My home is a mess

Emm, so glad you are ok and having a good Christmas.
Lovely to hear from everyone else too, I may prefer being alone for the most part, but I do like to know how folks are doing and hear about it!
I now have a mild cold, which has set my asthma off (I guess cleaning the extremely dusty bedroom didn't help either). I will seek advice if it doesn't clear up in a day or two - I learned that lesson the hard way! I know it's not logical but I'm feeling cross that a cold got me after I've had the flu jab!
Emm a colony of sparrows is around my garden all the time, for food and roosting. I'm not sure where they nest but it can't be far away because they're here every spring with the fledglings teaching them to use the feeders
There seem to be a lot more bluetits around this year too.
Having a lovely lazy day today - I always have to go out on Christmas day to visit family so Boxing day is my lazy day spent in front of the telly wearing pyjamas.
Just debating whether to watch tv or dvds now and pouring a little glass of sherry... cheers everyone :beer:I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Morning all!
JPS - keep an eye on that cold!!
Emm - Hugs x
Well, our electricity went off about 2 hours ago, i'm having a quick look on here while the tractor is running the generator to cool the milk from this mornings milking! Then it will be switched off until milking time this afternoon. SOoooo windy and rainy here, we are on the coast and are bearing the full force of the gales at the moment. I do however have great sympathy for all the people that have had their homes flooded this week, we are lucky that we won't ever be flooded. I know it's awful to have no power but can't imagine what it must be like to lose your belongings etc to flood water.
We're going to my parents for lunch (turkey again!) they live next door so the wind will blow us round the corner at lunchtime!
The ironing pile is still lurking.
JxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Well you can't iron with no power J
No rain here but the wind has got up and blown a heavy bench from the decking onto the lawn.
The fences have survived, probably because they are so rotten that the wind is going through them :rotfl:14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Good Morning Messies!
FW it`s very galey here too, but power still on. You do sound very organised there though (apart from the ironing, which quite frankly I rate absolute bottom of any priority list!!) Enjoy your lunch, and hope your leccy is back on very soon.
JPS, mollycoddle that cold and take it easy! I know what you mean about resenting it - I rarely get a cold and feel quite indignant when I do. Doesn`t make sense really, when I can be so laid back about major stuff! It is good to know that sparrows are doing well again. We have a huge unkempt privet area between us & noisy next-doors, and it`s quite loud whenever we open the back door, there`s so much sparrow-chirping.
Dibuzz, we wondered what the banging noise was, and found it was the lid of the garden storage bench flapping up & down - too full of junk to blow away though!
Today I`ve cleaned & shined the kitchen sink/drainer, and note that the floor is getting crunchy again. I`ve done 1 WM load, now draped in doorways upstairs. Was thinking of driving the car (just to local co-op, to see how I got on) but decided not to because of the wind, and don`t really need anything today - bread & milk tomorrow will be a must though.
Looking for something to potter at, I didn`t really fancy tidying bedroom so ended up poking about in corners...
There`s a 2" space between top of WM and the worktop above it. I have found 4 refillable gas lighters, 3 missing knives, 2 teaspoons, a long-handled plastic wine-stirrer spoon, a bar of olive oil soap, and 3 microfibre cleaning pads. Have decided not to do any more rummaging, am going to try making some sausage & fennel Danish pastries (from the Nigel & Adam farm prog) & we`ll have them with ham & salady bits and half-baked rolls (hot) later, if they turn out ok.
Have a nice afternoon all. x0 -
I think you're right not to go out in the car Emm, it's getting windier here and I was going to go out for a few bits but have decided we can manage without them.
I quite like pottering days, great for when you don't feel up to doing a lot. It's amazing what you can find in little hidden places.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Emm Im glad your home and feeling okay. Dont be doing too much though .
Im glad to see everyone has had a good Christmas. We had the outlaws and my cousin. My dad decided to stay home. He is not into Christmas.
My daughters birthday today and my brothers partner is in labour. Baby should be born today the 28th. Double celebration .
Had a message on my facebook Christmas day re two children who were without presents. Mum had tried to get a loan and failed. Spent most of Christmas and Boxing day arranging with another facebooker ,donations. Thankfully we managed to find quiet a few kind people. Some even went out shopping on boxing day for toys and clothing.
