  • Hey Messies,

Haven't been checking in for a few weeks, just so tired at the moment! I think I will have more get up and go now the mornings are brighter.

It goes without saying that I'm still messy lol. This mornin I had planned to go to the gym, but I couldn't find my earphones (essential for me when working out) ....so instead I nipped to town to post off some E*ay sales.

I've been back about an hour and had a cuppa. Next thing is to have a random tidy up. Charity bag has come through the post this morning, so I will aim to fill it up as much as I can!

YL - I would be unhappy too if I didn't have a little fuss from the OH on my birthday - I wonder if he'll take the hint ad treat you tonight?
  • YL, I`m glad you`ve cleared the air now. My best friend`s OH had genuinely thought as yours did - some blokes, eh?!
Bearcub - just as well they don`t include the mess (or the driver!) on MOT inspections. Anyway, She Passed! Phew. That`s one item off my `fretty` list.

    Messy Status Report
Upstairs - put a few clothes away. Changed pillowcases (CBA with sheets today). Finished packing my `bug-out bag`that I started on last week (in case of sudden hospitalisation or zombie apocalypse). I`m working on the `Sodz Law` principle that if it`s all done & ready it won`t be needed!
WM - Daftie-dogs upstairs bedding, clean spare down for her tonight.
LR - tidied/sorted & slung some paperwork while my `M` file was out or car docs. (M for miscellaneous). Dusted mantelpiece. Sofa still clear except for the cat and my Shaun Sheep hotwaterbottle. They look so happy together....
Kitchen - Wiped worktops. Looked at floor - then looked away.
Can`t get any enthusiasm going about food though. Plan for this evening has got as far as mashed potato with something or other...am considering tinned chicken/white sauce as OH likes that (usually as a snack if I`m working though) and it`s bland. I`ve done him some wierd stuff lately, mostly one-pot wonders, but it`ll be nice to both eat the same for once as I`ve only fancied eggy stuff & puddings recently.
Bexterragga - sunny mornings do help, don`t they? Get up and Go is all very well though, till it`s got up and gone!
  • Sonastin-thought of you the other day when I was tackling my bathroom. Bet it feels great to have it done.

Busy, busy day at work today. All I wanted to do was collapse on the sofa tonight but forced myself off my considerable backside and cleaned our bedroom and hall floor. So glad now it's done. Can't believe how dirty a bedroom floor can get in a week when nobody wears shoes in there!! Where does all the dirt come from? Answers on a postcard please :)

The long term project here is to get shot of enough books to condense two collapsing bedroom bookshelves onto one sturdy shelf which is currently partially in front of the lounge window.

Loads of books have already gone, but I am choosing carefully, as I don't want to regret any departures. So many are to do with work, (I'm a maths/English tutor) and I keep thinking that many may be useful for DGC. There are a few that I've had since childhood; having followed me all over Germany and the UK, they can keep following!
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

YL - glad you've cleared the air. I am one of those who geniunely has no interest in acknowledging my birthday but I know OH doesn't think like that. Trouble is he has serious problems with remembering numbers and so the date of my birthday really doesn't sink in. I have to remind him about it or he'd feel really guilty about missing it, even though I don't care. I'm pretty sure that fellas are damned if they do and damned if they don't so as long as he thought he was doing what you wanted, you know that he does care. Mothers day is coming up so nominate that as "make a fuss of YL" day in lieu of your birthday!

Emms - you've just reminded me that I've booked my car in for new tyres tomorrow and the back footwell is currently acting as an alternative rubbish bin! Oh well, he shouldn't need to look behind the seat when he's moving it around the forecourt. I emptied the boot on Sunday for taking stuff to the tip & when we were done, OH couldn't understand why I didn't want to clean my car. I just put the winter emergency stuff straight back in, figuring it can be cleaned once spring has sprung and I don't need a muddy shovel, wellies or hi-vis site jacket in there any more. If he complains about the state of my car again, i might just take him off the insurance! Having said that though, he doesn't drink and its nice to have a chauffeur once in a while. I think perhaps its worth listening to the complaints after all!

Sandyann - it is much nicer with the bathroom clean. I just wish it would stay like that forever without having to do anything else to it! I've just worked out the flaw in the design for the *finished* version of this house. We'll have 2 en suite bathrooms, a family bathroom and the shower room that we're currently using. You know, the tiny wee one that it takes me all my time to get around to cleaning! Oh, and the toilet out in the garage but I've already told OH I'm not cleaning that! I think maybe I need to lock the doors on the "spare" bathrooms except for when we have guests so that they don't get used and therefore need cleaning. Thank god we're in a soft water area so limescale isn't an issue!

