Afternoon Messies.
As others have said, YL, I'm glad you cleared the air with your OH, and I hope an alternative low key 'celebration' will happen for you soon.
Well done on getting the washing and shopping done, Emms, and well done, too, to Mr Emms, even if he didn't have much of a clue.Great stuff that your car passed the MOT.
Jps, sounds as if you're feeling a bit better with just the prospect of a GP's appointment. I think most GPs are sympathetic about the menopause now. What a great shame about your WM, especially when the weather's so good.
Sashanut, just enjoy your 'holiday' and peace while your DD is away. OH and I don't do birthday cake, but we do going out for dinner - one of the local pubs has a '2 for 1' offer on at the moment, because it's the low season for holidaymakers. Usually a good menu choice, too.
Well done, McC29, for getting rid of so many books. Yes, do be careful you don't get rid of something you'll regret later - as I did.
I had no idea, sonastin, that your house was so big! It's all the more admirable, for the amount of work you're having to do!
Alec e, I hope big grey bunny is well on the mend now.
It being Tuesday, have done the chauffering Mum to the hairdresser bit, and also had my hair trimmed - my fringe was driving me nuts. Sorted dried washing, and another WM load has just finished - sadly too late to hang out. also swept kitchen floor, and cleaned work surfaces and hob. Must start making cards this evening.0 -
Wrote a huge post on the train on my way home tonight which seems to have disappeared! Not a happy bunny
Sonastin- so many bathrooms! I have enough trouble with one so kudos to you for all your hard work.
McC29- so hard getting rid of books isn't it? They are like good friends that I can always rely in time and again to inform me or take me into another world...
Have a great evening everyone. Will try another post on the train tomorrow and fingers crossed it won't disappear into thin air xx0 -
Hi all:j
Popping in to repport on progress - well not much as have been out again this afternoon.......just for a couple of hours but did enjoy the sunshine & pottering round a different place, with no food shopping to do & no nagging from anyone so I can look at whatever I want, lovely.
However, the lack of housework doesn't half show up in the sunshine, yack. Tomorrow we won't be going anywhere as I have a friend visit in the afternoon. That ensures that I at least de-messy the front hall & the room she's going to be in.:D You can tell if she has to cancel as the room gets progressively worse until she can visit:rotfl:Also I should clear the back hall in case she needs to use the downstairs facilities - major job as the dogs sleep in there & the mess is quite horrible....mud, hair, white paintwork, yack yack..
Bearcub - yes we are enjoying the freedom sans DD, looks like she is having fun on her hols too so win-win atm. Enjoy the meal out with OH, great that you can take advantage of the offer during the low season.
Is it me or are kids not so independent these days? I know I was the exception but I left home very early & wouldn't have been seen dead with either of my parents during my teenage years:eek:
Better get to bed, lots of de-messying beckons and tomorrow is another day.....although if it's sunny again I might be persuaded to get into the garden again.....also want to clean carpets whilst DD away as her new carpet is sporting some choice stains  plus all out of chutney & chilli jam so the natives are revolting.....New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -
Morning everyone! Attempting another message from the train so have everything crossed!
Damp dusted the living room and study last night and wiped the study floor. Couldn't believe how much dust had accumulated there in just a week. Still a bit of paperwork in there (ok- a LOT) to be sorted out so that's planned for an hour in Sunday. Just looking at it makes me feel panicky but hope that getting a start on it will be a big help.
DH did the dishes last night and even remembered to clean the bath after himself (to be fair it's a rare occasion he doesn't but the night before was one of them!) so things ran pretty smoothly and I didn't have to scrub the bath out before running mine.
Emm- looks like you had a really productive day. Lucky you getting the washing out on the line. Wonky or not, the smell of washing dried in the fresh air is hard to beat.
Sashanut- love the sunshine but agree that it just shows up all the dust and the dirty windows like nothing else!
Have a great day everyone. I have a training day ahead so need my brain in gear this morning.0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Sashanut, I omitted a bit, in that OH and I are going out for the meal for my birthday, which is in a couple of weeks. Our DD2 was very independent from early in her teens, but happily went on holiday with us. She left home at 19 (to live in the pub in which she was working), before DD1. DD1 left home later, but moved completely out of the local area, to the 'seaside' - which eventually encouraged us to move here.
Sandyann, message received, thanks. I actually enjoy sorting paperwork, which is slightly odd for someone who's never worked in admin. I'm in the process of pulling together a new church directory, too, as members have moved on, and new people arrived, so details are out of date.
