  • Morning Messies!

Thanks all of you for kind words and encouragement. I really do feel `lucky`, in that it`s all happening quickly. It sounds daft, but I`m looking forward to getting Wednesday over so I can plan a bit round the actual op date, and more to the point, let folks know what`s happening if they have to plan around it too - family and colleagues, it`s not just about me!

Re Christmas - Dibuzz, as others have said well, try to focus on the good things, and don`t worry about not being `in the mood`! These days with all the hype we`re expected to be in the mood for Christmas as soon as the Halloween Tat & fireworks are off the shop shelves! The bit I hate is that even `normal` shopping, parking, etc. becomes a nightmare the closer we get.
One of the good bits for me is that Aldi & Lidl do frozen venison steaks this time of year, and I`m pleased that I`ve got enough freezer space to stash 3 packs for future reference. We`re not normally steak fans so this is a rare treat.

DGD & I made one of the Messy-est `pies` ever last night. I`ve been in the habit for some years now, keeping a pen & notebook in my bag and if sitting in hospital or dentists waiting rooms copying recipes from the various pricey magazines that folks have donated.
Last night, it was one from the breast clinic - fish pie with rosti topping. Fish & sauce wasn`t messy.... but you would not believe how much mess grating a couple of large spuds can make. And how much potato juice gets splattered or leaks everywhere. Yes, I know colanders have holes...
When you think you`ve cleaned it all up, it dries with a brown tinge where you`re quite sure no potato juice went..and there`s glistening potato starch in places there shouldn`t be. And then there`s the grating of cheese to mix with the potato.
    Bits everywhere.
The dish was lovely. If we make it again I`ll use the mini food processor - it`s in the caravan of Doom, somewhere, because I rarely use it and there`s not much room in my little kitchen.

    Today, so far -
DGD was having a hair-stuff crisis. SO many bobbles & scrunchies around the house, she loses hers, uses mine, and suddenly there`s none to be found except the scrunchies with baggy elastic (I`m glad our knicker elastic doesn`t tire so easily!!) So we`ve had a good rummage in all the usual places, found a few, PLUS I`ve found the charger for my mobile (I`d tidied it away some time ago & forgot where I`d put it, finding that was top of my to-do list)
I`ve also done one WM load, including DGD`s school blazer with some dread... but it`s come out fine. Blazers have come a long way since I last had dealings with them!
It`s dry & sunny here today, so I`m going to do another load now (towels) and get them outside.
Have a good weekend all, and don`t stress! x

Not feeling at all Christmassy this year. Kids are asking when the tree is going up so I've told them they can sort it out.
Got about 4 loads of washing to do today.
Lots of cleaning and tidying to do-need to get motivated. All I have managed to do so far today is have a bath. :o

Emm, TG you had the mammogram when you did and it was caught early.
The very best of good wishes to you. BIG HUGS.

My former boss had hers caught early, as did my sister; though at opposite ends of the country but both for the same reason. Their mammograms were done at teaching hospitals which had the very latest equipment and were really good at spotting things.

I still have a small supply of scrunchies and elastics from my long hair days. The thick elastics make great waistband extenders for tight jeans and trousers that have stud or button closures.

School uniform. I had a navy blue Burberry, rather than a blazer, in the days when they weren't high fashion... (Just Googled them for the price now. Eek.)

I also hear you with the teaspoons. I found two under my bed yesterday, from late night low fat yoghurts. These are eaten so that my night-time painkiller has something to land on in my tummy.

DS got the Christmas decorations down out of the attic yesterday. I can't get in my home office now, so they will have to go up today. I don't use the office that much now that I have a laptop, but the printer and boiler are there.
I normally put the decs up a bit later, c. 17th, but it all takes so long with my arthritis now that I might as well have a good long break before it all comes down again.