    Hi all:j

Just popping in to report so you don't think I have miraculously cleaned the entire house & therefore don't qualify for being a messy:D

Truth is that DD has gone on her hols for 2 weeks, so DH & I are also having a holiday, going out & about with no-one else to consider......it's great:D. Although, it could take 2 weeks for me to get through all the accumulated washing in DD's room....just in time for her to bring all her holiday washing back:eek:

Have been at home some of the time, nice weather so did some outside jobs such as climbing up a ladder to see what was wrong with the downpipe.......and also the drain. Typically full of hair & other nasties, it's such a bad system that came with the house & has been cobbled together by the looks of it. Also did a bit of clearing the greenhouse, I much prefer outside clearing to inside:T. This year I must get to it all before it gets away from me, otherwise I will end up with a massive jungle as in previous years.

YL: sorry to hear your Bday was such a downer - hope you've had a great evening out with your bro to make up for it, also glad you cleared the air with OH. It did remind me though that some men - like my DH - do take what you say literally and are astounded when you get upset!!

Mine needs telling exactly what I expect, he really can't second guess at all. ie for my birthday I expect CAKE. I don't expect him or DD to make it (though that would be lovely) but I don't expect to have a birthday with no cake, which has happened:mad:in the past. The reason is that they both like savoury food, so they organised that fine, but then there was no birthday cake, a cardinal sin IMHO:rotfl:

Actually, a cake buffet would be really good:D:D:D

Well have rambled on for ages, will try & report back with any progress made - well done to everyone who has cleared a mess:T:T
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear
  • I totally agree about the cake. When it was my 40th it was a Sunday so I went to my Mum's for the weekend. There was no fuss made at all and no cake bought by anyone. Since then I have always bought my own cake that way I know I will get one. A birthday isn't a birthday without cake.

    Hi messies,

YL, happy belated birthday love! My mum and aunt are the only ones who make me feel special on my birthday, dad is the sort who expects a fuss made of him but can't see the point in making a fuss of anyone else! If I were you I would go out and buy something inexpensive but thoroughly unnecessary, just for you.

I have an appointment with my Dr for next week, and got the dreaded smear test out of the way yesterday (due since summer, so was important... managed to get in on a cancellation).

My washing machine has now decided to pack up and needs a new pump. Sigh. I just had the leaky pipe (left over from last summer's plumbing saga) in the loo fixed, and now this! Washing machine fixer man is coming tomorrow to fit the pump.

At least it had the decency to break down at half term, but it means that my longed-for week of complete rest and retreat is being eroded away. And I'm missing all that lovely drying sun!

Emm, my car is the same, and is filthy on the outside too :p

Sashanut, my garden is always getting away from me - especially last summer when it just rained and rained. Hope we have a better year this time, even a jungle is more fun in the sunshine

Love to all my fellow messies... thank you for being there and making me feel almost normal!

  • Hi Messies.
Stripped bed /washed/outside on line this am, with much help from OH. Stuff on line looks all wonky but it`ll do.
Then went to Lidl & farmshop, also with much help from OH.
He doesn`t normally `do` shopping, was like a dear fish out of water, but hasn`t grumbled. Not sure which of us is more pooped now!!
Sunny but cold here, want to `potter` outside but might have a rest first.
Re CAKE - not normally a cakey person but thinking about HM sponge pud (microwave) ....hmm, maybe!

    Hi everyone,

My plans to get the living area and bunny pen deep cleaned yesterday went out of the window when big grey bunny had to be rushed to the vet. Luckily they're an exotics vet so they take no chances with rabbits so they saw us even though they had no appointments. A large bill later we brought her home with some liquid food and other stuff. Thankfully she's loads better today. We took her in for a follow up first thing and she was growling and thumping at the vet which convinced them that she was indeed on the mend!

I was able to do a mini clean out of the pen but tried to be as discreet as possible! It was so sunny yesterday that all my laundry dried so I didn't have to have that hanging about inside. Same again today I hope.

So far today I've just had a primp in each room, cleaned and tidied the fridge and pantry, done the pantry inventory and I'm about to start the menu plan for March. Have a good afternoon everyone.