Was going to do some gardening today but, although it's dry, it's very grey and cold, so enthusiasm has gone completely. I have started sorting washing, and also started a card.0 -
Cleaning the washing machine at the moment. Soda crystals and vinegar treatment which will hopefully improve it's performance!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

Hi all:j
Popping in to report on progress - find it does help to keep me on track!! Didn't do as much yesterday as I hoped, cleared room & front hall for friends' visit but didn't get to disgusting back hall - and yes, friend needed to use the facilities so my messiness was exposed:eek:. Did manage to shut kitchen door but had to remove a bag of parsnips (!!!!) from dowstairs loo before she could use it:rotfl:
As she has dogs & horses of her own I doubt she was bothered, but I was a bit embarassed to say the least. I would have done it too, but had yet another phone call re my Dads benefits from Age Concern so that took up the time I should have had to clear it.....still it was useful.
We were supposed to be off out today on a 'holiday' day but I have to be back for 5pm so we decided to go tomorrow instead & will pop out this afternoon for a couple of hours rather than a long journey with the unpredictable traffic making the trip back dodgy for the appointment.
So I am going to the farm shop to get some eggs & a few bits, then hopefully into DDs room of doom to vac then wash the carpet.....wish me luck I may be some time:eek::eek::eek:
Dull & cold today, yack but at least it doesn't show the dust up so much, what with the dogs & an open fire it gets pretty dusty. Also the windows are filthy, we don't have a window cleaner so it's yours truly. Although we will have to get someone to do the upstairs ones, it is so high I don't think I'd cope as I am not great with heights:(New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -
The refit of the house next door is in full swing and the banging is already driving me nuts. The owner's daughter tells us it's going to take 6 weeks. I will have gone bonkers by that time! So I've planned lots of short trips out making sure none of them clash with their frequent breaks!
Last night I tidied up some of the mess that has been left due to grey bun being ill. This morning I have made an appointment to get my hair cut next week, been to the shop for some porridge, done the washing up and put it away, cleaned the sink and dish drainer. Put dry laundry away and put a load on, dusted and cleaned everything in the living area and had a one round everywhere else.
Have a good day all.0 -
Morning Messies.
No de-messying done yesterday, just felt really pooped all day. Inertia prevails today, so far...0 -
Just to clarify - we only have a very teeny tiny bathroom at the moment. Main bathroom is currently the downstairs storeroom. The bath is in there but currently filled with all manner stuff - spare bedding, OH's surround sound speakers, a sewing machine! Spare washing machine is in there (OH's) and tumbly drier too. That will get turned into a bathroom later this year and I can actually have a bath again. Usually have showers every day anyway but once in while I love a long soak and its been a couple of years now! The 2 en-suites will be in the two bedrooms that are going into the loft conversion which is at least another couple of years away. Did I mention that OH has decided we need to put an extension on the front of the bedroom first ?!
We have absolutely no need for such a large house other than it gives us room to house the furniture from both of our previous houses. But working on it keeps OH busy and he's "earning" way more in the value he's adding to the house than he'd earn if he was in paid employment. When I've saved enough to be able to retire (currently mid-30s - is it wrong that I'm planning retirement!), we'll sell up and move back to Hampshire and this will be our retirement fund.
Alec - glad the bunny is on the mend. From what my brother tells me, vets can be a bit hit-and-miss but it sounds like you've got a good one
rainy-days - let me know how the WM cleaning goes. I keep meaning to try the soda crystals and vinegar treatment but I'm not sure its what my machine needs. It would help if OH didn't close the door every time he emptied it  Every time I point out that he shouldn't, or that he's left nails, screws, etc in his pocket, I get a cheeky grin and a reminder that we currently have 2 spare machines (his and one he inherited) so it doesn't matter if he breaks it. Kinda difficult to answer that one!
sandyann - must be something in the water. OH emptied and re-filled the DW last night for once. I usually empty it over breakfast and he sometimes remembers to put stuff in but I left at 5:30am for a meeting so left it. I arrived home at 5pm to him apologising that he'd not gotten round to it yet which was a miracle in itself. I went out later to meet friends at the pub (he didn't want to come) and when I got home, he was just finishing off re-loading it. He tried to claim that he'd spent the whole of the 2 hours I'd been out working on it - helped by the fact that he was struggling to find anywhere where the pyrex bowl would fit as I walked through the door. He stuck it in the oven in order to declare he was finished :rotfl:
bearcub - far too cold to be playing out. Definitely a day to be looking out the window admiring how nice it is when its not raining, not actually going out in it0
