Afternoon Messies.
YL, I do feel for you. Sometimes life can seem so full of drudgery, can't it? Just be careful you don't 'fall into a pit', IYKWIM. <hugs>
Mc29, sounds like you made a good decision about the cleaner. some people can make such a big thing of a relatively small task, can't they? You reminded me that I've been saying for months that one of our kitchen cupbards needs sorting. It's the one we keep potatoes in, so it tends to get rather messy.
Cold with the odd bit of snow. I wanted to go out in the garden and do a couple of small taks, but I really couldn't raise the enthusiasm to go outside again, once I came in from church. Well, day of rest and all that!0 -
Hi Messies.
Bearcub, re kitchen floors - if anything even remotely edible falls on the floor my Daftie-dog will attempt to eat it. I`ve known little `clean` patches appear after DGD has cut a slice of crusty bread. BUT, if just one small dog-biscuit (Wafcol hypo- allergenic all-in-one, because I`m dafter than the dog is!) falls out of the bowl and gets trodden on, Daftie will ignore those crumbs and they spread and expand so prodigiously I think there must be a Law of Physics to explain it.
JPS - I hope `back-to-school` and the Dr`s visit go well. It does sound like the half-term break has helped, despite the backache!
YL, you`ve had a busy weekend there - hope you found a volunteer, especially after all that baking.
Mcculloch, half a cupboard is better than none! Right now I`d settle for half a worktop.
Alec E - re Lego - my DS used to be a menace with that stuff, no matter how well it got cleared away there`d always be One Stray Piece lurking, and I`d always find it with my bare feet. Now my DD has the same problem with her kids` Lego!
Messy Status Report.
DS`s GF is coming tomorrow, so he will clean his room... hasn`t made a start yet, but this is normal. He`s tried to be helpful lately, so I`m hoping his room of Doom won`t spill out over the rest of the house as it sometimes does on these occasions. I`m ready to scream if it does though.
I`ve done very little today, but have made a BIG chicken stew, with 2 roasted chickens. It`s taken me all day, with lots of breaks, and the leftovers will be curried tomorrow.
Should hear about scan appt tomorrow, so trying to plan ahead in case I`m even more CBA than today!
DGD is all showered/shampooed & de-dagged, just had to nag a bit for the last bit. She`s also fed WM and hung some stuff indoors, Bless`er.
Looking forward to quiet evening by the fire with OH anytime now, and a bowl of chicken stew and a nice murder mystery on telly! (loads on U-tube)
Have a nice evening all. x0 -
Back again, thanks Bearcub you always make me feel better and you are right, I think its the end of a lovely half term week and having to get back to normal has made me feel a bit bleugh.
Emms, so when DS2 gets a girlfriend he will tidy his room before she visits? I like the sound of that. DS1 is much tidier, even if his version of tidy isnt quite the same as mine!
Well in the end I have managed to do 3 loads of washing, one dried outside surprisingly. Hoovered the kitchen and utility, done some ironing, made our bed and put some clothes away. Hubby is going to hoover and dust the living room when he has finished watching something on telly.
Need to get ready for morning then veg out in front of the fire and telly I think!0 -
Haven't done much de-messying this weekend. I promised OH that I'd go through one box a week of the boxes of my stuff up in the attic - when I moved it was all a bit of a rush so there was no time for decluttering before it happened - so I unpacked, rehomed or chucked out 2 boxes worth of stuff yesterday. Then I met my mum, aunt & brother at Grandma's house - she's in a home now so we're selling her house and we were going through her stuff to see if there's anything useful - and brought home another 3 boxes worth of goodies! Most of it is baking stuff and kitchen storage pots - I was very disciplined in not acquiring trinkets (clutter!) for the sake of it.
OH has hoovered and dusted new living room today before we went for a walk down the canal. I'm stuffed full of a cold so not really feeling up to much. I'm sitting here reading all about those of you with proper medical worries, be it serious ailments, undiagnosed mysteries or family members' troubles, and you're all coping admirably and cheerfully. Here's little me with nothing more than a snotty nose and a stuffed up head and I think that the world should stop turning so that I can be looked after! Maybe I've not got a cold - perhaps its man-flu after all!0 -
My gosh its been over 30 pages since I last posted!! Will have to go back and have a bit of a read!
This week have been doing more housework than normal because DM is ill with food poisoning and she's taking it easy and getting lots of rest + fluids.
