underneath has virtually rotted away. This is what the cement was for but it never got done.
No wonder I hate this house
Everything I try to do goes wrong too, I've had the living room half stripped for 18 months but the plaster started coming off with the paper in places so I'm scared of carrying on.
I think it would be easier to keep on top of things if it wasn't all falling apart.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Cold, wet and windy (talking about the weather, not me :rotfl:)
dibuzz so with you on the half done DIY, there's not a single room in my house that I can walk into and be happy about. I think that just drags the mood down further and leaves me even less inclined to deal with it because I don't know where to start (doesn't help that the ironing pile is still spread over four rooms so it doesn't look as bad - also makes me think that DD and DS have far to many clothes so I feel a cash for clothes trip coming on when I'm next off and they're in school. Some of their stuff's been in the ironing pile for months so they've obviously not missed it) Perhaps if I can clear some of the clutter I may be a tad more inclined to deal with the rest.
Only two weeks till half term so the plan is little but more often between now and then, then during half term I am going to reclaim my kitchen worktops :j I love cooking but find it too much of a chore at the moment while I have to continually shift stuff around (most of which shouldn't even be there) just to be able to cook.
I do have something of an "I need it" issue when it comes to kitchen equipment though (who really needs three veg peelers (one shaped like a carrot), eleven pans of various sizes and a three tier steamer, more mugs/glasses than I can put away at any one time (there are only three of us here), five pastry brushes, three rolling pins, a melon baller, butter curler and other similar items that haven't been used for about twenty years... and probably a partridge in a pear tree :rotfl:
Off to find whatever I can from the washing basket (which has spilled all over the landing despite having already done two loads today). The cunning plan is to only wash things I can out away without ironing so my ironing mountain doesn't become an even bigger challenge0 -
Dibuzz, I`m scared to even think about any decorating, because a bit of fresh paint ANYWHERE would instantly show everywhere else up! And there`s a bit of cat-scratched wallpaper beside the chimney breast from kitten days but I`m just hanging on to the hope that visitors might think it`s only just happened...
Mummybobble, I`m with you on the kitchen stuff - do I REALLY need 4 spice racks, as well as 2 little plastic baskets with herbs & seasonings, as well as what`s in one of the drawers...?
Messy Status Report.
DGD`s room (downstairs) has yielded a binbag full of rubbish, one for CS, and 2 WM loads, plus lots of hangers that were on the floor and not being used. It`s still looking like a bombsite, and her bed is still covered with stuff to sort. Just stopped for a quick coffee, must go crack the whip again.....0 -
Morning all!!
Very windy here at the moment, i have to go outside and do some 'farm jobs' this morning but i keep putting it off! So i've got the mince in the oven for tonights shepherds pie and i've made a tiramisu for the pudding.
I did a bit of tidying yesterday, emptied the bins in the bedrooms and bathroom. My son has been having nose bleeds lately and i've discovered spots of blood in nearly every room in the house!! He had one in the shower last night, it looks like somebody has been trying to butcher a pig in there!! Will clean bathroom before i head out i think.
Have a good day!
JxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Good Morning Messies!
Monday has come round again, dull, cold & windy here but at least it`s not raining. (yet..) FW - wrap up warm lass!
Yesterday was quite productive - more carp out of DGD`s room, ready for Henrying today, though we still haven`t tackled the storage boxes under the bed. They`ll keep till she`s back with us again though, at least we`ll have clear floor space to sort them on. We took Littly dog out for a good walk and a play while it was dry, as there`s more to life than tidying a bedroom!
Also I did a massive paperwork cull, I think the many hospital information leaflets and appointment letters I`ve accumulated had been breeding with the junk mail....all gone for recycling with bin collection today, and a couple of forms filled in ready to post today.
I made some strange `duck pasties` with leftovers & frozen puff pastry from feezer for supper, a `tired veg` soup to go with them, and that was a hit. Also soaked some chana dal to make a tarka dal with a curry for tonight.
Today-
Dry laundry put away (mostly towels).
Trash-trawl (recycling empty stuff)/tidy in bathroom.
Kitchen -pots/sinks/tops cleaned up, plus kettle & steamer cleaned. I intend to get the curry started early, and might tackle the kitchen floor after that. It certainly needs it....
Henry is still in bedroom, so I`m going to have a quick whizz round upstairs before bringing him down to do DGD`s room & hall carpet (got trashed with fluff & stuff out of her bedroom at weekend.)
LR - badly needs dusting, but otherwise not too bad.
CS stuff and a bag for the skip are in back of car, but I might leave that run for tomorrow. DS is away tonight, so the cat will want to cosy down with me, OH & the dogs - they are quite funny together, Littly-dog & puss are still `testing the boundaries` a bit!
Lots of good intentions, better go make a start! Have a nice day all. x0 -
Hello again...
Progress Report (intended to spur myself on..)
Henried upstairs, brought him down with me...
Did CS & skip run as I had to go out to post office to get stamps to post forms.
Curry (pork shoulder steaks & sweet potato, both diced) festering with itself, v.N.Slater, and starting to smell very nice. Garlic softening in butter ready to start on tarka dal. Glad I put dry laundry away as the whole house smells very curryish now....
Just stopped for a quick coffee then going to Henry DGD`s room. Feels like I`ve got a lot done already, but I can`t really foresee the kitchen floor getting mopped today.0 -
Afternoon messies,
Well I watched the American Superbowl last night and was going through some magazines to clear out while the game was on. Managed to get through about 20, so half of one pile and without missing a beat of the game. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Very unmotivated today.
Been to docs and he's decided I need meds
Don't think mr tc understands...sorry I digress.
I have only done 2 loads of washing today!GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Morning
I am another one who has a house that needs things doing to it. I sometimes dream of moving to a shiny new house where everything is bright, clean and brand new instead of scuffed, grubby and in need of tlc.
After much umming and ahhing OH and I have final splashed out £200 on a new mattress. I havent been sleeping very well which is really unusual for me and our mattress was very old. Well last night was the first night on the new mattress and I hate it  it seemed very comfy in the shop but I found it too squidgy and too warm (its a memory foam one). So another rubbish nights sleep and I am slightly panicking now.
Oh and DS1 woke me up scared by the wind outside which didnt help. Paid stuff in both jobs today and the car is going into the garage so fingers crossed it wont be too expensive!0
