My home is a mess

Hi Emm! The Indian Summer has hit us today but i think it may just be a one-day event as the forecast is dreadful for tomorrow!!
Well, i was going to do all sorts this morning but we had a calf with a broken leg so i had to take it to the vets to get a splint put on, not sure it's going to heal though, we have to wait 6 weeks till we find out! Tennis training this aft for the girls so i've got back and sorted supper - mini toad-in-holes with home made wedges and onion gravy, strawbs and cream for pud. Got two loads of washing out this morn so i MUST go and get that in before the rain comes.
My grandma tripped over whilst fetching in her wheelie bin on thursday, black eyes, broken nose and a broken bone in her neck!! She's nearly 91 and is now in hospital at the other side of the country so me and my dad did the 180 mile round trip to visit her yesterday, i think we may be visiting again in the week so i'm going to have to be organised this coming week!!

xxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
I'm trying to sort my bedroom out but it's not easy as i have most of my son's clothes in there. He has so much junk I cant get near his wardrobes and if I just put his clean clothes on his bed they end up on the floor and eventually back in the wash unworn but dirty
We have the gas service on Tuesday, my daughter was warned 4 weeks ago as the fire is in her downstairs bedroom and she still hasn't moved a thing. You wouldn't believe the mess in there and I'm too ashamed to post a pic. She won't let me go in to do anything so it looks like I'll have to cancel it again (should have been done in June but same problem)
That's part of the problem really, everywhere is such a mess and I don't now where to start. I an spend all day cleaning and tidying and it just doesnt look any different.
Sorry to hear about your Grandma J, I hope she feels better soon. These things knock their confidence.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
FW - Hope the calf makes it, hang in there little bovine! x And your poor Gran, Bless her, I hope she`ll make a good recovery and your long-distance hospital visits will not have to go on for too long.
Dibuzz - DO NOT CANCEL! Tell your DD asap that you aren`t cancelling, and that some stranger is going to wade through her mess and you will explain it`s her mess not yours! Move stuff the day the man comes to do the check and explain that your DD wasn`t very co-operative. Then get your head around it that if anyone should feel shamed it`s DD and NOT you. Because that`s the fact of the matter. If you`re going to do any cleaning & de-messying do it anywhere BUT DD`s room. Take a shovel in there on the day if you have to, then let her put things back as she wants them!
As for your DS, I suggest just putting his stuff in those folding storage crates, the cheap ones that stack. I`ve done this with my DS`s stuff for exactly the same reason. Except his socks, they`re just in a carrier bag in spare room of Doom, I`ve given up trying to pair them, and he finds what he needs and I don`t have `clean` dirty stuff to wash.
If you don`t have a spare room just stack boxes/crates in a corner.I blame the parents, we obviously didn`t get cross enough when it MIGHT have made a difference!!
Seriously Dibuzz, you can`t cancel/postpone `life goes on` until your kids get their fingers out! I feel very cross on your behalf. The gas check man will probably have seen a lot worse, and be cross on your behalf too!0 -
I'm afraid I can't match the speed of progress others on this thread are achieving and it's only me here so definitely all my mess.
I have managed to keep my bedroom floor clear after chucking out a whole lot of rubbish last weekend. I've clocked when stuff is on the floor when it shouldn't be and it gets picked up, put away or chucked as appropriate. Sounds obvious but I guess that's simply how the clutter built up in the first place and applies to the rest of my flat.
Tonight I went round picking up the various items of stuff that have lying around my flat for I dread to think how long. Nothing huge but just little bits of random clutter that combine to make the place look untidy. This was in preparation for doing a sweep of the floor - everywhere being laminate. I'd noticed a few "dust bunnies" the other day but oh my the fluff and other stuff I gathered up was really shocking. I'm partially sighted and so don't notice details of anything which isn't up close (gives you an idea how big those "bunnies" were) so I guess I'm going to have to resolve to sweep regardless of whether I can see anything needing swept.
I was going to hoover and mop floors too but sweeping took so long that will keep for tomorrow. Now at 10pm I'm just sitting down to my tea!
I guess this is another small step towards properly maintaining my living space and I can feel I've made some progress.0 -