Over the last few days I've hoovered, including the stairs as they get grubby fairly quickly; been doing the dishes regularly as normal; cleaned out bunnies (they get fresh bedding every 2 days; done three or four loads of laundry and hung it out to dry. Took dry washing down from outside as we put the line up earlier in the week because we actually had some sun, but now its colder we just put up the mini airer and stick it in the conservatory instead.
Decluttered the garage a bit a few weeks back - more room on the shelves and have 2 boxes or so that need to be car booted when the weather improves. Trying to sell some of the larger items on eBay but not getting a lot of interest; although we have sold an old portable convector heater, a breakfast bar set, and a chest of drawers in the last few weeks for a tidy sum.
Got a new garage door this week and the engineer fitted us a new interior light on the wall for no extra charge so that was nice!
Want to downsize a bit more though so will be putting up our dining table and chairs as it seats four people and theres only two of us now.0 -
Hi Messies.
YL - let us hope that when your DS2 gets a girlfriend and tidies his room...that he does not leave it to the Very Last Minute like my DS does! Believe it or not he has only just started, so far has stripped the bed (& fed WM) and is now filling a bin bag...but no dirty/mouldy washing up has yet emerged, nor any dirty clothes. These will explode out of his room of Doom later. When he`s done picking up bin rubbish, he`ll likely fill a box or several with `rubbish to keep`(broken computers and such in various stages of being cannibalised) which will get put in spare room of Doom. (Cue scream/rant by me) Then he`ll get Henry in there, and suck up all sorts of things that are bad for Henry. (Cue another rant from me till Henry has a brand new bag!) Then he`ll spray & wipe the more obvious patches of laminate floor where he`s spilled stuff since GF`s last visit. Then he`ll go off and shower/shave/shampoo, but on these occasions he doesn`t trash the bathroom as GF will be using it during her stay(he`s even been known to wipe sink/bath after use!) While I`ve been typing this he`s STILL at the bin-bag stage...GF is due to arrive around teatime, btw!0 -
Sonastin, well done on finding useful stuff and resisting the urge to bring home clutter from your Grandma`s. It`s lovely to keep and use stuff she has used, and quite enough - without getting carried away by cluttery stuff. One decade`s `treasure` is the next decade`s junk, that`s why car-boot`s and CS`s thrive!
I hope your cold goes soon. One of the added miseries of a cold is the whole "it`s only a cold" carp - it sort of adds insult to injury!! I reckon the term `man-flu` came about because blokes have more sense than us and DEMAND the right to feel carp/receive sympathy when they have a cold!
ps - DS has still not got beyond bin-bag stage...0 -
Oooh standing on Lego can't be fun, luckily DH is the tidy one in the household so he always puts everything away!
We we working on the budget for the rest of the year so we wrote shopping lists for clothes we need. I discovered I only own 5 pairs of shoes and 2 of them have seen better days! But I did sling a pair of slippers, a pair of boots, two shirts and something else into the charity bag. The people came to collect the bags nice and early this morning so they're gone and I'm glad about that.
Hope you're all having a good day.0 -
Theatregirl - hope your mum is feeling better, and well done you on recent de-clutterings and keeping on top of things while looking after her. It`s Back-sliding that is so discouraging for us Messies!
I`ve been quite surprised recently that with my own `light duties` and a fair bit of delegating to OH & DS the place has stayed quite reasonable.
Messy Status Report-
I have washed the coffee & sugar canisters, as they were quite crusty, and DS used the sinkful of hot water to wash up his grotty pots from his room.
DS has showered etc, un-trashed bathroom after himself, and is now at the Henrying his room stage.
I have sat on my bed and Henry`d as far as I could whilst sitting there, before Henry got brought downstairs for DS`s room. So far only one box of his `stuff` has gone up to the spare room, and DS insists that when GF has gone he`ll be `working on` the contents again so will bring it back down.
So far he`s only brought one WM load of his clothes out & they are washing now.
I`ve had my scan appt (Thursday am) so am in another little time-warp thinking "sufficient unto the day..." Time is like de-cluttering sometimes - baby steps!
So far, not a bad start to the week0 -
Evening messies!! Well, just had a lovely long weekend. Managed a good clear out which resulted in a car load going to the tip so a good result and a step in the right direction. Managing to keep rooms looking tidy 'enough' so quite happy.
Lovely dry, sunny weather here, though very cold. Live the sunshine but my goodness it shows up the dust! Have a wonderful evening whatever you're up to xx0
