Hi Messies!
Dibuzz (((HUGS))) & keeping everything crossed for your dog on Monday. I have huge confidence in vets, and hopefully yours is justified in her optimism. No wonder you don`t feel like doing housey stuff either!
Kayester, I`m always relieved when bins get emptied after a bank holiday - especially when it`s very windy and stuff gets blown around if the collection is late. We`re at the end of a cul-de-sac/wind-tunnel and other folks` carp always gets blown to the front of our house & next doors!
FW, no wonder you were cross about the delay noting your son`s blood results. Dec 16th was well before the `silly season` too, so that`s no excuse! Hope he`s feeling better soon, and you as well. Foul weather doesn`t help either!
Alec E, I hope that high tide doesn`t get too high. We don`t flood in our patch, but yesterday the next village uphill from here had a power cut all day!
Messy Status Report-
LR & Kitchen floors reached Critical Mass this morning. It`s funny how this can seem to happen overnight.... so, I`ve changed all the rugs, dog beds & mats, some washed/others still in WM queue, Henried hall, LR & kitchen, and mopped kitchen and LR. Madness really, as every dog, cat or human foot will mess it up again very fast as it`s so wet & muddy outside.
All the decs gone except the tree - wasn`t difficult as it was just a few bits of tinselly stuff and cards. I`ll leave tree till 6th,
and then there`s the Aldi gingerbread house...I`m collecting DGD from her mum`s in a bit - she wants to come for the weekend as usual even though DS is away, to `help look after me`. I`m quite looking forward to having her as I`ve not seen her since Christmas day, she`s been away visiting the other grandparents. That`s probably why the gingerbread house is till intact....0 -
Hello  - FA kindly pointed me in the direction of this awesome thread. Had a quick flick through some of the more recent posts but decided to get a cuppa (thanks FA!
) and read through some older posts for motivation/inspiration.
A bit about me? Well, my mess has gotten the better of me and I feel completely overwhelmed. The cats seem to have run of the household, I have a hoarder hubby, and I just can't seem to shift anything. "Stuff" just seems to be everywhere and I have no idea how or why most of it is here!
Thanks to all the incredible replies I had on my other post, I feel a bit less alone now in my journey to have a tidy, and happy, home. This thread looks like it could also be a really motivator for me as well. So if you don't mind, I think I might just settle in.
Last night hubby did all the washing up - tidy kitchen always makes things a bit better! Today I've managed to clean out litter trays properly, put a load of washing on,hang another lot up, and put some (but not all) clean clothes away.
The lounge certainly looks a little less cluttered which is nice.
Thanks again for having me. xxxYou can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me. ~ C.S. Lewis0 -
Hello All
I found you via the other threadI would like to join you, if you will have me? My house has got into a bit of a state lately, it needs sorting out and I need to find the motivation to do it. I think a lot of my issues come from living with an ex where I would get shouted about an untidy house (it wasn't actually that bad then although I didn't tidy that much as I didn't want to give in to him) when he left I thought great I can do what I like and don't have to tidy
I need to get passed that feeling, that tiding up is doing something just because its whats expected of me and start to do it because its what I WANT and not something that I did just to keep the peace.
I have download the app Unf*k your habitiat and subscribed to the blog, I must admit some of the before and after pictures made me feel alot better about my place. I like that idea on the app of 20 mins tidy and 10 mins off, the motivational tips seem to be quite funny (please be aware if you are going to download it there is bad language in themI don't personally swear but when it is used it that context I find it quite funny)
I hope to post most days updating on my progress and catching up with however everyone else is getting on.
Now off to tidy the kitchen and try out the 20/10 timer. Motivation tip is "This is not hard! You're just being lazy" very true:o
Happy new year all0 -
iammumtoone long time no see
I just had a look at that app but it costs £1.22 on my phone....will download when I have a little spare cash
your situation with the house sounds very similar to mine, being told what to do. I am starting to get on top of things now and set myself a little rota216/2018 (make ££ in 2018)

I looked at that but my mess will take time to sort and can only be done by me, so it is a bit pointless. Most of the tasks that I currently do are already covered by another app that I use to remind me to do tasks on set days, and works pretty well apart from the big pile. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Hi all
Jps, hope you are on the mend, take care of yourself. And FW hope your son is on the mend now, mine seems to be suffering a bit but I think its all the chocolate and fizzy drinks he has had!
Been feeling really tired for the last couple of days. I think the late nights I had earlier in the week are catching up with me.
Welcome to new messies. And fingers crossed that no-one gets flooded or suffers any storm damage.
I am going to take the decs down tomorrow. I need to work too and get up to date with my 2nd job. Oh and I have a friends tax return to sort as well. No rest for the wicked!0 -
Hi all and Happy New Year
I am as messy as ever - the house looks like a Chinese laundry, Xmas decs still to come down but I have done a meal plan for the whole month so not all bad.
I hope that by knowing what dinner is in advance will mean I can get on with other stuff whilst it is cooking
I don't make resolutions but I do intend to keep up with you all this year, encouraging, cajoling and enjoying each other's trials and happy times
All the best0 -
Hi everyone. I'd like to properly jump back in after a long absence.
House is fairly tidy and clean at the mo as I've had to spend a lot of my time sorting it for visitors. Not a bad thing and am SO enjoying the restful feeling of being in a tidy house.
Know it won't last though. Stuff already starting to pil up in kitchen. My challenge is to keep on top of it all.
I've a busy full time job so won't be posting here much, but would very much like to join in, with the hope that it will help to focus my attention on keeping a tidier house.
My aim (not for the first time) is that my home is always tidy enough that I won't feel ashamed to let someone in if they turn up unannounced. Most of the time I fail miserably.0 -
I have decided to tackle one room at a time. Starting with the bathroom. Then the kitchen which is pretty clear and tidy already. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Hello Messies!
It`s lovely to have new Messies on board, and returning Messies too. Welcome/Welcome back all.
We all have slightly, or even very different reasons for our Messy status, some of them are within our control and some aren`t, some are down to others in the household and some are just down to us - so it figures that we`ll find different strategies that work best for us. The reason I`ve found this thread so helpful is that however well or badly we`re doing at any particular time we can come here and say so without fear of judgement, SHARE our successes and epic fails, let off steam and encourage each other`s efforts.
I`ve seen several sites/blogs etc that give advice/tips/routines to follow, but not stuff I would realistically keep up with. Also, I`ve seen a few that are so annoying (not for swearing, but for seeming so smug or patronising!) that I just want to slap the blogger!! Taking a tip from here/there is fine though - I particularly like the timer thing, and I`ve seen that mentioned in quite a few different places.
One thing I WILL say, that is when you`ve finally got ONE room `right` it is a lot easier to keep on top of it without too much time/effort, and it`s encouraging & motivating to tackle somewhere else if you get an `onwards & upwards sort of day - or just to tread water when you don`t.
Have a nice evening all.x0
