My home is a mess

Hi all
Well it has been such a nice week. Have had family staying and done loads, have really enjoyed having DS2 at home too. More than made up for my slightly disappointing birthday! Oh and thank you all for the nice birthday wishes - you lot made me feel special even if no-one else did!
So the housework has been neglected BUT I did have a bit of a clean this morning when the visitors had gone. I really want to reorganise my kitchen. My worktops seem to be getting more and more cluttered which makes it hard to clean. I want to go back to just having the kettle and toaster out and not much else but that means making cupboard space to put other things away. A project for next week I think!
Keep plodding on everyone, spring will soon be here and although the sunshine shows up the dust it does make you feel better!0 -
My DD visited today, noticed the spaces on bookshelves and has offered to help me to relocate 1 of the four lounge bookshelves to my bedroom. The ones in there were assembled either by an ex BF who wasn't much of a carpenter , or me - it would have been ok, but it was a 2 person job and as DS went through a long period of absolutely, totally, refusing to help me in the house, I had to do it on my own. I can remember balancing part of it on my head as I put it together.
DS is much better now.
His attitude back then was that as he worked full time and paid me some housekeeping, surely that meant I could pay for people to do jobs for me. That attitude has changed.
All the same it was DD who repositioned the curtain pole today by using my cordless drill. This was hanging loose and made the room look untidy. She did a super job.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Morning Messies!
Sonastin, the procrastination of having all those bathrooms makes them sound a lot more manageable!
YL, I`m glad you`ve had a nice week after your birthday glooms. Know what you mean about cluttered worktops - my kitchen is really small and I`m the one who spends most time in there - the `stuff` does get rearranged sometimes, but quickly builds up again, and I admit to being the worst culprit.
Mcculloch - well done your DD! A bit of help does cheer you up, doesn`t it.
Messy Status report -
I`m still on `light duties` here, but after another episode of doc-bothering yesterday and one lot of test results in seem to be closer to a diagnosis.. now waiting for a scan appointment - my doc faxed it as `urgent` yesterday pm, but, of course, it`s Le Weekend now... On the bright side, he hasn`t scooped me into hospital though, and I haven`t got any worse!! (Have my `bug-out` bag packed just in case)
OH & DS are being really good, helping (under step-by-step instruction!) so the place is just ticking over & not getting any messier. That`s a minor miracle in itself, so can`t grumble!
Have a nice weekend all. x0 -
I take it everyone else is busy de-messying?!
Emm, thanks for such a positive post at what must be a worrying time for you. Good on you! Thinking of you though and hope the bag stays put.
My sis commented on how upbeat I was on the phone yesterday. I had to be as I was in a lot of pain with arthritis, and I was NOT going to let that take over my mindset.
So I waxed lyrical about my bargains from £land and other Good Things.
My DD is a super help Emm, she was a cleaner when she was a student; she is rather good at cleaning and tidying - and DIY it would seem. Her OH is the son of a builder and is very useful himself, she has watched and learned.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Mcculloch, thanks for your reply - you SO hit the nail on the head "NOT going to let that take over my mindset". OH is a natural worrier, so that`s another reason to keep myself positive, but mainly it`s my own instinctive reaction to worry - it only makes you feel worse, so distract the `worry mechanism` with something (ANYTHING!) positive.
Our fellow Messies must be exhausted by now if they`ve been de-messying all this time! It does go quiet here sometimes, then suddenly you get a big flurry and can hardly keep up.0 -
Evening Messies.
Emms, I'm so pleased that you're coping, albeit with DS and OH's help, and a diagnosis is almost there. I'm a natural worrier, too, but I do try very hard these days not to let worry take over, because I've been there, done that!
YL, I'm glad you had a good week, after the birthday-that- didn't happen'.
Mc29, I admire you for keeping positive - it must be hard at times. And how wonderful to have such a practical DD! Our DD2 is pretty good at that sort of stuff, or was. Since her bf is a builder and decorator, she tends to leave most of that to him nowadays.
Well, not a lot of de-messying done here, but WM loads have gone in, dried, been put away. I'm continuing to wash 'rags' and unwanted clothes for CS, so the long-resident 'stuff' at the bottom of the basket is lessening. So far, one card made, and am now planning Mum's Mother's Day card. I've kept the kitchen floor swept (can't believe the mess that collects on it!). Not much more done, partly because I've gone back to the absorbing hobby of family history - with all its bits of paper! -and partly because I've been a bit off-colour. Finally contacted the GP, because there's a history of diabetes in my dad's family, and am going for a blood test on Thursday. Previous GP said I should have a test annually, but it's now 18 months since the last one. As it is, of course, today, I feel a lot better! <rolls eyes> Still, just as well to keep a check.0 -
Hi messies! I can't believe it's Saturday night already.
Bearcub, hope your blood tests show nothing too serious going on - I am also on an annual check for diabetes but so far have been ok.
Emm I am thinking of you too, fingers crossed for something non-serious and easy to sort out.
I have read back a bit and well done to all those managing a bit of demessying - I've done very little but did manage to change the bedding, do a few loads of washing and hoover the car out (finally!) I also put down some limestone chips, as the front "garden" where I park my car is a quagmire after all the rain.
Predictably, I tweaked my back and it went into spasm again, so had to ring the Dr and go and pick up a prescription - it's not too bad now.
Tomorrow I'll do the basic chores - get work bag ready, empty bins, wash floors, hoover the worst bits and (probably) ignore the dust again
I 'll try to get some lunches for work planned as well, as I'm tending to eat too much when I just make decisions on the go... and more weight is creeping on.
I'm not feeling as bad as I was before we broke up for half term, but I am definitely a bit depressed and looking forward to seeing the Dr. on Tuesday.
It's been so cold hasn't it? We had drizzle today but it was pure white bits of ice. Keep warm and well messies... take care.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Hi all
Hugs to Emms and others who are feeling poorly or just a bit under the weather. OK, its Sunday afternoon and I have just got in from taking the kids to footie and now I do not want to be bothered. The beds arent made yet, the kitchen floor is filthy, the washing from yesterday is still in the dryer, the dirty washing is piling up in the bathroom, the dog needs walking and you can write your name in the dust on the TV unit.
I spent yesterday afternoon batch cooking and baking. It just never ends does it?
Off to try and find a volunteer to do some hoovering. Oh and need to check if DS has rinsed the bath out - he was caked in mud before he got in there - dread to think what it looks like!
Sorry for being a moan, just having a moment when I wish I could afford a cleaner.0 -
Hugs YL...
I had to let my cleaner go, I paid for her out of my disability allowance, but then my income dropped like a stone. I've managed quite well without her.
She spent ages mopping and rinsing my floors with buckets of cleaner; I now use a spray product and a damp mop. Did the grubby kitchen floor in 3 minutes. It's good enough and that's fine.
Demessyed a cupboard - well, half a cupboard and that has given me more storage space for food, always a Good Thing.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Finally managed to deep clean the bunny pen this morning. We moved the frame outside so we could get to everything else. Cleaned the walls, skirting, radiator and everything we could see before putting it all back together. Washed all their rugs and stuff, it's still dry outside so hopefully they'll dry today.
Other than that did a bit of decluttering, general cleaning and I've sorted out a stack of magazines and we found a home for DH's lego.
Hope everyone's feeling ok today.0
