I'm in shock this morning, as usual I slept from about 11 till 3 then read for an hour. That's usually the point where I get up and start the day as there's no point lying there getting wound up because I cant sleep, but I suddenly realised I hadn't taken my tablets which I always do before bed.
After taking them I fell asleep again till 8am
That's the most sleep in one night I've had for years so I guess I've no excuses for not doing things today :o

First lot of washing is on the line now and 2nd is swishing around the poor dog is wondering why it's light and she's not been for walkies yet but has now settled down to sunbathe on the decking.

Son's shirts and pants need ironing, the bathroom needs cleaning and I've got some bulbs to plant but first I need to catch up on all the cups of tea I've missed with being asleep :rotfl:

  • Normally I wouldn't bother with the oven but DH's penpal from years ago is coming to stay and one of her express wishes is that we cook together. She is an amazing cook, I am not. But rubbish cook or not I think the oven should probably be less of a state. The bonus of cleaning the oven was that pie explosion was really easy to clean up, it was just pie filling, not pie filling plus black stuff!
  • Hi Messies!

    Alec E - Now that`s what I call `committing Pie!`
Sonastin - I read your post out to OH this morning, he had a good chuckle!
Dibuzz, congrats on finally having a good kip!
Re oven cleaning...mine is pretty grim again, but it`s been a lot worse. I know it may not be very MSE, but I quite often use roasting bags as they prevent a lot of the `splatter` - AND the `splatter` that would have been all over the oven stays in the bag to make nicer gravy or stock!

Well, yesterday was another hectic early shift but I finally got away (half hour late, again!) and put work behind me...then
Uniforms (plus DGD`s) washed, hung & dried.
Pork curry - all from scratch, home grown chilli/thyme/bay leaves, fresh garlic & ginger, started early & cooked slow for later so it had time to `fester` and sweet potatoes went mushy to thicken it.
Also made a salady yoghurt & mayo side dish to help cool it! DS`s old mate since their schooldays was here so invited to stay for supper too. Went down very well, plates scraped clean always a good indicator!
Also slow roasted a carvery leg of lamb (YS< defrosted) for today etc. I seem to have cooked a lot of lamb recently, but this leg was taking up a lot of freezer space and it`s not an easy shape to `tetris` with, but OH loves lamb so no complaints!
This may sound daft after a few very tiring days, but it was a sort of `second wind` thing brought on by knowing I have a few days off, quite normal here! And, while I was pottering in the kitchen OH kept my wine glass refilled, and read to me. This started as a joke a few years ago, I was banging around in the kitchen and he said `if you don`t stop being grumpy in here I shall come and read to you!` I was in a foul mood so I shouted `FINE!`. He brought what he thought was a boring old history, lists of items from Domesday Book...and read it aloud. I loved it, it was the minutiae he thought would bore me that were so fascinating.!! Last night`s reading was from `Wind in the Willows` which we`ve both loved since infancy.
Favourite chapter Dulce Domum, where Ratty & Mole return to Mole`s home & the fieldmice come carol-singing!
So it was quite a productive and pleasant evening.

    Today -
Had a lie-in. DGD`s been collected by her mum, and now I`m going to go shopping. I have a £6 off/£30 spend voucher for Sainsbugs and haven`t been there for a while so they must have missed me, haha! If I`ve got energy left after that I`m thinking a dog-walk and maybe evena potter in the garden!
Have a nice Sunday all! .
  • Hello again! I think I`m on a roll, or at least doing reasonably.
Quick strike in Sainsbugs, stuck to £30 limit so only spent £24.
Put shopping away. Meals sort of planned for next week.
Picked a few pounds of apples (& trod on loads of old fallers)
Took Littly dog for walk with OH, old clay quarry nearby that`s now wildlife `managed`. Saw loads of butterflies, counted SIX Commas one one small bramble patch! Brilliant!
WM load of towels nearly done, might yet dry a bit outside.

Just stopped for a coffee or 3. Buffy - i think I know what you mean, think I have a `not cold` too, sort of hovering but not settled into a proper effort! Had a scratchy throat this morning and a few sneezes - I`m just hoping that if I keep busy and ignore it it`ll go away!
Next - prep veggies for tonight. I`ll roast parsnips & spuds, steam carrots & cabbage. Good excuse if oven is on to make an apple pie!

I've got quite a bit done today, bulbs planted, ironing done and bathroom cleaned.
The day has flown by with getting up so late, I'm going to make a curry soon then do some knitting in front of the tv.

dibuzz, have you heard of two sleeps? Apparently it used to be quite common to wake up in the middle of the night for a bit, and then go back to bed.

Anyway! Have been lurking for a while so thought I'd say hi. My house is a mess :o There's 2 adults, 4 kids and 2 chickens, and we home educate, so are here a lot. Not sure there's much hope for us, but need to at least try!

Love the Flylady gals, but all those lists just set me up for failure :( So thought I'd pop in here :)

Emm thats sounds lovely being read to. My favourite books as a child were milly molly mandy and Mrs Pepperpot.

Have cleaned the kitchen which always takes ages as the dogs cage is in there . He makes a right old mess with bits of things he steals from the rubbish bag and hair. Not that I allow him in the rubbish bag he steals when Im not looking.
All the cupboards also wiped down and the machines. Floors cleaned.
Iv got to iron dd uniform as the pinafore has pleats . Ill pack her holiday stuff later or Monday as she is going Tuesday.

Were not having a roast today as everyone just wants snacks. Son is cooking sausages and chicken fingers for dd and himself. Will do a stew Monday.

Robberbutton welcome its always nice to have new people on board.

Hi Robberbutton, thanks for the link.
I get my son up at 5 so it would be difficult to do right now but quite often I feel like I could sleep again after about 3 hours then once the kids have all left I'm wide awake. Worth thinking about though.

Snookey we have days like that when everyone would rather graze than have a proper meal.

Seems like there's curry in the air tonight - we usually have a Sunday roast but I didn't have anything in and didn't fancy going shopping so we ended up having curry too! Unfortunately kitchen now looks like a bombs gone off but I'll address that before I go to bed.

Bathroom is all clean now - finally made the time to do it this morning. And OH henried the house again this evening so I think we're nearly tidy again. There's a laundry basket full of clean washing still needs putting away and bills all over dining table so you don't have to banish me to flyladies just yet!

I notice we've had a few new messies join us over the last few days - welcome one and all - plenty of room here! This is the place to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small... and rejoice in your messiness when you simply C.B.A. Oh, and to moan about the others in your households when they are at the root of the messiness. Most of us have realised that its not all our fault!