Tell her a little white lie, That you have been told by the gas people if they dont service the gas this time then they will cut you off for safety reasons. That means no hot water for baths, no heating in the winter. When it starts affecting them they will do something about it.0 -

Please do not cancel, my DH is a gas engineer and some of the stories he tells me would make your toes curl.
The only reason he would not go into a property is if it was unsafe to do, not if it was messy.
If the fire was emitting CO, you would feel far worse than the engineer seeing the mess.
Also get it all serviced/checked now before winter, you don't want it breaking down.
The only shame in mess is our own.0 -

LOVE IT! Bet it would work as well
And FW - hope your Nan is ok, sounds like a nasty fall.
I am off to the tip with some garden rubbish and then I have to go out and buy some stones to finish off the pond edging AND then I must do my room! I have a pile of "stuff about 4 ft high that needs to go and I have to set up the guinea pig cages and "stuff" plus make the new furniture.
Next weekend yet again is project conservatory (and goldfish tank)
You lot might get this.......if I do get the house sorted out and finish my dolls house I am going to buy myself the Christmas set of Yankee candles! they cost 20.00 which is a lot for three candles!
Have a good day Messies what ever you are doingXXNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Grousescot, I know those dust-bunnies! Only here we call them dust-buffaloes...and it`s going to get worse here with a second dog and the woolly rugs in LR now for winter instead of the cotton ones.
Buffy, sounds like you`re getting on well there - I`m envious of your outdoorsing achievements. The one decent day we`ve had (yesterday) I was blitzing LR. Glad I did, we had 2 lots of visitors after I`d finished.
Today it`s cold, spitting bits of rain and very windy, so I`m making a big chicken stew and will light the fire tonight. Have to get DGD showered/shampood etc, then after her mama collects her OH & I are going to have an hour in the pub. Back to work on a late shift tomorrow - where DID the week go???0 -
Still no effort from daughter, she's told her brother she will do it tomorrow night but there's more than a few hours work there.
She just doesn't care.
They both moan to their dad that I want them to sort their mess out, his solution is to invite them out or to his so they arent here to do it.
They were out with him yesterday afternoon and evening, son was saying this morning that he needed something to do today, I had just about persuaded him to help sort some of his clothes then his dad invited him round so I won't see him till bedtime now and nothing will get done.
We don't have a spare room to store anything in, my daughter sleeps downstairs. She did promise that we could still use the room in the daytime, it's the only place there is really room for me to iron comfortably but that didn't last long and now she goes mad if I even try to set foot in there.
The gas fire which is in her room never gets used mainly because we can't get near it so I'm not too worried from the safety point of view. The sad thing is, she is always cold so being able to use it would benefit her.
I know it's all my fault for not standing up to them, Ive always found that difficult and they expect me to do everything for them but do nothing back although my son is a lot more willing when his sister isn't around.
They have been promising to sort out the shed for weeks, daughter's bike was in the hall for 3 months until I finally gave her a last warning and when it hadn't been moved I put it in the back garden. She brought it back in and it is now in her room probably getting damaged as she stands on everything to get around the room.
Eldest son and I ended up sorting the shed out, he has nothing in there and I only have the garden tools, the rest is bikes and fitness stuff, you know the sort of thing, used for a few weeks then dumped in the shed.
Sorry to waffle on for so long but I'm really struggling at the moment and have nobody to talk to, just sit here crying most of the time.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
dibuzz- give them an ultimatum - if they don't do it by x date, you will put everything on the floor in a black back and put out for the bin men.
and follow through on this! if they loose mist of their clothes then they will have to replace them! also, take some pics and show their friends and ask if their room is as bad!!
and also show their dad the mess!! if he says that it's not bad, why doesn't he have them for a while and have to sort it!!Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500
