My home is a mess

My house is still a huge mess... Though DS did sort out his football hoard at the weekend and threw 11 of them away because they were no good. Only leaves 3 so he's desperate to buy some more. He has three footballs, two feet, why do we need more?
I have a friend with an elderly mum (she's 90!), so on the days I'm not working I go and spend an hour or two with her. Not productive in terms of dehoarding and cleaning but, at the end of the day, I have many years (I hope!) to sort out my mess but company is important for her now. She's an amazing lady, still lives on her own but needs help with things even if she won't ask for it, you just have to go and do it, and she just loves having someone to talk to.
Clearing the messy home may take a long time but we'll get there in the end0 -
I spent a lot of time with neighbours across the road especially the last couple of years.
I would spend most of the day there but seemed to get far more done in the short time I was home before the kids came in.
They are in a home now and I miss them so much.
I've done virtually nothing today.
I was up at 2 and couldn't get back to sleep, went back to bed at 8 cos my head was pounding, got up again at 12 and feel even more tired than before.
I've just put some washing in, normally I've done 2 or 3 loads by now.
There has been a musty smell in here for a couple of days, I've been threatening the dog with a bath but have just found my son's socks he took off on Monday night under the sofa. They are still wet so no wonder it was getting smelly.
Going to have a cup of coffee to try and wake me up then hopefully do something constructive.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Hi Messies!
Foolofbeans - Hi, we`re always delighted to meet another Messy! It always helps to have folks to share a moan - or a bit of progress with.
Alec E - congratulations on the new pink niece!
Dibuzz and Mummybobble - you are both SO right about how fascinating some old folks can be, and how the most welcome gift you can give is the time to listen. That`s one reason I hate being short-staffed as we feel we are rushing from one task to the next, and less real quality time with patients who need it. There`s a saying that `old age doesn`t come by itself` - it often comes with loneliness.
Snookey, yesterday was a Pig of a shift (again!) and no chance of delegating anything last night or today as the menfolk have gone down with Man-flu!!(DGD`s class A germs haven`t hit me yet, I`ve been too busy, but will probably get it by Sunday when I start 4 days off!)
Today -
Had a lie-in till 9.30, went to farmshop then Mr M`s via town where I had a couple of errands, got home, brought in/put away shopping, tidied LR & kitchen, took dogs out again, 2 loads in WM all hanging around indoors from all the doorways & curtain rails upstairs.
Was thinking of tidying bedroom to keep on top of things but it`s dark up there!!!
Another load is in WM now, and I`ve got Yet Another lamby leftover effort in the oven....all very nutritious but boring, it will just get scoffed without comment anyway as the menfolk can`t taste anything!!
I`ve had my first sit down and some coffee when I started typing here!
I have another early tomorrow, plus an errand to do on the way home. There are still loads of apples waiting to be picked, if only they can hang on till weekend. No good picking them when it`s drizzling like today, but I CBA now even if it was dry!
I have got a fair bit done today - funny, doesn`t feel like I have till I read this!
Have a nice evening all. x0 -
Good point Emm, maybe we should write down everything we as its probably far more than we think.
I've done a bit of decluttering upstairs, doesn't look much different but there's a bin bag full of rubbish and a charity bag to go out tomorrow.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
foolofbeans welcome its nice to have more messy people on board. Oh and thanks for saying my tip is usefull although I probs borrowed it from some other source and stored it in my brain, lol.
Alec you must be thrilled with the new arrival. We have three to be born next year in our family two around new year . One of them will be my brothers first.Jelly beans.
Emm its funny how our colds are just that and men take theirs up a notch. Told you men always have to go one better.
MummyBobble at least he threw most away less clutter for now. I should do this with hoovers I dont know why I hoard them. Maybe its so people think Im house proud, lol.
Well done Dibuzz on your continued declutter and you will see a change eventually.0 -
Hello All,
Hope you don't mind me joining the thread. Read all your comments and made me feel better. Had a rough year and been feeling really down lately. Finding the MSE forum has picked me up no end this week.
Do you think people with tidy, perfect, minimal homes are happy???

Morning Messies!
Hi & Welcome, Thrify Fashionista! Glad to have you join us. Your question - which I mis-read as `TINY, perfect, minimalist homes` - made me think of a very dear friend, who is very minimalist now only because their house IS tiny!! She`s happy, but certainly wouldn`t call her place perfect or tidy, with a large dog and 3 ferrets as well as her OH!!
Well done on the de-cluttering Dibuzz, every item gone = a weeny bit more space. Snooks, I once used to have 3 hoovers just because none of them were really `right`. Then I saw the light and bought a Henry, and I knew there was no point keeping the others because I`d never want to use them again!
If my Henry `died` and couldn`t be fixed, I`d buy another one, no matter how hard up I was.
Off to work again in a few minutes, haven`t even got my shoes on yet! Have a decent day everyone. x0 -

Hi all,
You make me feel so normal, thank you!
Stuff to do today in the home:
Fold washed laundry inc. towels on the line as I write
Wash and hang next lot
Iron at least 3 shirts for DH to avoid the dreaded Ironing Mountain
Cook lunch and dinner
Cleaning luckily is being taken care of by a young lady who comes to help me periodically. But she is very young and inexperienced and does not iron, sadly! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I was up at 2.30am after 3 hours sleep again
Took muttkins out for a walk at 6 and it was still dark, can tell the days are getting shorter now.
About this time last year I bought paint and wallpaper for this room and started to strip it but like every room in this house once you start something it turns into a bigger job, half the plaster seems to have come off with the paper.
Looking at it is really getting me down so I'm going to get the steamer out and finish off one wall. At least it will be a start.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
