My home is a mess

:j bathroom is finally clean :j
We've had a bit of a de-messying binge this weekend. Started with trying to turn the old lounge into a proper guest room / study. Which involved a bit of a sort out of the stuff stored in the attic as that was the only way to get the bed base and sewing table out. Which led to a bit of decluttering and a couple of trips to the tip this morning. And OH has now properly got the bit between his teeth so he's re-organised the furniture in the bedroom so that the radiator isn't buried and he's now unpacking some of his stuff from the downstairs store room. I'm afraid I have to do some work stuff so I'm leaving him to it. (Yes, this is me doing work stuff!) Credit to my boss, he actually asked if I would be able to spare some time over the weekend to look at something rather than just handing it off on Friday and expecting the answer Monday. Not sure what the reaction would have been if I'd said no though!
Mum is coming over for dinner later and bringing the last of the curtains for the new living room, so we can look properly moved in. I came onto MSE looking for inspiration for what to make for dessert but I'll probably end up doing rhubarb crumble - as usual :rotfl:0 -

Morning all
Feeling down this morning. Yesterday was my birthday. Money is short at the moment so I said I wasnt bothered about a pressie or going out BUT hubby seemed to take this to mean I wasnt bothered about my birthday at all.
So my birthday involved taking the kids to football, making lunch and clearing up, sorting out a mountain of washing, hoovering the mud off the utility room floor, making tea and clearing up then watching a bit of telly. I kind of waited all day for something nice to happen but it didnt. I dont think I so much as got a cup of tea made for me.
I was close to tears when I went to bed last night but if I had said anything it would have ended up as an argument and I just couldnt be bothered.
So as I say feeling pretty down today. Working this morning so need to get on. Might take the kids out later and I am meeting my brother tonight for a drink so looking forward to that.0 -
Morning Messies.
Bailey`s Babe - thanks, I`ll try that.
Sonastin, sounds like you`re really getting somewhere now, lovely!
YL - (((HUGS))) XX Your Birthday sounds really upsetting, no wonder you feel down! Similar thing happened to my best friend years ago, AND she spent the whole day apologising for being `unreasonable` for feeling down!!
There is a huge difference between `not expecting fuss or expense` and tolerating complete indifference. I think you were right not to say anything when you felt it`d turn into an argument, but when you`ve calmed down you could quietly point out (to entire household) that you would have appreciated some thoughfulness, however small.
Hope you enjoy your meet up with your brother. HAPPY UNBIRTHDAY!0 -
Car has gone for MOT this morning. I WAS going to try to clear it out a bit but didn`t feel up to it, am now sitting here trying not to have mental inventory of the carp on back seat and in footwells... empty cartons, brown paper bags & egg-trays, veg sacks for kindling sticks - I take all these back to farm shop for re-use, chuck them on back seats as soon as they`re empty so I don`t forget to take them back.
Also - various shopping bags, a snow-shovel, a half-full carrier bag (rubbish from car), pack of small juice cartons/ancient biscuits (`survival kit`) 2 unreliable umbrellas, a fold-up waterproof top & leggings set (not folded up), `spare` anorak of DGD`s, and a pair of binoculars. There must be other stuff too.... still, at least the boot is fairly clear. It has a sticky catch so I don`t use it much!
Yesterday I did at least manage to do Daftie-dogs toenails, though I still can`t comfortably access my own yet!
I`m going to have a gentle potter upstairs now, try a bit of putting away...0 -
What a shame no effort was made at home for your birthday YL. I wish you many happy returns anyway.
As the sun is out I've dumped all the bunny rugs and things outside for an airing. 'll get dH to help me give them a bit of a thwacking later. We're going to move the bunny pen out there too so I can get in and give everything a deep clean and get to the woodwork behind. We'll give the rest of the living area a dust and primp after that, it'll need it! Then that will be enough for today I think.
Nice to get some laundry outside for a change so I've changed the sheets too *yum* Hope everyone's day goes smoothly.0 -
Afternoon Messies.
YL, what a huge shame about your birthday! It's no wonder you feel upset. When there's a shortage of money, it's all the more important to make a birthday noticed. :bdaycake:for you, from all the Messies.
It's ok, Emms, the last time I checked, the MOT doesn't include the cleanliness or otherwise of inside or outside of the car.Which reminds me, must check when my car's due.
Ideal day for drying washing, but I didn't have enough in the WM to justify paddling across the grass to get the rotary drier out of the greenhouse.0 -
Happy Birthday YorkshireLass, I would be GUTTED if no one even got me a card

xxNevertheless she persisted.0 -

Thank you x Have had a chat with hubby and he genuinely thought that I didnt want any fuss! He asked me the other day if I wanted to go out and I said we couldnt afford it and I wasnt too bothered. He took this to mean I wasnt bothered about my birthday. To be fair I am not a big one on birthdays, I am the sort of person who would die of horror at a big surprise party BUT a little acknowledgement of my special day would have been nice. So we have cleared the air, even if I am left feeling a little like its my fault because I should have made it absolutely clear what I wanted!!!
As for the kids, younger son does feel bad now that my birthday was a non-event. DS1 bless him doesnt have the capability to really understand how anyone else feels about anything so no point in even trying there.
Emms, my car is often like that too. I am sure the garage will have seen worse! Ah well, the sun is shining so I am off out with the dog.0