Though my arthritis is much better these last few days, I have discovered turmeric and it appears to work for me. I'm not ditching the usual anti-inflammatories but they were getting less efficient and I was taking the tablets closer together.
Although if you do take turmeric (49p for 40g jar in A!di) it does stain like beggary. I managed to spill very little this morning, by tapping it out of the jar and on to a massive spoon. I have a memory of being a nosy little kid who tasted dry curry powder experimentally and choked on it, so the turmeric goes down with a squirt of runny honey. I used agave nectar this morning as I've used up the honey. It's an interesting flavour combo, but still much nicer than accidentally chewing on a Naproxen or Tramadol.

Coincidentally, Lorna Luft is just talking about her breast cancer experience with Graham Norton on Radio 2 .."Once you have the education and the knowledge, you have the will to fight". She went into denial for a month before she started treatment, she said. Lucky lady.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Emm. Hope all goes well, like everyone has said-at least it was caught early

Load 1 out of washing machine and load 2 is in.

House still looks like a tip but I'm just psyching myself up to make a start.

  • Hello again...
Tattycath, well done on the washing. I`ve done 2 loads today, and was just thinking about blitzing LR but had an urgent letter re gas meter safety check - they`re coming Wednesday afternoon - our meter is in corner of LR, so I`m thinking it`s going to need doing nearer the time. How`s THAT for an excuse for procrastination?!

FW - Enjoy your takeaway this evening, you surely deserve it! I`ve bought mince pies as nobody here but me that eats them, and I like the co-op ones (£1).

McCulloch, I`m intrigued about the turmeric - I`ve got horrible thumbs but hate taking stuff unless it gets really bad, and to be honest it`s only when I`ve brought it on myself by doing daft things like scrubbing all my pans a few months ago or gripping things awkwardly. I quite like turmeric too.

I`ve just lit the fire, and we`re having pork chops, hammy cabbage and jacket spuds tonight, so not much to do. Lazy evening with a glass or 2 of red plonk and catch-up on i-player! Sounds like a plan...

Last night my parents turned up for a flying visit and sleep over, visiting my new niece who lives only 10 minutes walk away :j
I was very pleased that the spare room only needed the that days clean laundry put away, airers put away, the room swept and towels put out. The living room was tidy with the exception of the paper chains we were making as they arrived. The landing just needed a sweep. Kitchen was ok, floor clean, space to put the supper tray and dw waiting to be loaded, but still lots needs doing. Dinning room usable, but lots of clutter & dust. Hall is disgusting, stuff everywhere most of which belongs else where :eek:The rest of the house is rather mixed ranging from horrendous to acceptable.

I was pleased the spare room was so easy to prepare as that is the intention, need to keep on top of where we have the house under control and continue chipping away at the rest.

  • Good Morning !

It`s a sunny one here, that`s what woke me, made me feel almost motivated - but everyone else is still asleep so I`ve just pottered in the kitchen and taken the dogs out, so far.

BB, it sounds like your hall is doing what our `spare room` does, but it`s great that your parents` arrival wasn`t cause for upheaval, so you and they can enjoy the visit. Our SR does not even contain a bed, but that isn`t its function. The only overnight visitors we ever have are my DS`s friends, & GF. The latter shares his bed and the pals are happy to doss on LR sofa if one of them doesn`t fancy the walk home - just like when they were teenagers.
If we have other unexpected visitors it`s usually just LR & downstairs loo/ back door area that they see, and our LR is really very `lived in`! I always feel happier if LR looks ok, and it is the room I pay most regular-ish attention to. The Gas Meter inspection means a deep clean as it`s in a hidden corner...

    Today`s `to-do` list -
Bins out later for tomorrow, so a trash-trawl when the others are up and about, including paperwork for recycling.
Get stuff out of freezer for evening meal -depends what I find. I`m cooking some beef tomorrow (Sunday dinner on Monday this week) and we`ll have eggy brunch today.
Re-pack bug-out bag for next week.
I`m sure there`ll be more as the day goes on...