Children were told that Father Christmas was sick and had to delay his delivery to some children.
The children will wake up this morning to a mountain of toys. Makes me feel like crying just thinking about it.
This made my Christmas and hopefully theirs.
Take care everyone and hugs.x0 -
Morning Messies,
I am so behind, Work was busy as and I haven't really been saying much on here at all!
Emm - am sorry I was speed reading when I checked in last, glad the op went ok and you are home and comfortable big relief(with an impressive haul from on top of the washing machine!). And FW - good Doctor! great you got seen. JPS - bleeding ulcers eh, how did you get them?? hope it isn't painful
I actually don't want to go out and break the spell of Christmas, that bit where you don't need to go out food shopping or work, it's not long now cos the guinea pigs need fresh veg. But would really like to stay in today. Think one of my friends wants to go out. Doesn't feel like a Saturday. Also I have no cash or very little. A, supposed to be out on Monday but really don't want to go (group of old friends who all have kids, always makes me feel sad that I don't and it gets a bit difficult) . Sound like I am a right misery! but to be honest I feel so relaxed and was not well yesterday so would like a day of pottering and not have my head messed with by other people.
In messy news I persuaded Mum to move the furniture around in the living room, looks LOADS better and has spurred her to do other rooms, like Yorkshire lass the run up to Christmas was very stressed as we tried to do the Conservatory. It didn't work, was in hindsight a ridiculous plan but oh well done now.
Really I need to get on with stuff today. still it was nice to catch up with you all
Hope you are all still well,
XXXNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Hi Messies!
Snookey that`s lovely. I`m normally quite `anti`-facebook, too, so it`s nice to hear of it being used for stuff like this.
Buffy, I`m glad you & your mum agreed on the LR re-arrangement and that it worked so well. I know what you mean about days not feeling like what the day is - it doesn`t take much to throw me anyway, as I don`t have a `Monday-to-Friday`life. Every few weeks I find myself thinking it`s a different day but most of my colleagues do it too so it doesn`t worry me!
Enjoy the chance to relax at home, if that`s what you want to do - going out with others can be a bit of a chore sometimes, and you do have such a busy life!
Saying that, I`ve been out today - the winds have died down (for now, at least) so I drove to farm shop and Morrisons on the way back. Quite comfortable, as the seat belt doesn`t go anywhere near sore bits. Phew!
The sausage & fennel Danish pastries I did yesterday were beautiful, and the apple-juice ham was a hit too. I`m giving the ham a rest tonight, and doing chicken curry (AGAIN!) by request. This time it`s more of a curried chicken stew.
Followed by trifle.
Have a nice evening all.x0 -
Hi Messies!
Here we are in the `in-between` bit.... tugged by the opposing forces of wanting to get things done while we can, and the CBA, it IS allowed to slob-out/relax while we can too.
I`m wobbling between both poles.
The apple-juice ham needs no prep, with steamed cauli & frozen roasties... so after a quick swish round worktops etc I made a creamy onion sauce to heat up later.
Tomorrow is bins day, so I`ve had a trash-trawl to fill the bin.
It was really cold today, so put heating on mid-morning... so decided to wash one set of bedding to make the most of upstairs warmth drying stuff in doorways.
It feels like I`ve done stuff to fit circumstance rather than stuff that needs doing, but looking at this now I`m feeling it`s been a productive day after all.
DS is going up North to his GF`s for the end-of-year jollities, and for once hasn`t left his laundry till the last minute, so I`ve not had to do the usual nagging. Surprisingly peaceful here!
Hope you`re all having a nice relaxing weekend. x0 -
Same here Emm, things to be done but not much happening.
I managed to stay in bed till 10.45 this morning and don't remember waking up much but feel more tired than when I only get a couple of hours.
I did the trash-trawl yesterday and the bins/ recycling containers have been emptied today. I just need to take the wheelie bin back through the gate but can't do it till son's car is moved.
I've done some washing and am waiting for sons to move the fridge-freezer then I can clean behind it before the new freezer arrives tomorrow. I suppose I will have to go shopping then to fill it but first will empty the freezer part of the fridge-freezer and defrost it.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
